crunchee Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 No affiliation. I haven't seen many of these later models around...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
atquinn Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Very nice price for that (IMO). At this point anyway.-Austin
velorush Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I am watching it, really liking it, thinking I might like to have it... but I'm afraid it will have that same "shouldered" neck that the '83 Phantom had (and I couldn't get along with).
stonge Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I am watching it, really liking it, thinking I might like to have it... but I'm afraid it will have that same "shouldered" neck that the '83 Phantom had (and I couldn't get along with).I've owned two Phantoms and a Phantom Custom from the late-90's builds, and the necks on those were vintage-style (two were pretty stout and one was "chunky"). While all Hamers are subject to variation, this era had at least solved the skinny-neck issue that some folks have with the early nineties models.Neck profiles are the least of my worries - I can make anything from an Ibanez Jem to a Warmoth boatneck profile sound bad lol...
cmatthes Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 That is a really great price on that one. I started watching it at the beginning of the auction, but have other irons in the fire right now, unfortunately.
bubs_42 Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I'm watching it, its only 10 minutes from work. An HFC'er has one close to the price so he will probly be getting my money instead of the ebay auction.
Aceldama Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I'm pretty sure that's limed mahogany.Oh man, that Ebay ad had me laughing.
carfish7 Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I have the same piece, in fact 6 #'s later serial-wise, and it is a stellar ride with all kinds of tone and comfort to boot. I love the weight and simplicity, but miss a deeper tone and have posted about possible router solutions in the past in an attempt to elevate it to "Hall of Fame" status. I'm adding the THD 6-way dealie rather than adding a neck pickup, but it is close to perfection except for the color I might believe it is limed in some fashion, because it has a distinct greenish hue to it that reminds me of 70's appliances. Stike needs to intervene on this thing. Oh, and the neck does NOT have that "D" shaped thing going on - it is a normally rounded, substantial feeling handle on mine. A little over $600 with some extra pickups and hardware seems like a pretty good deal to me. Z
atquinn Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Definitely a nice closing price for that. I can't get down with TV Yellow and have about 3 too many guitars as-is or I might have thrown my hat in the ring.-Austin
bubs_42 Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I stayed out of it. Good solid price and close to home just not mine.
Hamerweizen Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I stayed out of it. Good solid price and close to home just not mine. I went for it and got sniped with about 5 seconds left. Out by $10. Oh well, hope it found a good home.
G Man Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Wow, glad I didn't see this one, otherwise I would have had some serious explaining to do with the wife. Unlike Austin, I love me some TV Yellow.
