Crimsontider Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 The Taylor Swift post got me thinking about it. I would be interested in seeing some favorites.Shirley MansonAimee MannKelly ClarksonAlanis MorrisetteChrissie HyndeThanks
Bennyboy-UK Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I used to like Louise Wener from sleeper, Sonya Maden from Echobelly back when I was Britpopping on this side of the pond... However...Wendy James... Transvision Vamp... Phwoar! Lots and lots more, but these'll do as I need to be off to bed, and am all out of clever for the evening Edit...link to stupid remix fixed with what I'd intended.
Bennyboy-UK Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Beyonce has super lungs I have to admit (I'm amongst friends) that I like Whitneys singing in a couple of the 80s pop anthems Nina Simone... I like Pink as well. And Christina... I do like belters... Probably not enough kudos in most of the above, but I like them Oooh... And Marie Fredriksson -Roxette... (There's a pop theme here isn't there...)
Crimsontider Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 Good choices. I am probably older, I assume. I forgot to mention the singer Dale Bozio from Missing Person's. I'm stuck in history I think.
Hamersaur Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Heart (going to see them this Saturday) Suzi Quatro Sarah Mclachlan Amy Lee (Evanescence) Linda Perry (4 Non Blondes) Chrissie Hynde
Bennyboy-UK Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 You've got a few years on me... I probably go for what's in my face and what's considered classily excellent from well before my time, and miss the 70s early 80s bit to a certain extent... I'll have a think. Mr Gordon's, and Ms Schweppes are clouding my clarity somewhat
Feynman Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Do you mean for their art, or for other reasons, or does it matter?

Bennyboy-UK Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Here you go Greg...The first Garbage song I ever heard on the radio when getting ready to go out in town up when I was a young-un.... Remember it with clarity.

Bennyboy-UK Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 The main thing I have against Annie Lennox is her murder of Shining Light by Ash. The missus loves her... So need to disagree with her naturally !
Crimsontider Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 Here you go Greg...The first Garbage song I ever heard on the radio when getting ready to go out in town up when I was a young-un.... Remember it with clarity. Great vid, here is the last one I saw She is like the perfect woman, Scottish accent and all. How can you not like her? Great video, music and that thick sexy voice. She puts Taylor Swift to shame, but I think musically minded people probably know this. I doubt the Garbage super producers would have picked Taylor out of some obscure foreign half ass produced music video playing at midnight and then fly her over the next day like they did with Shirley. Yes, any female artist, not necessarily singer in retrospect. I wanted to add Stevie Nicks to the mix. Great posts, thanks.
cmatthes Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I shot this shot from the guitar pit at a Garbage show a few years back...
Crimsontider Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 That's some good stuff. The Shop assistants have a post punk / 80's college radio feel that I like. I would bet my house that you do not dislike the B-52's either, whom I like a lot. That's some interesting stuff, where else could I get that angle but here. Someone mentioned going to see the Wilson Sister's so I wanted to post my all time favorite Heart vid. I like the early solo, but I have to fast forward to Ann who is incredible in this....imo.
a.bandini Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 No one has mentioned her, so I will: Shawn Colvin. I think she is terrific. Someone else already has, but I will again: Aimee Mann. She's smart, and has stood the test of a few decades. Neko Case. Awesome. Joan Armitrading. Fantastic.Emmy Lou Harris. Wonderful. Joni Mitchell. A part of many of our lives. Catherine Maclellan. Unsung heroine. Suzanne Vega, too. Someone already mentioned the amazing Alison Krauss. She's something else!So many others, who I can't think of at the moment. It is kind of funny: Until I was about 30 I didn't have more than a couple albums featuring a female vocalist (had a small collection, too, and limited income). Since then, I run about 50/50.
Crimsontider Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 I bought the B-52's wild planet when it came out. I liked the female vocal blend, which was the best since ABBA. How many men admit they like ABBA? I like anything that's good, but prefer metal and post punk. Til Tuesday and Garbage are my all time favorite female fronted rock bands.

cmatthes Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Forgot about Voice of the Beehive. They put on a fun show.
Willie G. Moseley Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Tracy Nelson-listen to the last verse of "Mother Earth" by the band of the same nameChristina Amphlett-voice somewhere between a hiccup and a burp, and she still scares meAimee MannNina SimoneMinnie Ripperton-especially the Rotary Connection stuff (Maya Rudolph's mom)Maddy PriorTina Turner (especially in the Ike & Tina days)
Toadroller Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Lots of faves mentioned here. I've got a soft spot for quirky ladies in the music. My wife, on the other hand, simply ridicules me for listening to depressing songs. She's got a point there with.... Aimee Mann and Alanis Morisette; Lucinda Williams. But then there's Kate Bush, Margot Timmons from the Cowboy Junkies, Emylou, Fiona Apple, Grace Potter, Guilty-Pleasure Gweni-Gwen-Gwen Stefani, Kirsty MacColl, Maria McKee, Michelle Branch, Martha Davis (Motels), Norah, Ricky Lee Jones, Patty Griffin (A Mainiac, I do believe), Sade, Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Colvin, yes, Sheryl Crowe, Susan Tedeschi, and someone at the end of my library, Various Artist. Got a lot of her work.
