burningyen Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 This has to be an HFCer, right?http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/msg/1180500991.html
unfun75 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Pretty sure I've seen those before so it had to be on here.
specialk Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Someone had linked to a CL sale of the USA Hamer Korina Junior/Special set. I think the seller wanted 25k for the two guitars, or something crazy like that.
serial Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 "All bids will be held in strictest confidence"? Is this an auction of some sort? Some cool stuff, I like that Nielsen.
Feynman Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Think the Daytona is trans-white with a chunky neck and insane birdseye?Yeah, I don't either.
specialk Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Think the Daytona is trans-white with a chunky neck and insane birdseye? Yeah, I don't either. Aaah, you wouldn't like it anyway. It's the less well-known model, the Hamer Datona,
mirrorimij Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 That green doubleneck is the only one like it in existence. That was probably the most interesting project I worked on while I was at Hamer.Superb collection. I wonder why he is parting with them.
Hamerica Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 That green doubleneck is the only one like it in existence. That was probably the most interesting project I worked on while I was at Hamer.Superb collection. I wonder why he is parting with them.I'll second that. Very nice collection of limited Hamers. I hope this is not due to some financial hardship.Hamerica
RacerX Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Not a HFC'r.Not the Flynn collection. (although I'm pretty sure they came through there)They are real, legit and cool...And probably very expensive...Mark.
Feynman Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I have been communicating about the Daytona. Not a lot of detail yet, but it sounds promising. Can I assume from the folks that know him that he is a good guy? That is one killer collection. I feel bad sending so many questions about probably his lowest priced item, but I am interested. He has replied quickly to my inquiries, but I am awaiting some important details like color, or for some pics...
cmatthes Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I don't know the seller, and am not thinking that he is an HFC member. He is selling the guitars for considerably less than he was a few months ago.

He sent me prices on the ones I asked about. You can order yourself one hell of a C/O for what he's asking. But they are his and he can ask what he wants...
mc2 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 That green doubleneck is the only one like it in existence. That was probably the most interesting project I worked on while I was at Hamer. Superb collection. I wonder why he is parting with them. I asked him what he meant by "only one in existence" and he emailed.... "This is an Artist Custom Doubleneck. I was informed by Hamer that they only made on with the F hole. Obviously, I could be wrong but, as an example, your picture does not have F holes, the inlay is different, the pickups are different." Oh. (he forgot that the color is also different) Still a cool guitar (the reverse/opposing boomers on Peter's is WAAAAY trick! I think Peter's was one of Bill Kaman's no?)
mirrorimij Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 The emerald green Artist doubleneck is the only one like it in existence. There is an unfinished mahogany test piece somewhere that was built first to test out the tooling prior to running the "real" one. The test piece was either cut up or its in the Hamer morgue. I didn't see anywhere in the ad where the seller said its the "only one in existence". I said (and I am not the seller) it's "the only one LIKE IT in existence" There are other doublenecks out there based on the Sunburst shape but they have a different combination of features. You almost have to look "under the hood" to really appreciate that one.I may have a copy of the original custom order for it. I should try to dig it up and send it to the owner.
MR714 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 The emerald doubleneck did come from Flynn's. I remember when they got it in. I think they were asking $5,999 back then.

The "LIKE IT" was just above it in your post I quoted. It was the "under the hood" differences that I WAS wondering about, not the obvious pickups, inlays and color. Figured it might be chambered differently, etc. with the f-hole.Like I said...cool guitar. Also, the pic on the left I sent seller,..it wasn't in the CL listing. I had in my hard drive files. Don't remember where I got it. Was assuming it's the same guitar but was also why I asked for clarification. Don't know but looks like a pic from NAMM or other trade show booth.
cmatthes Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Jon:That pic was from a NAMM show, if I recall correctly. I have a late '90s Jpns Guitar mag with a shot of the Hamer display, and that's in there.I also have some shots from the factory of the mahog "dummy" test body with the necks around somewhere. That's one of my favorite Hamers of all time.

It's the less well-known model, the Hamer Datona, Hey, funny story. Guess what that Daytona turned out to be...? Trans-white with rosewood. What are the ****ing odds? Oh, it also comes with an extra maple boarded Warmoth neck, sure to see eBay in the near future. And Kinman pickups. And original case. In excellent condition. I must be doing something right.

Are you $#!++!ng me? Really? Jeez, some folks can land in a pile of poo and come out smelling sweet! I am assuming you've made arrangements to buy it.... CONGRATS! sk PS... When you're ready to sell it, let me know,
mirrorimij Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Some things worth noting on the green doubleneck......That flame maple top is two piece/bookmatched with a center seam. That maple blank had to be huge to get a top that wide. Anybody that has been to the factory knows Hamer has a big stash of primo maple. Out of Hamers entire inventory of maple there were maybe 2 or 3 pieces that were wide enough to a top like that. I don't think I've ever seen another doubleneck (by Hamer or anybody else) where the top is done that way. Its the same thickness top and top carve you would find on a Studio Custom, Ultimate, Artist, etc.Look at the way the switches are laid out. The three way toggle is in the exact position (relative to the neck) that you would find it on a single neck Artist. That required the wiring channels to be laid out precisely and routed BEFORE the top was glued on. They are not simply drilled. If the owner ever removes the pickups he will see the routs and how they perfectly line up where they need to be. That is a detail nobody is supposed to see but you wouldn't believe how much thought and work went in to doing it that way.I know from firsthand experience that one was over engineered to the Nth degree. That ranks up there with the Newport as the funnest thing I worked while I was there. I would really like to have that one.

I'd sell a ton of stuff to get one of those (that one or a new one), but a new one - if they'd even do it - would be an easy 5 figures today.
stormywaters Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 That Korina P90 Special sure looks schweet. Too bad it's part of a set, and way out of my price range.
