It looks like a deal. I'm not an expert on these, can anyone shed some light on this? Does everything look and sound legit? What's "not right" with this guitar?

I'm thinking about it. It's tempting but I don't have much knowledge on the 4 digit stuff. I wouldn't want to get beat.

Looks okay to me. By that number (into the #0190s), I believe they were typically putting Schallers on there instead of Grovers, but those could be what was ordered originally or else what they had on hand the day they assembled it.

Now would be a good time to buy that one.

Actually, unless they had gold hardware, Grovers were standard (ha!) until #0330 or so in 1980. Actually, Grovers were used on all models until some point in 1980 shortly after Specials were introduced.

Looks like a nice one. Way out of my price range, or talent range. LOL

I will say I think it is bad form to post someone's phone number on the page. I would have tried to edit that post before putitng it up on the page.

The guy willfully posted his phone #. Not the sellers fault.

I stand corrected! I forgot that my old #0137 had gold hardware and knew the transition was right around '70/'80.

Good to know.

That price sure climbed fast.

Not as fast as it will within the last 2 minutes of the auction. BTW does anyone know if the Blonde Standard from Neals was purchased?

This is refreshing:

"Hello all. I have received at least a dozen offers to BUY IT NOW and close the auction. I really appreciate the offers but I cannot in good conscience do this as I already have bidders. I understand your desires but I want to keep a level playing field for all interested. Thanks again! "

Brian - It was still up for @ $8k last time I saw it.

Ah yes, but a guy can dream, right?! :D

As my grandmother used to say, "if you don't ask, you don't get"!

Hey guys! Nice forum.

I've been watching the standard on ebay. Aren't the 70' models supposed to have a white ring around the treble switch?

Hopefully the bidding wont get too nuts. I had one years ago. I have a 2008 standard now

Welcome aboard!

They stopped adding that by the late '70s, but it was just a Gibson LP Standard part/Dimarzio part anyway. Pretty easy to put on there!

Interesting to see that he posted the comments/questions. I can tell who a few of the people are just by reading them!!

This one's a 79. The toggle switch ring was only original on the first 40-50 Standards.
