A 97' MAHOGANY STD. FOR $1600

Considering the price of a new one and, since there'll be a price increase in a couple of weeks, considering that it would be a custom order and take months to arrive, etc., that might not be that far out of line. Mahogany Standards are not particularly easy to find, since there weren't that many made to begin with. Of course, they likely never cost $1600 new either, particularly back in '97. The korina ones from '95 listed for less than that. Unfortunately, those days are past us now I believe.

O.k that's "starting" to make me "maybe" reconsider selling my one piece 96'.... I never thought it would bring that kind of money... curious to see what it closes at.

The 1995 korina Standards were something like $1795 list. The mahogany Standards were $1595 around the time they came out.

serial is correct that getting a new mahogany Standard today will likely be more than $1600.

IIRC, the korina ones were $1495 LIST. I distinctly remember that they were stupid cheap. They were VERY much underpriced and sold quickly as a result. I remember one that hung on a shop wall for months in MD only because the owner (Garrett Park if I recall) refused to discount it from list because the price was so low. He sold it at that price apparently. The Vectors, just two years later, were much pricier.

$1675.00.. Anybody from here get it?

It's a record price, either way.

It was only a few months ago that you couldn't sell one for $1000 (even though they're some of the baddest Standards that Hamer ever made).

I'd sell my 97 for $1600. Although, it is a wicked playing/sounding guitar......

Yeah ebay is not the best indicator for real values, lots of anomalies. But it is becoming more of a benchmark unfortunately. Used gear is pretty dried up in retail so you amost have to look there as a buyer. What does that do to the value of a standard custom? >$1800? More depending on options?

Hell I should have kept my 3 97's.

well, i, for one, am glad you didn't! ;)

mark/racer x knows how cool the guitar i got from you is.

As the list prices increase, there is eventually some impact on the used market. Not sure what list is now on a mahogany Standard, but the last I recall was that Standard Customs were in the $3500-3600 range, korinas a bit more. I can't/won't sell my yellow '97, since I got that one for my daughter, but it's a very cool guitar. Even if I could, I don't know that $1600 would even begin to tempt me.

that one is in another league

tom dumont plays in that league

Observant indeed! The paint from mine was left over from Tom's mahogany Vector. I saw his in the drying racks at the factory and promptly shipped mine up for a refin (it was originally black).

I passed on a Mahogany Standard off Craigslist less than a couple years ago for $1,100. I thought that was too high back then. Hamer prices are all over the place. Newer SCs going for a $1K? Older Specials going for 1K+?

I think that this is a direct result of this site hoarding all of the hamers and we are starving the public of good guitars....HAHA. Frankly the 1,400 bid was high but if your planning on not flipping it for years to come then you will come out alright. 1,600 is nut's...

I was about to write a post about how the prices of Hamers are going up and that we should all be hanging onto our guitars... Then a couple hours ago I watched a USA Hamer Eclipse sell for $450 on Ebay.

All that the $1600 Mahogany Standard means is that someone with deep pockets wanted the guitar. They payed a premium for what is probably a very nice guitar.

With a week to go until Christmas I find myself paying a premium for a lot of gift items. Perhaps this Hamer Standard was just such a case. ;)
