Wanted: 1x12 closed-back, front-ported cab (Unloaded)

A few years back @bubs_42 sold me a Hermida ported 1x12 that has become my favorite compact cab, and I'm in need of another.

I'm looking for something similar unloaded that will be getting an old EVM12L installed.  The Mesa stuff seems the most readily available; their compact Thiele cabs are a bit smaller than the Hermida cab; their widebody closed back 1x12 is a bit larger, but I don't have any experience with either.  First choices would be the Hermida type, or Glaswerks GW112TH.

Any help out there?

Are you handy? Plans for Thieles are readily available. I wanted a bit wider cabinet to match up with other cabinets and heads. What I did was add "wings" (extensions to either side) so as to make it wider without disturbing the precise dimensions designed to match the EVM.

This is not a perfect representation, as I made this one downsized to mate with a 10" speaker but you get the idea. I did the same thing with a 12", but no pictures handy.IMG_2264.JPGIMG_2266.JPG a 10"

I've thought of cobbling one together for sure- just looking to play something before the inevitable 6 months of repeatedly starting and pausing the project.

Thought about branching out and exploring the Forte 3D types you recently posted about, but I don't know how matched to a EVM they are, and you won't ship. 😄

FWIW, my favorite combination of TWO Forte 3D 1 x 12 cabinets is a stacked pair......Alnico Cream on top, EVM below. I think they both work great individually, but the pair are even better together.

ETA......The standard size of a 1 x 12 Forte is 22", so it works well with my heads.

@bubs_42 had a cab or two for sale a little bit ago. He had at least one 1x12 that I had thought about picking up. Check with him and see if he’s got something you’d like…

I grabbed one from him. Excellent.

The mesa Thiele cabs are definitely great cabinets, as are the widebody front ported ones. The Thiele was DESIGNED to work with the EVM-12L speakers, and that is what they originally came with. They are hard as hell to find used right now though, as with everything used.

Avatar speakers makes Forte Replicas for $499 loaded, though those are side ported I believe.

Annnd I just bought it.

Good get!

If you get a chance down the road, test out an Alnico Cream in it if you are looking for a well balanced vintage tone.

Both of my 1x12's are gone, but thanks for mentioning them.

…and I am totally digging @bubs_42’s Lamar oversized 1x12. It’s rocking a Red Fang alnico right now.

Oh wow, definitely curious on how it works out. I've been looking for some type of 1 x 12 to use with some lower wattage heads, or to stick under a 1x12 combo to give it some major OOMPH.

Tell that to my my friend, who does the occasional acoustic gig, about his TriAxxis, 2/90, 20/20, dual Thiele C-90, plus matching Bass combo, just sitting there unused for the last ten years.

First impression it's physically smaller than I imagined. It has a laid back presentation n comparison to a deep slot back cabinet stacked above it. The slotback is direct, in your face, whereas the Forte is a bit like the presence control has been backed off on the amp.

Weber 12F150 vs. a G12 Creamback FWIW.

Going to swap in Red Fang, ET-90, Delta Pro 12A.

Ooooooooo ET-90! I may have just found a home for this fukker. None of the reticence of the G12H. Excellent low volume tones. Smooth.

I swapped in 6V6s and there is plenty of there there. I think a low wattage amp would do just fine.

My Mk IVa has pretty much gone unused since 2018. I know if I sell this one I’ll never have another one, but they’re going for stupid money these days. Same for my Ludwig drum set.

Speaking of Mk IVs and Triaxis, one of the biggest amp mistakes I ever made was trading a Mk IV combo for a Triaxis and 50w tube power amp, then selling my two halfback 4x12s for two EVM-12L Thieles. It sounded nice and all, but meh.

Just a note on the ET-90: That is one killer speaker that does not get enough credit. If you (and I have) stick it next to the 100 Watt Black Hawk Alnico and A/B them you would have no problem saving your self the money and just being the ET-90. That was also the exactly what the guys at WGS will tell you. ;)
