Guest Mike Lee Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 There is an exception to that rule:Any time you tell anyone that you play electric guitar, they ALWAYS ask "Do you have a Fender?"
John E Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Great news. Let a thousand flowers bloom. Now my happiness would be complete if some court would just put out a big fat advisory opinion gratuitously telling Fender to stop thinking of ever suing another manufacturer for using the Strat or Tele body shapes.
Matt Mattson Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 "Any time you tell anyone that you play electric guitar, they ALWAYS ask "Do you have a Fender?" and I always reply: "Yes -- it's on my Jeep!"
Armitage Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 My Sony DVD player looks like a Yamaha DVD player from the sofa...
DavidE Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I would LOVE to see a PRS Singlecut ad campaign with the slogan:"ONLY AN IDIOT would think that this is a Les Paul"Borrowing Gibson's own language to advantage would be sweet and funny as hell. Oh my gawd that would be hilarious!!!!Email that to Paul Smith.
bruce919 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I don't think you would ever get Les Paul to hold a PRS. I am sure he gets a nice check from Gibson evey year. Hell He probably get 5-10 Bucks or so For every Lester made. You don't $hit where you sleep.
bobbymack Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Good for the court and PRS.I love my Les Pauls, but Gibson and the lower court were both way out of line with this lawsuit. And Serial, a great ad idea...
BCR Greg Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I'm glad it worked out like this. Had it stuck, Martin could have successfully argued that the majority of acoustic gutiars looked too similar to their own Dreadnaught design from the 1930s. Imaging THAT fallout.
kurtsstuff Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Simply put...Allthough I like a nice Les Paul from time to time....A PRS is so much more a class act and a much better guitar...And I do agree....YOU'D HAVE TO BE A FRICKIN IDIOT TO CONFUSE THE 2!!!!! Thank god there is some justice from time to time....fuck you henry (
edgar_allan_poe Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 and a much better guitar...More consistant? Yes. Better? hmmm...not sure. IMHO they are apples and oranges. Every Single Cut PRS that I have played has been nothing like a LP. The only thing that they share is the single cut shape. Even the pups are made for different purposes...PRS has always been about versatility, while Gibby just does the PAF thing.Like I said...apples and oranges.
eightyfour Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Like I said...apples and oranges. I'm proud of you Poe, you're now comparing apples and oranges. Not too long ago it was bbq ribs and cheese fries.
serial Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Poe can still do the ribs w/ a good dry rub, just not the fries.
kizanski Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Poe can still do the ribs w/ a good dry rub, just not the fries. ...and apples and oranges are a NO-NO!

Thank god there is some justice from time to time....fuck you henry ( True, 9 out of 10 times the PRS is a better built guitar than Gibson, so is Hamer for that matter. However, when you get a good Les Paul, like my R7 it just has that certain chemistry which at this point and time makes it my main guitar. Of course I got rid of those horrid Bursbucker paperweight pickups but I seldom find a stock guitar that sounds just like I want it too. I do like some PRS guitars and liked the single cuts the best so Im glad they will be back. What I cant stand is that god awful headstock shape that PRS has....eww.

Even the pups are made for different purposes...PRS has always been about versatility, while Gibby just does the PAF thing.Like I said...apples and oranges. A Les Paul with a good set of pickups straight into a good Marshall is a sound signature unto itself. My Les Paul is extremely versatile. I usually see PRS guitars slung off of the power chord de-tuned types plugged into Rectumfriers or other chugga chugga wall of mud type amps.
kizanski Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I don't know about any of you guys, but I have played a few PRSs that were absolute duds.I can only remember playing one or two Hamers that I though were substandard.
serial Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I've played a few really great PRS' and some great LPs, but Hamers have been the guitar that I've been happiest with overall.
eightyfour Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I don't know what it is about a PRS that has just never clicked with me, I've played a number of them and have never been terribly impressed. There's no denying the craftsmanship and they sure look great, just never got a rise outta any of 'em.
DavidE Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Love my McCarty. My CU22 is an excellent geetar.
kurtsstuff Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I've played a few really great PRS' and some great LPs, but Hamers have been the guitar that I've been happiest with overall. I have never had any problems whatsoever with any Hamers I've owned and over the years thats been a considerable amount. Gibsons....well...always a crap shoot and have had some basically useless, lifeless wastes of wood no matter what you did to it....I've only owned and played 5-6 PRS's but each one was exceptional out of the box with no tweaking necessary. Also...I feel Gibson is just way too proud of the the usually substandard product they produce and yes I agree...I have had some "magic" Pauls in the past but those are very far and few between. I really do feel that the PRS is a better guitar musically and in playability as well as construction but that does'nt mean it's the guitar I choose to play....hell...I play Cali's....does that make the Cali a better guitar??...not by a long shot but it just goes to show ya....it's all in what gives ya the warm fuzzies when ya play it and we all have our likes and dislikes and opinoins.......IS THIS A GREAT FRICKIN COUNTRY OR WHAT???!!!!! hehe
silentman Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Never played a dud Hamer. I've played some that didn't feel right as far as neck size, but they all sounded good. I've played a few PRS's that didn't move me but a friend just bought a Mcarty Hollow II that kicks serious booty.
edgar_allan_poe Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I'm proud of you Poe, you're now comparing apples and oranges. Not too long ago it was bbq ribs and cheese fries.LOL!! Thats a good one....funny as hell.BTW Atkins makes a killer BBQ sauce. HAHAHAHAHHAHA

BCR Greg Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 H easts liek a bird.A large, wasting away before your eyes bird, but a bird.*edit*Notice my great spelling... I suck.
paults Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Has there been any indication of if Gibson is going to persue a higher court? Or, is it done?
