veatch Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Surprisingly, not many Hamers in it... https://www.guitarworld.com/amp/features/meet-the-owner-of-the-worlds-biggest-12-string-bass-collection
HamerCustomEr Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 As a 6'5" man, I was hoping for a super long scale 12er, not just a bunch of regular sized ones! I have this problem every time I see a sign for "Giant Bike Sale".

All but two, maybe 3-4, are garbage There are a total of four Hamers, according to the owner, but one is an import XT: Hamer B12L Fretless, Candy Blue (the first fretless 12-string bass) (L is for long, as this is clearly a right-handed model) Hamer CH-12, White Pearl; Whitehouse Deluxe, Transparent Black (what is Whitehouse Deluxe? Hamer B12S, Black with Custom Bogus Toms band logo Hamer CH-12XT, Black
stonge Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 if only he had the flametop B12L from the 1999 Hamer catalog. I wonder where that one is?

Also an import Hamer, MIK. The “Whitehouse Deluxe” is 100% something of his own invention and has zero to do with Hamer.
HAMERMAN Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Collection-wise mc2 could probably give him a run for his money!

Pretty sure they forgot to hit "enter" when making that article. The next bass is listed as "Waterstone Ozone, Natural", but the bass next to it is black, so it must be a different bass. I honestly have not heard of most of these brands, and they seem to just be importers. Honestly, not impressed.
cmatthes Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Me neither. The guy is a bit of a self-promoter. A few may remember him being behind stealing the content of the old 12stringbass.com when the owner/host got deployed to the Middle East and put it all on the 12stringbass.net site. There were also lots of giveaway features prizes that “disappeared”…

veatch Posted November 12, 2021 Author Posted November 12, 2021 Wow. Didn't realize I was picking at a scab here. : / Just saw an article on 12 stringers and assumed it would be loaded with Hamers. I was disappointed to see only a few in the collection. Given the background, it makes more sense.
Devnor Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Maybe its just the cynic in me but my guess is Musicvox paid for the article.

ebradfordrich Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 Meh. Seems kinda douche-y. "But the intimidation also extends to the other musicians in your band. If you’re with a guitarist who’s not real secure about himself, or has an overactive ego, they don’t want to have to compete with this great big instrument, which sounds monstrous. This hasn’t been my experience at all. Most of my guitarist friends are eager to take my 12er for a spin. Cue the Jeremy intro and a big, shit-eatin’ grin…

If I was a guitarist in a power trio, having a 12 string bass would be epic to hold the full sound, especially during solos...
RobB Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 I’d like to know more about the pictured Hiroshi Kid 12ver. Didn’t know such a thing existed.
