hardheartedbill Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 looking for some more Frank and Joe Show, gypsy style jazz that is freakin amazing!
zorrow Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Nevermore. Their last album, "This Godless Endeavor", is worth a listening.I also make the last albums from John Sykes ("Bad Boys Live") and George Lynch ("Furious George") to spin endlessly.
Guest Buck Dharma Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Not a new band at all but I just discovered Joe Bonamassa about 6 months ago. He is the kinda music I like Blues based rock!!
Hackubus Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Another not so new band by any stretch, but newish to me....I'm digging The Wildhearts. Saw them last summer with The Darkness. Very cool show.
BCR Greg Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Antigone RisingAvenged SevenfoldBlack Rebel Motorcycle ClubSilvertide. I started by fixing their guitars, now I am a fan. They are in the next M Knight Shamalan moovie, Nick Perri informed me yesterday. Bruce, the singer is such a cool guy. While we were hanging on the bus after the gig, he was going around cleaning, taking out the trash, emptying ashtrays. I asked him why he was doing it, he said it made him relax after the gig and that he knew that it helped the other guys if he kept the place neatened up.Great bunch of Kids, those puppies. Check the new Rolling Stone, they are in there.*typing is hard. I prove that often*
elduave Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Another not so new band by any stretch, but newish to me....I'm digging The Wildhearts. Saw them last summer with The Darkness. Very cool show. Must Be Destroyed is a Phenomenal record but beware of some of their other stuff. Bad production, lackluster songs. MBD is one for the ages though...
Hackubus Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 My wife picked up an imported 2 cd Wildhearts live album. It's fairly recent, I think alot of it was recorded on the English leg of last years tour IIRC. For the life of me, I can't recall the name of the live disc. Yea brutha man, their is some shitty production on some of their earlier stuff.
belikerick Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Not a new band at all but I just discovered Joe Bonamassa about 6 months ago. He is the kinda music I like Blues based rock!!+1 on Bonamassa - he's a stud.I've been liking Dirty Americans and Living Things lately but my favorite "new" band still has to be Drive by Truckers. If you like southern rock (even if you don't) check 'em out AND they are one of the best live bands I have ever seen.
Punkavenger Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Not exactly new but the newest I'm listening to...1. Electric Wizard "Dopethrone"2. Kyuss "Blues for the Red Sun"3. Monster Magnet "Spine of God"All three recommended "highly"
Brooks Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Not exactly new but the newest I'm listening to...Kyuss "Blues for the Red Sun" i love kyuss, esp "sky valley" & "circus left town".also love obsessed "church within", and spirit caravan "jug fulla sun".hoping there will be another tenacious d cd!!saw these guys w/ acoustics on HBO, they're from new zealand & are called "flight of the conchords", friggin hilarious acoustic comedy ala tenacious d, check 'em out.
Ryan07 Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Not a new band, but I just discovered the downright demented guitar playing of Mattias IA Eklundh. After the first listen I was like "damn I really need to get me a Digitech Whammy." Come to find out, it's not a Whammy.... It's all done with harmonics! Crazy fool.
David B Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I've been liking Dirty Americans and Living Things lately but my favorite "new" band still has to be Drive by Truckers. If you like southern rock (even if you don't) check 'em out AND they are one of the best live bands I have ever seen. I went in the studio this weekend & the owner was talking about them. He said they were just recording in the same studio.
biffrythm Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Dirty Americans and Backyard Babies and not new but I just got a few old angel city cds. Remember them?
DaxT1138 Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Head Automatica is a really cool dancey/rock band with the singer and drummer from Glassjaw and some other guys. really fun, raunchy sound. also Punch People from New Orleans, who do alot of jazz-influenced hard rock, record, distribute and manage themselves independently. Alien Ant Farm is another band i'm sure you've all heard of but gets a ton of flak because of their first singles and 'chick band' image. seriously talented, seriously nice guys. seen them twice now, going again in October. these guys love tiny venues and hanging out after shows Kaki King!!! saw her in SF with some friends and fellow HFCer Zipperneck. one of the best, most inspiring shows i've ever been to. immediately became one of my top 5 guitarists. cute too

DBT are due for a cranking album, hope it's out sometime in '06!

Cheap Chick Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I've been listening to The New Pornographers latest release, Twin Cinema. Very good power pop from this group. They'll be playing at 1st Ave next month, and I'll be there for sure.http://www.thenewpornographers.com/I've also been listening to Bob Mould's latest release, Body of Song. He'll be playing in town next week, and I'll be there as well... I (heart) Neko Case! (who's in the New Pornographers)
cmatthes Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 saw these guys w/ acoustics on HBO, they're from new zealand & are called "flight of the conchords", friggin hilarious acoustic comedy ala tenacious d, check 'em out. Brooks is right on - these guys are funny as hell! Great singers too - I'm checking to see if they're hitting the Improv here in DC on this tour.David B. - it must be a semi-religious experience recording at Fidelitorium with Mitch behind the wheel. Awesome - I've got to git some of your stuff, man!

David B Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Yeah DavidB-anything to get on the HFC 3 or if you've got recordings, post where we can get 'em. I'm mastering 3 tracks tomorrow. You guys may have to help me with how to post it. I'd love it to be on the HFC 3 CD. You can hear older stuff we did with Mitch Easter at www.spankonline.com on the Music page (sign the guestbook). We will put the new songs there this weekend as well.

Michael_ Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Motion City Soundtrack (introspective, sing along pop rock) Funeral for a Friend (hardcore with GREAT guitar playing), and Three Inches of Blood (self explanatory) are some of my newer favorites.
David B Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Wow-exactly what I was looking for. Cool new tunes! Thanks DavidB!!! And from my all-time favorite producer too. Thank you guys so much! I'm glad you like it. Mitch is amazing & so easy to work with. You NEVER have to over explain things to him. He knows right away. We did all of those songs on a budget & they still sound professional to me. I really recommend him & his studio.
