FS 1970 AMC Javelin SST

I was checking out a Vintage Marshall cab the other day and the guy asked me if I knew anyone who liked older cars. I told him that would be me. At any rate, it turned out to be a 1970 Javelin SST with a 304? (Sorry not an AMC guy) It appears to be in good restorative condition. Rust in the usual places. Originally was Orange and someone did a cheap paint of red. Body tag was there. Says he has a clean title.

PM or email me and I will hook you up with owner.

Thanks,

I rented one of those once, back in 1973. Put 400 miles on it that night. Left most of the tire rubber on the roads. Great car, but I don't think I'd want one these days....

My mom had a Hornet when I was a teenager. That was a surprisingly fast car.

Sorry. I wasn't looking for a car and didn't bring a camera.

Very cool cars. I still have my 73' Javelin AMX. I used to be pretty into the AMC hobby back probably 10 years ago or more, so I'd be glad to try to answer any AMC questions somebody might have. I guess I've been out of the hobby for quite a while if the going rate for a 304 SST is $7K though. However IF the car was originally orange it may have been a Big Bad Orange car (they were one of the 3 'Big Bad' limited edition paint schemes that AMC released on Javelins between 68' and 70'). American Motors and Hamers....frugal man's brands 'back in the day'

AMC triggers some childhood memories for me. I had a hot wheels AMC called the "Gremlin Grinder," with a big blower sticking up. I also remember seeing some special edition silver painted Gremlins and some other matching AMC's driving around town when I was about 6 or 7.

To complete the post derailment  , mine too! B)

My buddy in high school had a purple Gremlin with white racing stripes and a V8! Still wasn't that fast though and would overheat even though it was brand new.

there's a pic out here somewhere of my last one... $7k for a non-restored SST... I don't think I've been out of that long, he's dreaming... That's very non-special car...cool none the less but ordinary in the AMC world.. I also think a lot of muscle car prices have ben deflating these days except for the usual big dollar cars, again could be wrong.

Thanks for all the feedback. Again, I think the guy wanted $7,000 but I don't know how firm that was or even if that was the ballpark. If anyone can provide a website or a messageboard to where is the best place for him to post this please let me know.

Q. In The man with the Golden Gun? Which to makes of AMC's were the villian and James Bond driving? (I really don't know), but since everyone has went down memory lane, I thought I would ask.

A kid from my home town had one of these bad boys. I have a memory of this kid flying down the highway and a cruiser about 3/4 of a mile behind him. In some ways AMC way very prominent with some of the high performance models and the Eagle was alittle ahead of the curve. Then I think about the Gremlin, Pacer and Matador....

Damn, who would have thought there'd be this much action to an AMC thread on a Hamer guitar forum? B)

the red car Bond was driving in the movie was a Hornet X (hatchback), the car with the big ass wing was a Matador X coupe (at least I'm pretty sure it was before they added some extra sheet metal and a big wing on the roof!).

My brother bought this about a year ago, I think it's a '70. 390 built by Cook (sp?) bros racing, 4spd, he's not making a lot of progress, but it will be drivable someday. The PO used it quite a bit for auto-cross in the early '70s, although they aren't known for their handling.

if i remember this right, wasn't the big rub on the amc, that they did not paint or treat the frames?

I spun one of those on a long bay bridge in Pensacola. It was my brothers and he had spun the tires bald and I caught a rain storm. Spinning 360's down a 2 lane bridge over pensacola bay was not a good feeling. I was only doing about 90 when it started raining. I managed to get it under control and only hit the rear end on the pilings one time. Not to badly damaged.

about where the last sign is on the side with the cars coming towards you when looking at the picture.
