Treble booster in the effect chain?

Montelovesco

Question

Posted

I got this nice Catalinbread Naga Viper form LordoftheJungle (thanks again for the smooth deal). Sounds great if I use it alone, and I didn't put in on my board yet because I wonder where in the effect chain its place would be - before or after the OD section? Or doesn't it matter at all in end?

Any hints would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Most seem to prefer them before an OD (especially germanium TB's, for some reason) , but like Ben indicated, it's really a matter of personal choice.

Use it first. It will work better with a wah or other dirt pedals if it is first. I have one and it is a great pedal. Somehow they managed to make a silicon TB act and react like a germanium TB. Set the amp on the edge of break up or full on and then step on the Naga!

This is how I do it as well .

I run my Java Boost right after my wah and before any other overdrives or boosters. Seems to work well that way.

Yep! The treble booster really likes to "see" the pickups, but do experiment.

I've tried mine DAM Red Rooster before and after the fuzzes and od and liked it last in the chain when I was running other pedals. Now its all alone.

Hunh... I always used a treble booster last...

I run wah, Decimator input 1, phaser, JHS BananaBoost (HBE Germania, Diaz Texas Ranger, BeanoBoost, NagaViper, etc...) Decimator input 2 and FauxTapeEcho last. Seems to work best this way and the repeats don't get clipped by the noise reduction.

EDITED for clarity.

You said Decimator twice.

Well, yes, I did say it twice. Decimator input1 n/r and a second channel, input2 for the FX feed. I wasn't clear, I fear.

LOL, classic.

I've been using treble boosters since ever and, as some have already said, they work great when they're first in the chain -well, if you have a wah, they will be second.

Back on the OT again. Thanks for the hints. I ran the thing at the end, but I will put it after my autowah tomorrow... We will see.

Ok, I tried it. and what can I say - it did not work. At least not for me. I tried with different guitars and different amp setting. The treble best works best at the end of the chain. Maybe it is just because I and my ears are used to this. Anyway, it was with a try. I will post a pic from the board in the "Show your thing pedalboard"-thread...

Yeah, the booster has the most output... that'd why it's a booster... put it before most anything and you won't get the output.
