Q: HAMER: Standard? Explorer?

Question

Hi -

Can anyone ID this guitar for me? I got it from Hamer in 2000 and the serial number stamped into the back of the headstock is: 543673 or 543873 or 543S73 - I just can't read the 4th number very well.

The guitar has been sitting in my vault since the day I got it and I'm now wanting to find a new home for it.

Thanks so much in advance.

Serial number puts it as a 1995. There is a small usa after the Hamer name right?

Hi! Thank you for responding so quickly! :) Yes, there is a small "USA" with the HAMER logo on the headstock. What $ range should I price this in - it is in flawless condition having been in the original Hamer case since 2000.

Also, what model is this guitar?

Yeah, a Hamer Standard, not a Hamer Standard Custom, which would have neck binding and crown inlays.

My Fav Hamer is a '95 Hamer Standard... though I have many Standard Customs.

Yipes! i have it’s identical twin only two numbers off! Mine also came with a Hamer import case, so this may lead me to believe that the factory (or TKL in Canada) might have run out of USA hard cases and they used these instead?

That’s a beauty Standard. I’m not an expert, but, I would say, ballpark, $1600-2000? It’s hard to say. As Chris mentioned above, bound/crowned Standard Customs are more desirable, and they typically fetch more coin than Standards.

Calling our serial number savant "serial" to the white courtesy phone. Repeat, calling Doctor Serial to the white courtesy phone.

Cheers!

Thanks again for all of the info today - I really appreciate it and anything more you guys can add to it.

FYI - I originally got this guitar from Hamer for a documentary film I was producing on my former band (The Runaways) because my lead guitar player (Lita Ford) had a black Standard and later, a white one (serial #003 or something like that.) This, of course, was in the late 1970s.

Long story short, we've been clearing out our vault and getting rid of a lot of old gear - this guitar included.

That was from the first year (1995) they started officially "reissuing" the Standard. It was a catalog guitar and their flagship model until the early/mid 80s, and then they stopped cataloging them. When the 1995 catalog came out, they re-released the flametop version in dots & bound with crown inlays, and also offered it in black with a plain maple veneer underneath.

Cool guitar.

I'll try to take a photo of the serial number a little bit later today.

The serial number on mine starts 540 I can't imagine Hamer was making 3000 guitars in '95... they must skip stuff...

They were building about 90 per week in 1995.

1995 was a great year for Hamer necks (and guitars as a whole).

Congrats on the Standard! Makes me wonder what else is in the vault....

Love the Runaways. I think Lita's white one is #0012?

Rob is probably in the ballpark-the fact that it's pristine will help for sure-great guitars!

Almost looked like an Ebony board there for a sec!

You shouldn't have too much trouble selling it. I mean, where else are you gonna find a virtually new black 1995 Standard?

Beautiful guitar.

This has been my dream axe for years!!! Have a pic of Lita playing hers. And I think JJ French is playing one in an old

Sister vid. (real brief shot). Id like to have flame top one some day with the inlays, but this one is best served with dots..
