mc2 Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 I just want some picks with words on both sides. I want the feel and shape of the typical Fender picks. Where to go???Thanks!D'Andrea....They OEM a lot of the major brands' picks and artists/band picks. I used to design their ads for them. Great people to work with.http://www.dandreapicks.com/http://www.dandreapicks.com/imprint.htm

Camstone Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 David,I just received 400 picks printed on both sides three days after I went on their website and used a great design wizard to create what I wanted. Great experience!www.steveclayton.comHave fun!Cam
tomteriffic Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Just to stick in an alternative. This guy has given me good service at reasonable prices over several years. As long as you need fender-style picks (and not Tortex or whatever) his prices are very competitive and his service is very personalized.Legend Picks
tombo Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Here's a cool place. Lots of rock star types use them (for whatever that's worth). I got some samples from them and was very impressed. As others have said above, Clayton is great too.http://www.intunegp.com/
MCChris Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 I'm thinking this messaging would be perfect for you:

seeker Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Haven't used their design/delivery services, but Clayton Acetal's (1.26) both sound and play great. Of course, ymmv.
Cary Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Legend Picks. Known the guy personally for over 20 years (my brother in law and sister are in a bunch of the pictures on his website). He does great work.
cmatthes Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I have ordered twice from Greg Collins at Legend in the last 10 years. Great work, fair prices, and closest thing out there to a 70s/80s Fender 351 pick. The material is closer to what Fender used then, moreso than what they use now. Highly recommend checking 'em out.Legend Picks are right here...I have also had great results with Steve at Pickworld in Wilmington, DE. They have a TON more color, material and imprint color options than Legend, and are just a little more expensive per order. They DO make Tortex style and you can mix/match colors and gauges in your order.Pickworld - click hereLook for some HFC'ers' picks here...

serial Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 +1 on Legend picks. I'm getting ready to do another order now. The designs don't rub off like they do on other picks I've seen.
DavidE Posted July 16, 2007 Author Posted July 16, 2007 Thanks all. I'll take a look at a few.Funny that nobody mentioned the place I bought custom picks several years ago, D&D I think.
cmatthes Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I bought picks from D&D back in '95 or so. I wasn't impressed with the quality at all, and the options were really limited, but of course that was a long time ago. The Legend stuff is, well...the stuff of Legends!

The designs don't rub off like they do on other picks I've seen.I know some folks mentioned Steve Clayton, but when I ordered custom picks with my band's logo earlier this year, I experienced this issue with the design rubbing off after a couple of gigs.

I have picks from Legend that are four years old that aren't the slightest bit rubbed off-the picks wear out before the image does, but they're also the high quality stuff. I've had some that were the yellow Fender-style mediums from another maker (don't recall which one) and they left the guitars covered in powdered yellow dust. Legend is top notch IMHO.

And no, I don't use lotion nor have soft hands. LOL.

cmatthes Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I never did any custom ordering from Clayton, but I noticed the same thing about the commercially available Clayton picks - the print rubs right off. I had them do a mock up for me a few years ago, but they didn't get the detail I got from Legend. Not saying that they're bad, because they have a lot of options available and all that, I just found Legend to be cheaper and overall better quality.
seeker Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 If you want words/single color, and the pic material/thickness is what you like, Legends appear to be a great bargain.
cmatthes Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I don't think Legend charges extra for graphic plates v. straight text, do they? I think all the costs were included last time I ordered (that was a few years ago, admittedly!). Most places run $25-$35 per side for a plate/die charge.
