BCR Greg Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 This guitar would be one of them. Impossibly gorgeous custom BC Rich Bich Archtop that is hand made to Hamer quality standards.... Mahogany neckthru, full binding, quilt top and head, Duncans, Grover Imperials, ebony board, clouds, all the shizz on a feather weight demon that plays itself. SICK. SICK. SICK.
cmatthes Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Serial's vocalist/R.guitarist needs to look into that one...
jwhitcomb3 Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Very pretty! The Bich and Mockingbird shapes have always appealed to me.-Jonathan
DavidE Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 I had a USA Bich from the 80's. What a wonderful feeling guitar and shockingly feather light. The only issue with it was that it sounded like crap. It had the full electronics package with dual preamps etc.... Still, I wish I kept it. The archtop is awesomely over the top and more straight forward electronically. Should sound killer!
peedenmark7 Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 aaahhhh the bich... to hate one is to have never played one.I love mine!!greg you could do some lobbying for the hamer guys to stretch their legs a bit and take on custom shaped bodies again.UPCHARGES!
kizanski Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 aaahhhh the bich... to hate one is to have never played one.I love mine!! greg you could do some lobbying for the hamer guys to stretch their legs a bit and take on custom shaped bodies again. UPCHARGES! Funny - I always felt the opposite. I couldn't wait to get mine, and then once I did, continued to wonder why. Too much brass, maple, knobs, switches and preamps (obviously, the new incarnation is a different animal). Notice the red pump inserted for contrast and as a subtle message to the owner of said shoe. She was one with a Capital "B".
peedenmark7 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 kiz, really ? well ...I will agree that you virutually need a pilots manual to fly/operate all those damn switches... overkill in my opinion...and when they go t!ts up,get out your multi-meter for hours of fun. brass is king and was extremely hip late '70s early '80s... I'll take a brass tremmed , single hum charvel strathead strat over everything... come to think of it... brass on any guitar works for me... who owns rich now? rico jrs gone correct ? havent bought a rich in ......ummmm 18 yrs. love what I have.
peedenmark7 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 going the route of blasphemy here being a jackson guy, but it is amazing how much grover borrowed/tole from bernie sr. with respect to the whole string/neckthrough designs...so joined at the hip yet so different.
LordOfTheThighs Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 Killer!I must say that I've got a bad lusting for a BC Rich. Preferablya Mockingbird, but I wouldn't "Bich" about owning that one either.Beautiful example of a BC Rich, Unca Greg.I remember as a kid having a mail order catalog, that carried Hamersand BC Richs. I used to just sit and drool over them all day long.
peedenmark7 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 an archtop lends itself well to the bich body style... not for everyone though...by all means find one that works for ya,I have one bich... one eagle... the rest , short horn birds.to me those define bc rich !
peedenmark7 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I've been noticing.... I am not the only one home for the weekend ...I have a place in the northern part of wisc. ...just dont feel like driving 4 hours north...what gives why are you guys home ???!!!
BCR Greg Posted May 28, 2006 Author Posted May 28, 2006 I wanted this one to avoid the typical BC Rich shortcomings. NO KAHLER(David E, that Kahler flyer killed your guitar!), NO BATTERIES, and NO FUCKING BRASS!!!!!I wanted elegance and tone. It's there. This guitar is up for adoption. New with warranty, we just plugged it in for a couple of minutes until my wife saw the look on my face and told me I could not keep it. (Unless something else from the vault goes....)
BCR Greg Posted May 28, 2006 Author Posted May 28, 2006 aaahhhh the bich... to hate one is to have never played one.I love mine!!greg you could do some lobbying for the hamer guys to stretch their legs a bit and take on custom shaped bodies again.UPCHARGES! Nope. This guitar is as good as a Hamer. No need to get the boys in CT to make these. They do a fantastic job doing what they do.
Lockbody Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I've been noticing.... I am not the only one home for the weekend ...what gives why are you guys home ???!!! What a beautiful, beautiful guitar. BC Rich guitars just scream "Rock 'N' Roll!!! like no other.I have a nineteen month old. We're always home thesedays.
LordOfTheThighs Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 The first time I remember seeing a Bich being played, was when Aerosmith played at the California Jam '78. Joe Perry was playing his red Bich, with Bill Lawrence pickups in it. On Saturday evenings during the summer of '78, they'd show 3 or 4 performers from the concert. Joe Perry jamming to Toys In The Attic on his Bich made a big impression on me. I don't think I've been right since.
BCR Greg Posted May 28, 2006 Author Posted May 28, 2006 Yup.He has number 14. Nitebob just told me that he has number 15. Damn.
Moose Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 what gives why are you guys home ???!!!Two reasons. First, I live in a paradise. Why the hell leave when I can be at a beautiful beach watching gorgeous girls in 5 minutes?Second, I'll be travelling 15 days in June, anyway. Too much travel makes Moose a grouchy boy. I stayed home and went to a jam with some friends. Great way to kick off a holiday weekend!
peedenmark7 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 greg, I didnt mean for hamer to copy a rich. just to take on customer inspired odd shaped bodies. you could always hide that guitar somewhere couldnt you ?
BTMN Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 Always loved Joe's Red Bich he was on Sept.'79 Guitar Player with. Same one mentioned above. I own a Mockingbird because of him initially but mostly cause the 'bird is so nice. Edited to add: Here is a shot from BC Rich's site. They use to have a page about the redo but I couldn't find it.
David B Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 That is cool.My favorite BC Rich shape is the Wave. I used to have one of those, but it was a BC Rico. I also had a BC Rich Explorer, YES Explorer.
BCR Greg Posted May 30, 2006 Author Posted May 30, 2006 I've only seen two or three BCRich Explorers. Cool stuff.
