tralfax19645 Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Hi, Does anyone know how to play the last lick(correctly) of the guitar solo in Rock around the clock (Bill Haley and the Comets)? What are some other licks that give you fits, that maybe shouldnt. Rob
Guest JackButler Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Hey, I found a pretty cool and correct tab for the whole thing here at powertab...did a site search and it came up on the powertab archive site. Got a 5 star review for accuracy..so it should be pretty dead on. http://www.powertabs.net/pta.php?page=song,9528The new version of powertab is windowsxp friendly too, so if you don't already have the software..can't remember who all I've shot this out to. Its free and you can always afford free! LOL http://www.power-tab.net/Hope this helps!
Guest JackButler Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Oh and to answer your question...there are some lick in Vai's Tender Surrender that still don't flow right for me after 2-3 years of doing them...can't get them in time smootly b/c they're fingerings and positions that I just don't do normally in my trick bag of stock licks.
HamerHokie Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 One lick that confounds me - Dazed and Confused live version. Page plays an ascending lick going into his solo that I can't figure out exactly. I think he started doing it around '72. I just can't get the feel right.
Brewmaster Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 If you have ever copied any of Brian Setzer licks you will notice a few of his signiture licks are in this solo. I have more trouble with double stop pull offs such as the one used in Blue Oyster Cults "Burning for you".
MCChris Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 most of 'em! I was gonna say ... pretty much anything I didn't come up with myself!
tbabinec Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Ain't it the truth. How about: 21 years young Eric Clapton is dazzling on the “Beano” Bluesbreaker album. On Freddy King’s Hideaway, he and the band set an impossible tempo, and Eric goes to work using mostly minor and some major pentatonics. The tune is an instrumental 12-bar blues. There’s the head, then the first solo, then a band figure, then two more choruses including the famous “stop” figure, then another band figure, which brings us to the 7th 12-measure chorus. Eric begins with a double-stop unison E, then a staccato attack that plays behind the beat. Midway through measure 7 he jumps ahead of the beat with a flurry of notes. That’s the lick. You can find Powertabs for it, and Andy Aledort has published some good tabs for this tune. But try to pull it off!
cmatthes Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 The UK Mag "Guitarist" did the absolute BEST transcription of the Clapton version of "Hideaway" a few years back. Between the transcription and the accompanying CD, some of those "impossible licks" came out of hiding, so to speak.Still freakin' hard as hell to do, and even harder to imagine ANYBODY doing that, much less at 21. Knock Clapton all you want for his "mature", softer stuff, but the man was (yes, and IS) a monster! I hate 99.9% of his pop fluff, but although it is cool to bash him, he'll forget how play more than pretty much all of us will ever know.
kurtsstuff Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Who would bash Clapton??...I can't even comment on such a thing...moronic, Imbeciles....
jettster Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 The solo for Poison's every rose has it's thorn. Pretty much anything by CC, he's the man.
Hunter_Brown Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 there are some lick in Vai's Tender Surrender that still don't flow right for me after 2-3 years of doing them...can't get them in time smootly b/c they're fingerings and positions that I just don't do normally in my trick bag of stock licks. Cry me a friggen' river Mr. can't master a few Steve Vai chops! I'm pretty sure he could play with just the knuckle side of his pinkie finger, and I'd have trouble gettin' it.
serial Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Yeah, that opening lick to "Day Tripper" always hangs me up. No wait, that was someone else... Now the lick that gets you to the center of the Tootsie Pop, that one will always be evasive.
sirDaniel Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 most of 'em! I was gonna say ... pretty much anything I didn't come up with myself! Actually Chris, I was going to ask you to write up the TAB for that 22 minutes of riffing you did at the MUSE. It's been inspirational to me...but I haven't been able to duplicate it
tobereeno Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 the first half of Eruption, I think I just can't see the bigger picture on the riffs.
Guest JackButler Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Hunter Brown..LOL!!!!!!!!!!! ok..ok...lol! I apologize!!! sheeeessshhhh!!!!!!! Can a brutha get a break around here?!?!?
Brewmaster Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Yeah, that opening lick to "Day Tripper" always hangs me up. No wait, that was someone else... Speaking of which, where is Traderlanc these days?
serial Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Hah! I figured SOMEONE might pick that one up. I'm the evil twin, no doubt.
cmatthes Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Ouch!I'll reserve my stinging, nasty comments on that one. I'm having a really good day and looking forward to a Friday night practice!
kizanski Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Now the lick that gets you to the center of the Tootsie Pop, that one will always be evasive. That one's easy, Steve. It's:"A one...a twoWHOO....a thrrrree....*CRUNCH* Thrrrree"Got it?I could show you again if you like.
MrGuitarguy Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Bare chords, they just stump me...But seriously, the opening pull-offs in Eruption. That open E string combined with the B and G string at once just screws up my picking rhythm. Damn you Eddie!Vai's "Sister" is crazy too.
Michael_ Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 The last little bit of Randy Rhoads solo on Crazy Train drives me nuts, but im getting to where I can do it passably. I need to clean it up some though.
