LucSulla Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 This stuff is just cringey as hell to me. Like, can anything be less rock 'n' roll (or Merle and Waylon for that matter) than a branded fedora? https://www.brixton.com/collections/fender I'm not down on wearing a Marshall t-shirt or whatnot, but trying to sort out the intersection between casual, luxury, and hipster and then plopping your name on what ever that Venn diagram shits out and calling it a "collection" is just painful. And trust me, I get it, unfortunately. No way to explain why without inadvertently sounding pretentious to boot, but damn. Can't just a few dollars just be left in the ground un-drilled every now and then?
JGale Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 They have Fedoras .. Fedoras! As the NFL is so fond of pointing out .. "The Drip is n the Details". Boomshakalaka!

I don't care if you're tying to have some drip or tying to look tacticool, it's ridiculous. Maybe as ridiculous as the Fender Jaguar Fedora.

Anything for a buck, I guess, but who is buying this crap?

stonge Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 I remember showing up for a gig early on with the Irish band; one of the veterans told me "you need a cool hat - I got a bunch in my car go grab one". I politely declined as I don't wear hats in general and wouldn't look cool no matter what lid I bolted on. "That fedora looks cool AF on you but it ain't gonna work on my melon lol"

I was at a Slayer/Exodus/Suicidal Tendencies show in Oakland a few years back with my gig-buddy and Union sister, Melanie. Some douche with a fedora and Civil War beard was trying to chat her up (unsuccessfully, I might add…). She put the kibosh on this by saying, “I don’t talk to men in fedoras.” As the poor schmuck slinked away I sez to Mel, “have I told you lately that I love you?” ”Duh”, she responded.

But what if it had been the Brixton Fender Jaguar Celebration Fedora?

gtone Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 I don't have a problem with fedoras, per se, but branding them is tacky AF.
Steve Haynie Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Remember how Jerkowitz was going to make Gibson a lifestyle brand? That is what has been happening with Fender for a while. This Brixton deal is just part of it. Fedora or Homburg, pick one, is traditionally a hat that tops a suit. They have been business attire. Do you see a corporate logo on a suit? How about a bridal dress with a logo on it? At best, cowboy hat manufacturers will put a very small mark on a hat or hat band. Western shirts have giant logos to make the wearer look like a sponsored rodeo participant in a sort of "go big or go away" way. The hats are still not getting the Harley-Davidson/John Deere/Coca-Cola/NFL Team treatment yet.
crunchee Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 I'm still trying to figure what 'curated' means when it comes to people trying to sell me crap.

They don't come close at all to bringing up thoughts of Savile Row, that's for sure. Or Denmark Street, for that matter.

LucSulla Posted December 12, 2022 Author Posted December 12, 2022 I mean, if you're going to do it, at least do it with something that's cool and makes a kind of sense: https://www.alvies.com/pages/bfg-boots-billy-f-gibbons Although, in all honesty, Billy Gibbons is the only man on earth who I wouldn't give shit to for tucking his pants in his uppers.
scottcald Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 As much as I dig him and as cool of a player as Billy is, Jesus, I half expect to see Rev Billy G crypto ads soon.

Willie G. Moseley Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Around a year ago. a couple of youse identified the white chapeau in the publicity photo as a Greek fisherman's cap. Buchanan actually preferred English driving caps. (earlier picture of him and Fritz hanging out + photo with Guild guitar, which he never endorsed...and he didn't do an endorsement for either style of hat, either...)

Willie G. Moseley Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 And here's an example specifically targeted to the Deep South demographic! (not surprisingly, a hound's tooth version is also available...)
Steve Haynie Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 That's supposed to say "Press" not "Peavey."
