Need to paint Pepto Pink Hamer

Question

So a friend of mine purchased this Chaparral on either reverb or ebay a while ago. I t is described as a Pepto Pink.  He has asked me to repaint it the original color Pepto Pink. What do you guys know about pepto pink.  I cannot tell if it is metallic.  What is the process of reproducing the Pepto pink?  Also, as you can see the serial is ink stamped.  How to repaint the guitar and preserve the serial number?

Any ideas?

Here is the original listing with images:

Thanks

^^Agreed.
With those things becoming more and more rare, f**king with it is an increasingly bad idea. He'll kill it's value.

"Pepto Pink" was never a Hamer finish.  That's Pink Pearl.  Very common in 1986-87.

I strongly recommend leaving that finish alone. It looks great, as is.

You don't, it will have to be reproduced.

As already noted that is a pink pearl. It's easy enough to mix if you'll start with plain white pearl basecoat paint ( platinum would be better ) and add pink dye concentrate until you have the right color. Pearl paints require an absolutely perfect substrate if not they will look like total shit.

The finish most commonly recerred to as 'Pepto Pink' is Hamer's 'Fuchsia'.

Yeah, that is Pink Pearl and looks GREAT!!!

Although the bright dayglo Fushia is commonly the one referred to as "Pepto Pink," Hamer also did a custon pastel pink that was more like a Pepto Pink.....like the color of Tom Petersson's original 10-string Bass or Pete Farndon's B4S he used in The Pretenders or Shakira's Special.

Then....Hamer also did a Pink Pearl Snakeskin by Jim O'Connor like this:

Just curious.  What would you use as a pearl white base coat?  The ones I checked are over $100 a quart.

Can you use a Lacquer with white pigment and some pearl flakes or is there a specific already mixed base coat paint that you use?  Also, what about the dye concentrates.  What do you use?

Thanks

Ignore the color of the speed shape in the link. http://www.tcpglobal.com/Automotive-Paint/KUS-SP101/ Dry pearl powder mixed in clear sprayed over a white base will do the trick. For color add some of this. http://www.tcpglobal.com/Automotive-Paint/HOK-Paint-KK18/ Not a bad idea to add some to the white base coat color.

Probably because you could paint a small truck with that much.

I think that's the first time I have ever heard of somebody wanting to refinish a pink guitar with the same color.
