2022 serial number.
That is likely the last Ranger, if not one of the last Robins made before Dave Wintz's passing.
Robin Guitars has a new owner now, but that's another story for another day.

That one has a cool Keef/'70s Tele Custom vibe.

I usually don't like those, but dig that one a lot.

Yes, I know that the ad says 2001, but someone is mistaken.  I could be me, but I doubt it.

That is a 2022 serial number - no ifs, ands or buts about that.

Funny - I was thinking that the first thing I would do is put a white pickguard on it.

As long as it isn’t that gawdawful tort crap, I’ll allow it.  😉

is that considered a reverse headstock for a Robin?

It is reverse from the way they used to be when they were made at the Tokai factory, but outside of a few customs, they went to the "conventional" orientation when they moved production to Houston.

How dare you, sir!

Nice price. Wish it had the original case.

If that guitar is what I think it is, there were probably none left at the factory.
Anyway, that Fender case is what you want, if what you want for your guitar is security.  It's certainly worth more than a basic Robin case.

That is not much money, and if that's the backstory then very unlikely to depreciate.. one of you guys ought to give it a new home 🤔

Isnt that a fair amount of finish checking on the headstock for a ‘22 ??

No clue what old parts may have been laying around when Robin restarted production, but maybe a 2022 serial doesn't necessarily relate to what year the neck was made/finished.

Exactly right. There’s no telling when it was made, but Dave typically “serialized” his necks, when they were finished.  It certainly could have been knocked around the factory for a while, though.

Either way, that’s a 2022 serial number.   Every Robin fan here reading will agree.

Hopefully this isn’t a threadcrap but curious to know the story on the Robin Ranger linked below:

https://reverb.com/item/80313737-robin-ranger-made-in-texas-burst-finish-binding-and-case

It has what appears to be a USA neck however it also has the ‘back routed’ body and back of body pickup cover that the Japanese Robins feature.

@kizanski Do you suppose this is this a US neck on a Japanese body? Thanks in advance

Nope.  That’s an early Houston Robin.  1991 vintage.

Not really much blacker, but darker though!

With Made in Texas 1993 not quite as vintage, unfortunately.

I'm so confused.

I believe they started the top mount in '92. Of course, I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
Here's an old Ranger Custom I had.

Yeah, it really was...
Sick flame on the neck, bound body, ebony board... great player.

So, of course I sold it.

To cite the Robin website:

„Dating your Robin, by the way, should be a piece of cake. As a former vintage guy, Wintz knew to start his serial numbers with the date of manufacture.

The first serial number began with 88.“

I've dealt with that guy before on TGP. He's not a bad dude, probably just doesn't know as much as he should about it.

That's the impression I got as well.  I didn't mean to imply that he's doing anything shady.
It's just that he PM'd me to ask me to remove my first response to his thread because he didn't "want potential buyers mislead." by my statement - ironic since his FS post is inaccurate.
