The Shark Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 I want one of the tricked out models Rik Emmett used to play.

JGale Posted March 4, 2022 Author Posted March 4, 2022 This is how mine arrived. DmZ Air Norton bridge and two DmZ double bladed hbs. I remember it being very articulate and even across the neck. Perfect for metal. I kinda liked the setup, but there didn't seem to be much difference between the two single coils positions. Of course I had to fukwidit, so here it is with Carondelet; "Galebucker+" bridge and two "Classic Strat" single coils, and a KGC Big Brass Block. This the "stratiest" Pacifca I have, by which I mean positions #2 and #4 are the quackiest of the bunch. Bridge splits PP Tone. Neck single always on PP Volume. $450 seems a hella good price with no need to swap out pups. Offer hi $400 before I do ..
hamerhead Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 How are the necks on those, Jim? I can't do skinny/shallow any more. I've been looking for a 12-string with that set-up.
JGale Posted March 4, 2022 Author Posted March 4, 2022 Depends on the models but most of them are shallow C, pretty standard width. Nowhere near as skinny as my '82 Hamer Special. Edited to add: they are all 14" radius.
ARM OF HAMER Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Well Rick DID play a Pacifica 1412 for a bit. I owned this one and several others.
JGale Posted March 4, 2022 Author Posted March 4, 2022 1412s are on a whole 'nother level above Pacificas. I'd have one except they all seem to have Floyds.

I agree, I loved mine but I'm not much a of a TREM guy except for very subtle effects. Rich Lanser said he wanted to make HARDTAIL versions of the guitars [The Pacifica 1412 and 1421] as well but Yamaha said no. I owned several 1421 Pacificas as well, great guitars both, the necks are fantastic. One of the 1421 models I owned.
JGale Posted March 4, 2022 Author Posted March 4, 2022 Dear Mods. I am upset that I can only award ONE heart to the post above. Please modify the software specifically for me to allow unlimited heart awardification .😠
tomteriffic Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Had a number of Pacificas over the years and found that there wasn't a thing wrong with them that a set of pickups wouldn't fix. So I did. That's all done on this one. Somebody stop me.

And I'll add that the neck on my 300 series Strat-oid 12-string was waaay more playable than the ric 12's I've owned.

It's on the far right. Great playing 12 string electric guitar that stays in tune and is affordable. Guitar George
Biz Prof Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Those 1421s, 1412s, and Weddingtons were incredible MIJ guitars back when they were first released. Now...I need another guitar like I need a root canal or an anal fissure, but I've been tempted to pick up one of these as a do-all guitar for gigs. As much as I love trotting out my USA Hamers, I'd almost prefer to take a single, somewhat expendable guitar that covers all the bases. You know...less shit to haul around, no amp adjustment when switching guitars, no despondent grief if it got nicked. Found one with HSC on CL back in 2019 listed at the HFC-approved price, but I missed out on it by five minutes. Anyone here own on of these? https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PAC611VFMDRB--yamaha-pac611vfm-pacifica-electric-guitar-dark-red-burst
JGale Posted March 8, 2022 Author Posted March 8, 2022 ^^^^ I believe @Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame has or had one. He is certainly a proponent of them. I have not had a modern era Pacifica in my hands ...yet. The closest I come is Pacifica 812V. It has what I would say looks to be the closest match on the neck size. I'll post measurements soonsigetoffmyass. By way of ineffectual comparison, Cliff says the Maple topped 812 feels "tighter" than the 904, which has a thick ash cap and a humongous Warmoth neck 🥰. I would stay with the 611 vs. it's lower cost sibling 311 and watch Craigsplace and Everb.

JGale Posted March 9, 2022 Author Posted March 9, 2022 @Biz Prof the neck measurements on my 2006 Pacifica 812V are Nut 25.9mm thick, 41.8mm wide. 12th 23.8mm thick, 51.8mm wide. Front to back: 812V, 312-II, 904.
Biz Prof Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 Was the 904 the model that Hamer did assembly and set/up on in Arlington Heights via one-off contract with Yamaha?
JGale Posted March 9, 2022 Author Posted March 9, 2022 God. I hope not. The neck in profile looked like dragons teeth, said one Luthier.

Although, my "except" is that I haven't seen one under $2200 and they don't really play/sound any better than the PAC USA-2 I got for $1200, which itself really is matched by a PAC 611 VFM I got for $400, or the Warmoth builds I got for $600-800. It's worth the price if you gotta have one, I guess, but I've evolved to where playability and tone matters more than the name/pedigree.

I love the P-90 in the neck. Provides uber-strat neck tones. The Custom 5 (or is it Custom Custom) in the bridge is the perfect amount of nasty. Clear difference when split. Middle position has the right amount of quack, and it *also* sounds clearly different tapped or untapped. Neck is really comfy. Thin, but not wizard thin. Not necessarily the favorite neck of my guitars, but always just feels right when I grab it. My biggest problems with the 611 are: no stainless steel frets no ebony fretboard no scalloped fretboard. I've got one that I'm about to do the stainless steel frets and then hand scallop. It should end up being my PERFECT guitar.

I have a 611 HFM and VFM, but the VFM's coil tap broke, and a previous owner put a *gold* wilkinson trem on it. But it still sounds great, plays great, and trem stays in tune. I also have a PAC 612V, which is basically exactly the 604, just a few years newer. I don't play it at all. I've never touched a 904. I still have a PAC 921. One of my favorite trem guitars. Just plays fun and sounds great. I have a PAC USA-2 with vintage rails. Gives it a really unique strat sound. Not as SRV-ish as the PAC 611, but really nasal, and great quack. So having a difficult time trying to make myself sell it. And then I have a PAC 712. Trem stays in tune. REALLY thin/flat neck, so really fast. Pickups are American Dimarzios, which seem to be tuned more to country/twang/blues, but also works for crunch rock okay. One of my favorite guitars. As good as the PAC 611, just *different* in tone and feel. So, yeah, I highly recommend the PAC 611s. Wish they'd made some other fretboard options, but other than that, built like a tank and just how I like it. I've been looking for a PAC 502V Custom like Soren Anderson plays in the YouTube video, because it has stacked P-90s, wired so the "coil tap" instead switches between series and parallel, and I really love the tones he gets from it. But they didn't sell them in the US, and I have only seen them for sale overseas after I already missed the auction. I don't recommend the PAC 311s, tho. They sound okay, but just feel much more thick and clunky. The gap in playability and tone is much bigger than the gap in price. Only get a 311 for a kid just starting out who needs something bulletproof and doesn't know enough to be picky yet.
