Steve Haynie Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I'd like to have Supertramp's live in Paris album.
Guest pirateflynn Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Go to the EPA Website...There's apparently a severe penalty for dropping Supertramp music in any format randomly in the great outdoors. For disposal, the site provides a link to Department of Homeland Security. I'm rollin'!!
kizanski Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Gotta stick up for "Crime of the Century." Great album. The "crime of the century" is that the album was ever recorded in the first place.Horrible band. The worst noise ever made by anyone since Jim Carry in "Dumb and Dumber."
Eric Weston Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I buy guitars to gig with ...that's what they're for. I'm bummed that I've dinged up the soft spruce on my Duotone. I'm bummed that my forearm has worn through the finish on my Studio. I'm bummed that my Centaura is a true Hamer relic.... NOT!!!!! but that's just me, I ain't purty neither
elduave Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 IMO, best thing that happens with a new guitar is when it's dinged, dented or scratched. It actually encourages more recklessness, thus making you more fun (or funny) to watch whilst gigging. Now if you collect w/o gigging, I suppose you wanna keep 'em as spotless as possible.
ZR Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Do I like Supertramp? Bloody well right!I thought the production on their albums was excellent as well.
elduave Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I know Jellyfish digs Supertramp so I gotta give 'em props right there. But then again, I like to hear Nick Gilder sing Hot Child In The City every now and then too.
SirDouglas Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I do understand the idea that some guitars have gotten to the point of being a player, but Hamers have that broken in feel that makes them feel almost the same. The stigma of not wanting to scratch a new guitar should not be a factor in playing, but sometimes it is. i agree with this whole-heartedly.... if yer scared to scratch the guitar dont buy it... horders are making it extrememly difficult for me to get any of the old good guitars i used to play like the Gibson RD or The Paul... or any Rickenbacker 4001 now... since Rickenbacker cant keep up with demand anymore the prices for old ones have skyrocketed..... i also agree taht Hamers tend to need the break in period.... my 8 string i hated it at first....the binding scratched the hell out of me... had to put new strings on it... the pickup wasnt where i wanted it.... but now i love it... what did i do you ask... i put a thumb rest on it....this is now my main til i get my purple 12 back from a headstock incident always enjoy the guitars.... if your jsut going to let it sit in a closet let someone else that will play it use it... that means sell it... you cant take it with you someone might as well enjoy since your not.... but again thats my opinion and it doesnt count...
ZR Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Damn, I'll say it...I like Hot Child in the City too!!! I had a '92 Sunburst Archtop Tremelo in what was close to the Slash look sunburst. I thought, man, with the Floyd that will be my dream guitar. It was a nice player and in perfect shape BUT I never really bonded with it. Then I kept it around because it was like artwork on the wall - simply beautiful! In the end, I just didn't feel right about it so I sold it to Rocket Syntist (wherever he went to??). If you're still lurking around here drop me a line. Anyway, I don't deliberatly try to mess my guitars up but some honest bumps and dings are ok with me. That's mainly why I like buying used anyway. That, and I'm too cheap to buy brand new!!
cmatthes Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Elduave has been known to crash cymbals (and my basses ) with his shiny new guitars. His Zandard has been, uh, "relic'ed"...
elduave Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Elduave has been known to crash cymbals (and my basses ) with his shiny new guitars. And still no kick in the balls. His Zandard has been, uh, "relic'ed"... Let's be clear on who relic'ed it.
Rockola Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I, didn't I see you crying?
cmatthes Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 And still no kick in the balls. That's why I wear my basses where I do!His Zandard has been, uh, "relic'ed"...Let's be clear on who relic'ed it. (hence the wink)
elduave Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 His Zandard has been, uh, "relic'ed"...Let's be clear on who relic'ed it. (hence the wink) You liberated that guitar. I love you for that. I think I'll go play it some.
Michael_ Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I just got this today. It's the first 'pretty' guitar I've had. It sounds amazing, but I'd be kind of nervous about putting it on stage. I might not be able to forgive a band member for whacking a bass into the top or something. Basically the Special and the Centaura remain the workhorses of the live rig. My other three are all really clean, and it makes me nervous live. Nervousness doesn't positively effect my stage presence.
Ethan Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 i agree with this whole-heartedly.... if yer scared to scratch the guitar dont buy it... horders are making it extrememly difficult for me to get any of the old good guitars i used to play like the Gibson RD or The Paul... or any Rickenbacker 4001 now... since Rickenbacker cant keep up with demand anymore the prices for old ones have skyrocketed..... Man I really have been wanting a Gibson RD for some reason for the past 8 months...maybe its all that Third Eye Blind and Foo Fighters I listened to when I was younger...
Brooks Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 That's mainly why I like buying used anyway. That, and I'm too cheap to buy brand new!! +1. i did feel nervous the 1 gig i did w/ a minty newport (on the left, now resides w/ mr fuzzy); that thing was brand new looking, and really gave me the vibe of an expensive piece of art. same w/ bobbymacks artist custom (middle of photo), beautiful. ps- this normal guitar geek thread has developed nicely w/ some funny shit. i love you guys!

kizanski Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 elduave makes a good point: You can feel mentally constrained if you are worried about scratching your guitar, and that will hamper your playing.I don't get up on stage that often, but I have noticed a difference when I'm playing a "player" vs. a guitar that still smells new. At el's gathering a couple of weeks ago, I spent a good part of the evening worried about my black Standard.Anyone with a new black guitar (or car) knows what a pain in the ass it is to keep clean, and even the act of cleaning it, in a some small way, kinda messes it up. The point that kept popping up in my head was that, the next scratch or ding that the guitar received would be its first, but I really wanted anyone interested in playing it to feel free to do so, so I just resigned myself to the fact that it WOULD happen eventually. So why not tonight?Once I "let it go" I didn't have a problem bringing that large guitar up on that tiny stage. (I don't move around much, but Dave gets around). It wasn't totally without premeditation, though. For the first song that I performed with Chris and Dave (the Cult's "Wild Flower"), I used my '72 Tele: a guitar that I have absolutely no fear of dinging, scratching, or damaging. At the end of the song, during the last chord which sustains to fade out, Dave walked over to me and very purposely banged his fretboard into mine, which made me crack up. It was a very Scorpions moment which I was not expecting, but still very funny. But that was the Tele....By the end of the evening, I had let go of the fear of dinging the black Standard, but at the end of the song in which I used THAT one, I was almost back in my seat. I hope el wasn't looking for the Jabs to his Schenker, because I was gonnne...
sirDaniel Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I spent 45 hours with MC in a vehicle and believe every word of what he says.

I made sure to merely give you a "love tap" on the board. It's a sign of affection and affirmation. Kind of like a "high five". After reading this thread though I feel like I'm a bad guy, fucking up peoples guitars, and should be beaten. Screw it, I'm going on vacation. Millville, NJ, Sea Isle City, NJ, Block Island, RI & mainland RI. Someone please mind the store.
cmatthes Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Hope I didn't give anybody THAT impression! I've never had a problem with "axe contact" w/EL, as it's always been in good fun and we know each other's boundaries . It's all part of the playing experience, and the more fun you have, the more likely you are to see a chip or ding here or there, but the blast you're having while you play makes it all worthwhile. Enjoy your trip, pal! (I'll be sure to mention my 90% discount when I check on the store while you're away - ESPECIALLY if that Monaco bass comes in - ha ha ha!!)
