atquinn Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-70s-Hamer-Stan...1QQcmdZViewItemStandards don't do a thing for me, but this seems like a great opportunity for someone with the cashola. Seems like a low starting price and the auction has no reserve. -Austin
Pieman Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Yes, those old tops look great. He has had it since 1980 and never had a case but he will get one now. Doh.
jerseydrew Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 It looks like a deal. I'm not an expert on these, can anyone shed some light on this? Does everything look and sound legit? What's "not right" with this guitar?I'm thinking about it. It's tempting but I don't have much knowledge on the 4 digit stuff. I wouldn't want to get beat.
cmatthes Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Looks okay to me. By that number (into the #0190s), I believe they were typically putting Schallers on there instead of Grovers, but those could be what was ordered originally or else what they had on hand the day they assembled it.Now would be a good time to buy that one.

Actually, Grovers were used on all models until some point in 1980 shortly after Specials were introduced.

Dude, A. that 4 digit rocks B. clean, un molested C. looks legit to me and others who might be bidding on it as well but keeping quiet... D. did I mention that it rocks! E. just get it!
ET_KenW Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Looks like a nice one. Way out of my price range, or talent range. LOLI will say I think it is bad form to post someone's phone number on the page. I would have tried to edit that post before putitng it up on the page.

Not the sellers fault.

I forgot that my old #0137 had gold hardware and knew the transition was right around '70/'80.Good to know.
Hamerica Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 That price sure climbed fast. Not as fast as it will within the last 2 minutes of the auction. BTW does anyone know if the Blonde Standard from Neals was purchased?Hamerica
Feynman Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 This is refreshing:"Hello all. I have received at least a dozen offers to BUY IT NOW and close the auction. I really appreciate the offers but I cannot in good conscience do this as I already have bidders. I understand your desires but I want to keep a level playing field for all interested. Thanks again! "
cmatthes Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 BTW does anyone know if the Blonde Standard from Neals was purchased?Brian - It was still up for @ $8k last time I saw it.

ScubaMarket Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Hey guys! Nice forum. I've been watching the standard on ebay. Aren't the 70' models supposed to have a white ring around the treble switch? Hopefully the bidding wont get too nuts. I had one years ago. I have a 2008 standard now
cmatthes Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Welcome aboard! They stopped adding that by the late '70s, but it was just a Gibson LP Standard part/Dimarzio part anyway. Pretty easy to put on there!
cmatthes Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Interesting to see that he posted the comments/questions. I can tell who a few of the people are just by reading them!!
