Monaco Superpro CO (Ebony Board)

1c9601a6-0be8-4ea0-9c3d-7fc4abfd1e0b.hei

Absolutely beautiful, but also absolutely no objective information on the guitar. What does it weigh? What are the neck dimensions? [/minirant]

But here's the "Startling Revelation" I noted in the title. Check this out:

Estimated Used Value between $800 and $1,325? I realize that's completely absurd, but how does this affect potential buyers when they see this juxtaposed the asking price of $3,199 (which I think is pretty reasonable)? I haven't noticed this before, but are all Hamers listed given Estimated Values based on 2010 used market prices?

I also noticed that Reverb has silly low estimates for Hamers. IMHO this is because in their price history they don't distinguish between Asian and USA models.

Makes perfect sense on the result (and of course, absurd sense on the methodology).

Has anyone here ever bought or sold a used SuperPro for $1300?
That's a ridiculous price.

Made in Asia Hamer Monacos are currently listed for around $500, sale prices are even lower, if you average with US made ones you will get $1300.

There are no Asian SuperPros.

I don't think Reverb classification is that detailed, it stops at Monaco.

That's why it's fucking nonsense.

Monaco, Monaco Elite, Monaco SuperPro and Monaco III are all different models.  Especially the Elite which is a different shape and fret scale.

When Reverb became Etsyverb it became a window shopping only site for me.

OTOH That would seem like a fair price for the Monaco Superpro. It's a pretty guitar and I'd guess, somewhat better than a 3.5K gibby.

There are 3 current active listings for Monaco Super Pro for under $3K on Reverb, cheaper than this one by $250-300.

I know. Does not change my opinion of the value of the guitar we are discussing.

edit: I should probably note that I don't consider Value and Sold Price the same things.

There's also a very nice Monaco Super Pro for $250 more.

Just FYI This is because Atomic lists items for the benefit of local buyers. They don't want to sell this on Reverb. They want someone to come in and try it and evaluate it in the store.

I bought my SP used for a C note more than the price in ? . Of course, that was almost 2 decades ago... 😀

Same here. I paid a grand for mine, but that was c.2005 and it was a steal at the time.

If not for that first fret crown, I’d be swinging by Atomic tomorrow to check that out!  😂

Was just thinking, the CO ebony board would turn alot of folks here on, for sure, but that 1st fret victory might turn more off!

I traded quite a bit of gear to Atomic recently. And they were fair.   I supposedly call it “downsizing”.   They have a white 80s Chaparral I traded and they’re asking $500 more than I paid for it.  However, they will deal with you.

Personally, the ebony board is my preference…just with one less inlay!

This is very true.  Those guys are the best.  I’ve done some great trades there over the years (bought plenty of things outright too), but they’re very fair and it’s amazing how many guitars they move through there!

I never found that inlay to be a thing. I just hardly don't even register that it's there.

I have had three. Once upon a time, you could find one for around half that asking price, maybe even a bit less. That was then.....

FWIW, the one I got here and kept is probably my favorite Hamer ever, out of several dozen, most of them long gone. I thought I was overpaying all those many years ago ($2500, inc an OD pedal). I was wrong.

Of course it WAS a custom order, with korina, 2 bound f holes and upgraded (Lollar) pickups. Crowns rather than the split inlays.

Def NOT for sale!

I bought this spruce top, trans-orange sparkle finish, ebony board SuperPro from Bubs (Buy from Bubs!) back in '09.

$1300.

From this angle, the first fret victory inlay is barely noticeable.
