The " I have a cyst on my wrist" sale!

Yep, after a few months of waiting for this thing to go away (it is a "Bible cyst"), my doctor is telling me I could deal with it in one of 3 ways.. , but I'm really not looking forward to smashing my wrist with a heavy book anytime soon..I have to type at work a lot so I'm going to lay off the playing for the summer and see if that helps. Other wise my choices are aspiration which is really a 50/50 thing. It has been known to come back in a short period of time. The other thing would be to have surgery to remove it.

I know I'll kick myself later about it, but I'm just not playing enough to justify keeping especially with this damn thing..

Anyways I'm going to sell a few things I haven't really played with in a while. I've been sticking to the acoustic more so in the last 6 months, so here goes.. Money Orders or checks will be fine, I don't use Paypal soooo..Sorry!

1) Zoom Powerdrive PD-01- Said to be the poor man's Klon Centaur, it works great as a clean boost. Adds a thickness that sounds awesome with Fender single coils. Minty with the only issue being some jerkoff at the store stuck a price tag right on the face..no problem with some Goo Gone.

50.00 with box

2) Yamaha DG Stomp-Most excellent condition. I only used it at practices so it's never been ridden hard. 100.00 With Power supply and several manuals and original box.

3) Ernie Ball Volume Pedal Jr. No box, but in feckin' mint condition. 50.00

Hit me up at copper_blue91@yahoo.com if you are interested..

Thanks!

A ganglion cyst, I assume? My wife had one on her wrist. (not from

wrist actioning me either :) ) She had it aspirated, but it came back in a

couple of months. She had it surgically removed, and has been wrist cyst

free ever since.

Good Luck!

About 20 years ago I had one on my wrist. I was in the Army at the time, so I went to the medical clinic on the base.

The doc had me sit in a chair they usually use when you give blood as it supports the arm. While he was examing the cyst he looked out the window and said "wow look at that"....when I looked out the window, he whacked my wrist with a book.

The cyst popped and never came back.

Ahhhhhh Army medicine. They pretty much fixed every ailment by whacking us with books in the good old days. :)

You should try it.

I doubt your cyst has much to do with guitar playing. If you don't want to whack it with a book you might dry deep massaging several times a day, you might weaken the wall of the cyst enough to break it. The cysts are rarely deep and the surgery is pretty straight forward. I'd be a little more agressive about it if I was you. Seems like you're giving up on your playing pretty easily !

Had one a few years ago. The doctor crunched it and that was that.

It's not that I'm giving up on playing, I'm just really trying to avoid having to have my wrist opened up. Since I type a lot for my job I just started 2 months ago, I cannot afford to take timeoff at this point.

but thanks for the advice everyone..

Glenn, I sent you an email back..

I have one too, and have for many years. It does occaisionaly act up (once a year), but hitting it against dry wall provides almost instant relief. It hurts a bit for about 2 seconds, then am good for another year+.

I would STRONGLY advise against violent solutions, like whacking against dry wall, or the book method.

The main reason being that if the walls of the cyst DON'T break (or even if it does), then everything around it gets the full force, and can cause MUCH worse damage- likely permanent. Also, without anything to assist reapsorption of the material that comprises the cyst, your actually just spreading it out and encouraging it to return stronger.

Most problems with cysts and RSI can be rectified or avoided with small ergonomic adjustments, at work and more importantly playing- though guitarists (especially the self-taught) are typically unwilling or unable to make the adjustments.

I went through the exact same thing- with NO insurance- and I REALLY advocate aspiration and a shot of cortizone. It might have to be repeated (I assume you have health coverage), but the only thing you risk is a little time- NOT DAMAGE to your hands.

I had a ganglion cyst on my left hand at the ring finger... it just disappeared while opening a screw top beer.

For ME (23+ years), it has worked. YMMV. Do what you think is right.

For me, however, if anything, the cyst has returned -Weaker- every time, with a marked decrease in occurance. The force involved is not nearly as much as football or any other contact sport and won't cause any permanent (or done right, temporary) damage.

Most problems with cysts and RSI can be rectified or avoided with small ergonomic adjustments, at work and more importantly playing- though guitarists (especially the self-taught) are typically unwilling or unable to make the adjustments.

Mine (as with a number of others) was caused by an injury, and no myriad of ergonomic adjustments would have done a darn thing. Going from not being able to move my wrist a millimeter without extreme pain, to having absolutely no pain inside of 10 seconds was a minor miracle.

So, DIY guitarists are stubborn nitwits? You might have a point there.

Now, ONTO THE SALE.

I've had one on my wrist several times an to this day still have a gigantic one on my head. I had the one on the wrist drained by a doctor after we both tried unsucessfully to break it. He explained to me that it's was probably caused by hitting something. The Cyst is the bodies way of protecting the injured area, and sometimes the body continues to make one in the same spot several times just because it doesn't know any better. Have the thing drained on a Friday, there is no way it should affect you on Saturday, let alone Monday. JMHO.

Good Luck with the sale!

I really really don't mean any disrespect whatsoever to anyone, certainly not you.

I meant only to try to avoid injury, and to share my common experiences.

I hope your items sell quickly and your transactions go smoothly.

I just keep thinking of that Hall & Oates song, "Cyst on My Wrist":

Because your cyst (your cyst)

Is on my wrist

Because your cyst (your cyst)

I can't resist

Your cyst is on my wrist...

I'm sure you all remember that one.
