Scottcrud Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 I like it. I always liked those Les Paul Custom SG's. If it only had EMG's...hehehe
tafkathundernotes Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 How about on a Sunburst? Here's a little memento from '86, IIRC: OK, that's one I wish I hadn't done. But it was the 80's and...well.... Who knew? It still sounds better than my guitarists Les Paul. I have it blocked and I crank the microtuners all the way down. I just tune it from the headstock like normal people do.
Brooks Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 i had a SG w/ a kahler. i'd post the pic of my 80's metal band w/ the SG but mc chris will make fun of me again. ahhh, phuck him, haha hey, i just realized that i used to have a hamer strap!!! forgot about that.
BCR Greg Posted February 24, 2006 Author Posted February 24, 2006 You are a big man to post that. Just to annoy Chris, I'll play....
tomteriffic Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Eeeh, no brick wall in either of those....
FrankieII Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 That Hamer letter is a classic example of guitar Mfrs endorsing the use of the Kahler over the Floyd to avoid giving business to the big competitor Kramer who owned the Floyd Rose, however, since the Floyd would require routing to the back of the body and drilling two holes through the mahogany neck, Paul may have felt that the Kahler would be a better choice than the Floyd in that case.
kenjones Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Ooh, ooh... I can play twice! Typed letter from Hamer: Old publicity photo:
JohnnyB Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 How about on a Sunburst? ... OK, that's one I wish I hadn't done. But it was the 80's and...well.... Who knew? It still sounds better than my guitarists Les Paul. I question whether installation of a Kahler causes much tone suck, though I suspect an '80s sustain block bridge would be a tough act to folow. My experience and sampling is very small (OK, one), but I played a checkerboard logo special with Kahler that had superb tone, and its clean tones were very woody and organic. Silly me passed on it at $379 (at MGR) because I was looking at the Kahler instead of listening to the tone. OTOH I played an all-original sustain block Special from the same era, and it didn't have near the tone that the Kahlerized one did. I don't attribute the difference to the Kahler, it's almost certainly due to the variations in wood and manufacturing variables.
HamerHokie Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Old publicity photo: Wow - John Cusack was in your band??
kenjones Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Wow - John Cusack was in your band??He loves the comparison to John Cusack BTW. He's now a radio DJ here in Houston:http://www.fmnewschannel975.com/images/savage.htm
Nuclear Wessel Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 From what I remember, the trem Kahler made that was designed to fit on TOM bridge guitars mounted to the existing posts for the bridge & tailpiece, but I think there was still a little routing necessary, so once you put one of those on, it's not like you could change back without an ugly gash remaining in the guitar.
Jack C Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 I think I once saw that blonde guy, Jeff Spicoli and Eric Stoltz take their shirts off at the All American Burger.
black magic Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Greg(BCR), which one is you in that picture? I wish I still had long hair :-( Jack.
