FS 2001 Gibson Custom Shop '57 Historic Goldtop - NOW SOLD

2001 Gibson Custom Shop ’57 Historic Gold Top. Pickups were replaced with Seth Lovers in both positions and all pots were replaced with RS Guitarworks pre-wired assembly. I think it’s the modern / vintage but it was a few years ago and I have forgotten. It sounds much better with the replaced assembly - the tone is much clearer and the tone pots have a better tonal sweep to them.

This ’57 has some unique features, most prominently being the neck carve. This does NOT have the huge baseball bat neck that most ‘57s have. It is slightly less than the carve Hamer was doing at the end of their run. It is also relatively light at 8 pounds, 7 oz. Finally, the top is tightly flamed from top to bottom and you can feel the flame as you move your fingers over the top. I hope you can see this in the photos. At 20 years old, the finish has “sunk” allowing you to feel the flame. It has a beautiful rosewood board and is a great player. It has a few bumps and dings. Nothing crazy and nothing fake. I would rate it 8:10. OHSC is structurally fine with a few scratches.

I just had my local luthier do a complete set-up and check-up. She’s good to go. This was my number one for years until I bought a PRS McCarty 594. I have bonded with the PRS shape and I’ve always preferred a double cutaway design. I am moving along some pieces that I don’t play enough to warrant keeping.

I have to net $2500 on this one. Based on current Reverb listings and sold listings the price is fair.

PM me if you  need any more details. I’m going to leave it here for a week then move it to Reverb at $3000.

That's a good deal on a nice guitar! Someone will snatch that up quickly!

Indeed.  A steal!

What's with the blocked out serial #. I've never understood that.

It's a stupid necessity, but in this day and age of Chibsons that look authentic, obscuring part of the serial prevents scammers from using a real picture of a real guitar's serial number in their fake/copy listings.

If real listings are using photos of obscured serial numbers why do you suppose scammers would prefer to use unobscured serial photos in their fake listings?

Exactly.
Obscuring the serial number doesn't stop or even slow Chinese fakes. I'm pretty sure they have all of the photos that they need of a Les Paul by now.
Obscuring the number makes it a little more difficult for some scammer claiming that the guitar you are selling was stolen from him because he had an R7 with serial number 7 12055 some time ago.
If you don't show the number, he can't invent some false claim.

Trade a Hamer Sunburst from 1981?

I'm sorry but I need the cash for this one. I should have posted that in my listing.

Then again, he'd need some sort of police report or other evidence of theft to back up the fraudulent claim...

Sure he would, but the seller may not know that.
Also, who needs the fucking aggravation?

Nah - it's pretty easy to block those scammers and move on.

Not everyone is as tuned into it as you are.
Remember, the Nigerian email scammers only have to hit their bullseye 1% of the time, and as dumb as you think the average person is, they're not nearly as smart as that.

After hearing arguments from both sides in the case of Serial Numbers v.  The World, I rule this guitar a good deal!

^^^  It really is.  Were he accepting trades I'd have thrown out some heavy artillery.  Sadly, I don't expect it to be here long enough for me to sell something off in order to fund it.

It’s a KILLER guitar and a solid deal.

Congrats on the sale!

This is, another example of how fine the McCarty 594s are. Another Lester re-homed.

We need pics of the 594 responsible for this.
