Pickup recommendations? (again)

Question

It seems to be a common subject around here, but here goes.

I'm considering building another Frankenstrat, this time with passives. For pickups, I'm leaning toward a bit more "muscular" than stock, with a bit of boost to the bridge position. Probably not enough enough extra grunt to warrant a bridge humbucker, but just a little extra grunt.

Single coil form factor, noiseless would be nice but not essential. Just a little extra oomph.

TIA

I think the SD '59 was popular back in the beginning super strat days for a bridge pickup.

Can't go wrong with a JB jr. in the bridge.

with DiMarzio... a Heavy Blues 2 is great in the bridge.

The JB jr will give you a single coil sized humbucker that is very articulate with good note separation. The Heavy Blues 2 leans more towards a traditional strat sound. Both have good midrange and are a bit more muscular.

Vintage Vibe winds a single coil sized P90 type and so does Fralin. For a bit extra grunt, ask the winder of your choice to wind a Strat style a bit beefier. Or a lot beefier. This way you keep the SC crunch and form factor without changing to a humbucker. You have tons of choices. Aaron at Rumpel pickups will wind anything you want or describe.

That Jim Wagner Murkat will do what you want and I too am a JB fan for superstrats, my "Ruby Slippers" ESP has an old, old one in it that is perfect for the guitar.

On a related Frankenstrat note, has anyone tried than Duncan '78 model or whatever it's called, the one that's supposedly SD's classic-EVH-tone pickup?

Not noiseless, but I'm a big fan of a Dimarzio SDS-1 in the bridge. When I play a strat, I can go from clean to dirty by switching from the stock middle pickup the the SDS-1 in the bridge. It sounds a lot like a P-90.
