gtone Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Another George Barris classic - right up there with the Batmobile and the Red Baron. Just what a guit guy needs in his garage!
NeilZ Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 When I used to work for Opcode Systems, I used to see the Oscar Meyer Wiener mobile around Palo Alto. I saw it so often that I wondered if someone actually drove it as their around town car.....
Caddie Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 WHAT?! No factory warranty? No trunk for my golf clubs? Well those are deal killers for me. caddie
santellavision Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 And they say it's location is Denver. If any of you are going to bid on it, ($175,000) let me know and I can check it out for ya. - haha.
kurtsstuff Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Didn't see any intonation screws. even back then they knew..."Intonation is for pussy's!!"
H.I.P.TOOLER Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I too saw the oscar meyer wiener car driving Fremont , Ca. and wondered the same thing. I figured the guy driving it was Oscar. The voxmoblie appears to have more dealer options. Way cool.
Hamerhack Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 My son has a friend from California, who has a friend who owns the Barris Batmobile. This friend of my son's has gone to the drive thru at a McDonald's IN the Batmobile!
gtone Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 My son has a friend from California, who has a friend who owns the Barris Batmobile. This friend of my son's has gone to the drive thru at a McDonald's IN the Batmobile! That's incredibly cool - would (almost) give my left testicle for that opportunity! Wonder if that fake afterburner can on the back still works...
cmatthes Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 There are a few Batmobiles from the original series and movie around. That was my dream car as a kid!
Hamerhack Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 There are a few Batmobiles from the original series and movie around. That was my dream car as a kid! True. I don't know which one this guy has, but I was told he paid $2 million for it. I would hope that would be the "real" one with the correct interior vs. the car show versions.
mc2 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 A friend of mine in New Orleans owns The Beatles' Royals Royce. The one that was Epstein's, then Ringo's when he lived in L.A. He has it sitting in an old warehouse with about 20 other rare Rolls and other collectable cars. He showed me the documentation and it said that they'd come up with "Baby You Can Drive My Car" and "Ticket To Ride" in this car (was pages of info, just recall the songs.) I thought it was so strange that The Beatles' RR would be in what looked like an abandoned warehouse on the Mississippi River in New Orleans, considering Hurricane Katrina flooding. Plus it's in a really crappy part of "da 'hood." I guess everyone near there just figures it's an empty building. Shot a couple of pics when I was there. My friend said he'd chased the car for more than a decade, trying to get it and had to bring it over from England when he finally bought it. It was pretty cool to get to sit in it. I told him that he should get it on that history show that traces down famous items to show where they are now, since it's in such a bizarre place -- going from all the pomp and celebrity during The Beatles' heyday to it's current reclusive haunt.
Steve Haynie Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 According to wikipedia there was the original Batmobile then Barris did three copies. So four Batmobiles are out there. $5000 got a Monkeemobile in the 90's.
cmatthes Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 $5000 got a Monkeemobile in the 90's.And that was my SECOND dream car as an elementary school kid!
pesocaster Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I have seen this car in person.... it used to be in the showroom of a really nasty music store in the very early 80's.The store was called Stings & Things.... (East Colfax & Elm) ... place reeked of cigs and dogs.... was more like a junkyard than store... and the owner didn't have any vocal cords had the hand held voice buzzer.... creeped me out as a young teen in the very early 80's...
