cmatthes Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Pics do NOT do that guitar justice. Playing is believing!
belgian Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Classy, I am glad I live to far to come to see it in person !
BCR Greg Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Somewhere around here I have a pic of that top in the raw from when Eric grabbed it. Awesome BEFORE being used on the guitar. SICK BEYOND BELIEF on that guitar.
peedenmark7 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I'm not a quilt fan , but even from the pics.. its obvious a top notch top.!!may have to scratch that itch !!!
Guest pirateflynn Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Looks to have a beautiful fingerboard, too!
gregc Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I'm no fan of quilt; but I do want one of those guitars! They'd still build one, right?gregc
elduave Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 I'm no fan of quilt; but I do want one of those guitars! They'd still build one, right?gregc Pretty sure they would, but it's going to be alot more bubbas.
bruce919 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hwo this is the top on that one. Is it a thin overlay like on the old Sunburst or the thicker 3/8" thick top like on the Specail FM?
elduave Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 Reserve met. Thanks for the bids folks. The winner will be butt-psy-sed when this one arrives!
elduave Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 Hwo this is the top on that one. Is it a thin overlay like on the old Sunburst or the thicker 3/8" thick top like on the Specail FM? Does anyone know? I'll ask Jol in the meantime...
bruce919 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I was the one that pushed up to reserve. If I had know that all you wanted for it I would have e-mailed you last week.Damn.
silentman Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 These were made with thicker maple tops, I believe.
elduave Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 I was the one that pushed up to reserve. If I had know that all you wanted for it I would have e-mailed you last week.Damn. Again, thanks. Reserve's not all I want for it though and I wouldn't have sold it for that outright. I thought the tag price of $1919 was more than fair and that's what I'd like to get. However, things being what they are, and Ebay being what it is, nothing ventured nothing gained. May the one who wants it most win! If I played that body style I'd have kept the damn thing.
serial Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Yup milled top, NOS Dimarzio double creams wound to the old Hamer specs, gold NOS sustain block bridges...SICK. The very good kind of sick.
ericb Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hwo this is the top on that one. Is it a thin overlay like on the old Sunburst or the thicker 3/8" thick top like on the Specail FM? Does anyone know? I'll ask Jol in the meantime... The top is thin like the original Sunbursts (though maybe 1mm thicker)...not like the Special FM at all. I think I put all the details of the guitar in the other thread. Whoever gets it will be quite pleased. Pretty light as well.
BCR Greg Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Eric doesn't know how to abuse a guitar, he's so polite. His stuff is always clean.
serial Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I could be wrong, but it was my recollection that the tops (although much thinner than a Special FM) were more like the new Standards and milled down, hence the two-piece top (as opposed to the old Sunbursts and Specials, which had single piece sheet veneer tops). That's been many years since the SB77s came out!
ericb Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hey Greg and Steve...hope all is well. You're right about the process, but not the thickness. The sb77 is very close (as I said, within ~1mm) to my 79 Sunburst. I obviously don't have the one on ebay in my posession anymore, but here's a picture of another sb77 I have which shows the cap thickness.
