ARM OF HAMER Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I'm on "The Les Paul Forum" and we have been discussing it..................some of the people ARE speculating as to what it is based on this or that from photos....................the folks at GM said it was a real 59 that was in need of restoration. Hard to believe they would be involved in a misrepresentation/scam of such a guitar with Paul Stanley["Hey Paul went on the net and said he had a real 59 "Burst" when really its R9.....why would he do that and look like a fool? just saying],wouldn't be good for either of their reps one would not think. They [GM] say its a refin of a real 59 not a conversion Lp or a 'Historic Makeover" type of thing.I would think if Paul plunked down the BIG $$$$ for this guitar he had some experts look it over very carefully before he did so.
cynic Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 My comment was only poking fun at LPF and not intended to stir the conspiracy pot. It's ironic that the group most critical of authenticity are content with the most inaccurate reissues around next to the Chinese stuff.
anotherfreak Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 if it's a fake, where can I get in line???
ARM OF HAMER Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Sure I understood you were just giving the guys at the LPF the jab.................everyone sees something different on the LPF when it comes to a guitar like this to be sure.I'm sorry to say that as a one time[and longtime] Gibson Les Paul devotee a lot of the guitars being made are way overpriced and the quality is so poor............I looked at a $6K Gibson Les Paul the other day with a friend who wants a "GOOD ONE"............ Custom Shop.It had............... binding bleed, bridge misaligned,"Orange Peel" in the finish in the back of the headstock,...........it felt cheap, can't believe this went out the door in Nashville. The Gibson guitars from the "Golden Age" ARE the ones to have but unfortunately they also are way overpriced and out of reach to most regular guitarists.Stanley's got a real one I believe and I'm sure he paid some good $$$ to have it...............something I'll never own thats for certain.
Brentrocks Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 The guys over at LPF have examined all ten pictures and have concluded it's a fake.asshatscork sniffers
Armitage Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 If I had 126 Million I wouldn't be buying one that was repaired after being all busted up.
Steve Haynie Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 If I had 126 Million I wouldn't be buying one that was repaired after being all busted up.Maybe Paul wants a player instead of something that one might be afraid to drop... within the context of expensive vintage Les Pauls.
MCChris Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 If I had 126 Million I wouldn't be buying one that was repaired after being all busted up.True. I'd be more interested in the dozens of other ones that are readily available.
DaveL Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 My vote is the guitar looks more real than his hair... but seriously... good for him, if kiss is anything, they are incredibly hard working even when they were pissing moneyaway in the late 70's
murkat Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 " it felt cheap, can't believe this went out the door in Nashville " that's because I do not work there anymore you know the "mapleflame mod"? you know who fathered the mod? I am hardly on the LPF anymore, pompus. Ive seen, chatted with Paul a few times while at the GCS, He does like his guitars, nice guy.
dragan Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 any mention of what he paid ? quite a variable depending on how originalhttp://www.garysguitars.com/catalog/1952-gibson-les-paul-59-conversion-gie0038 35,000 conversion from 52http://www.gruhn.com/photo/EB6484.jpg 180,000 58http://www.gruhn.com/photo/EB6234.jpg 135,000 60 w/ repaired headand then there was the 295000 out of the closet from elderly
Jason01 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I met Paul once, first thing that popped out of my mouth was "wow, I thought you'd be taller". All those years of idolizing the band and thats the best I could come up with. *facepalm* Good for him on getting "the dutchess", I hope he can get it out and play it live.
jisham Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 He won't play it live. He uses those god awful Washburn Firebird wannabe things now, although I suspect he gets paid handsomely for doing so.Like many, I'm a musician because of KISS but I really hope they just go away after the Hall of Fame induction. But it won't happen.
Never2Late Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Watching Stanley handle a guitar is like watching Danica Patrick handle a race-car. Bookies should make odds as to how many pieces are left after the 'show'.
ARM OF HAMER Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Jay I'd send anything to you that I needed fixed and feel confident it would be done first class..................I have seen your work here on the Hamer forum and when you worked at Jim Harm's place. Gibson is at a loss for your talents for sure, its a big move to go private from corporate but at some point you have to assess your worth and then ...................well there you go..............your obviously doing very well. SOME of the LPF members are pretty cool but there ARE snobs and look down on anyone that does not have the bread for a real burst or some other high dollar Gibby.Paul's Burst looks like a nice one.............with his $$$ I'd have to believe most anything guitar wise is within his reach. Hope he is digging this one. : )
HSB0531 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I think it's cool that he bought it.I don't think he'll play it live though.Too much of an investment.
carfish7 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I'm so happy for him...... I read that thread over at the LPF - I'm laughing inside at all the brow-furrowing going on about it authenticity. Some people have an odd perspective on what is important in this world. Get over yourselves!
jerseydrew Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I don't know what's sadder: A) That it'll never be used to it's full capabilities or That you follow Paul Stanley on Twitter I seriously laughed out loud on that one. Me too
