LordOfTheThighs Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 If it had been in a little better shape I probably would have thrown my hat in the ring for it. Still, it's an awesomeguitar. I was just a titty hair away from going for it.Glenn Tipton wanna be.
LordOfTheThighs Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 Ummm, not sure. Was there some discussion about it? Did somebody buy a pig in a poke? I hope not.
Pieman Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Oh, boy. The part about the Kahler parts throw in sounds ominous.........Thread entitled "that Sinking Feeling"and the tell-tale disclaimer in both the HFC ad and the ebay posting: "sorry...the pics are a little blurry"the original for sale posting
joshkava Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I guess I have to go through this again...the original for sale ad was a bit misleading.. i shoudln't have used the term 'mint'. its not a collectors guitar. its a players guitar at this point. Sounds great plays great.offered to send more detailed pics to the buyer from HFC but he didn't want them.. sent him the guitar. .he was unhappy.. i refunded his money immediately and fully. Buyer posted that thread before he had even talked to me.ended up selling it on ebay with a starting price of 499.99. I think those new pics are as clear as any you'll see in an ebay auction.Oh, boy. zorrow Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Is that the infamous Phantom from last week?It is.
DavidE Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 "I think those new pics are as clear as any you'll see in an ebay auction."No, they're not.
joshkava Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Ive gotten quite a few personal messages from members telling me that the HFC member who bought that guitar has a history of causing problems on boards and has been kicked off more than one.he OVERREACTED and FREAKED OUT cause he changed his mind.. he made that post dissing the guitar before he had even talked to me. he is a serious collector and has beautiful hamers that are in showroom condition. some people just like stirring up trouble and having a righteous cause to b(*&h about.really, David E? those pictures are misleading? what dont' they show that you'd like to see?its a 24 year old guitar in perfect playing shape that has some buckle rash and dings that were touched up. period.that guy freaked the f&(* out because it didn't look like a museum piece. again.. i take partial responsibility because i misused the word 'mint'. I didn't mean it in the collector's context.. just compared to the guitars i take out on the road with me, most of which look like they've been run over my an 18 wheeler. now i know what a 'player' means in terms of guitars and should have described it thusly. it is an awesome sounding and playing guitar.is that ok or should we start a new message board about what a f#(&(g piece of s*(t my phantom is?? Because it truly is a danger to the public."I think those new pics are as clear as any you'll see in an ebay auction."No, they're not.
MCChris Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 is that ok or should we start a new message board about what a f#(&(g piece of s*(t my phantom is?? Because it truly is a danger to the public.LOL!I'd just like to say that IMO there's no correct use of the word "mint" unless the item has never been removed from the sealed box from the factory. Anything else is B.S. marketing speak (which no one should really fall for anymore anyway, but that's another discussion altogether).
cmatthes Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Okay. For the record, Josh has explained himself here, and immediately gave a full refund to the original buyer who attempted to escalate matters and try things in a court of public opinion prior to attempting to resolve it directly first. Agreed that the guitar is in no way "mint", but Josh has also explained that, and most importantly, did the right thing. The guitar has been sold (via eBay), so this should be considered a dead issue at this point. Josh also sold another Hamer to a different member here who doesn't seem to have any issues with their transaction at this point.Remember that it is always incumbent on the buyer to ask questions, and sellers should always fully and accurately disclose any perceived defects or flaws. The HFC has been a solid place to deal for the membership for well over 10 years, and in all that time, only a handful of deals have gone south. In the end, I believe that all but 2, maybe 3 deals have not concluded with a more positive resolution. The membership here is very protective of our history of fair and trustworthy dealing, and I don't see that changing any time soon.
specialk Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 The membership here is very protective of our history of fair and trustworthy dealing, and I don't see that changing any time soon. This is the best part of the HFC, except for the friends made here... And the tunes posted here... And the witticisms posted here... And the gorgeous pics posted here... Jeez, how many best parts can a great place have? sk
HamerHokie Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 that guy freaked the f&(* out because it didn't look like a museum piece. again.. i take partial responsibility because i misused the word 'mint'. I didn't mean it in the collector's context.. just compared to the guitars i take out on the road with me, most of which look like they've been run over my an 18 wheeler. Since mint is an extremely non-subjective term, suggest you use the word 'minty,' which has become an annoying overused adjective meaning 'not in mint condition but allowing me to use a word that has a high positive connection with mint,' in the way that 'chocolately' means 'uses fake chocolate' and 'kakes' means 'cheap non-cakelike junk food.'
belgian Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Okay. The membership here is very protective of our history of fair and trustworthy dealing, and I don't see that changing any time soon. +1 I tempted a guy on leaving a guitar that I bought, for six months at his place.
GusS Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 guy offered a full refund for misusing the word 'mint', put it on ebay with a low starting price and no reserve bullshit and got even more money for it from a guy who's very likely to enjoy one hell of a guitar! fuck the other guy

Conrad - I think I still have a case with your name on it (yes - it's actually on a piece of tape on the case that reads "Conrad's Guitar!")... Would be a perfect excuse for my wife and I to get back to Belgium - it's been too long!
