Little Walter, Hank Marvin, Hendrix, EVH

So much of what we have heard in rock guitar in the last 40 (33 for EVH) years emanated from these four: Little Walter was overdriving an amp into distortion in 1953. Hank Marvin invented the trem-bar-in-the-hand technique and great melodic inventions so masterfully developed by Jeff Beck. Hendrix re-invented what electric guitar could do with overdriven Marshalls and blues-based structures; EVH re-invented it again with a new level of virtuosity, playing the overtones, tapping, etc.
