  2. Jon Herington had that disconnected Tone control on his, was it Talladega?
  3. Regrettably, that bore remarkable similarity to me at work any time I am forced into "pocket-protector mode" (the euphemism we use when I am called out of my actual job to attend to tech support tedium). Conclusion: never should I ever attempt home recording!
  4. Never heard of it, but that's not surprising. The description sounds ideal: "The alnico-magnet Ruby 12" aims to combine a bit of heralded “chime” from Celestion’s popular alnico 15-watt Blue model with the vintage-rock attitude of its 90-watt alnico Cream model in a 35-watt unit for mid-powered combos." Sort of a kicked up Blue with higher power handling capability? Like I said, sounds ideal. From Premier Guitar's review: "With the Ruby, both amps lost a smidgen of volume, thump, and snappy articulation—a predictable result with a lower power rating and a softer-responding alnico magnet—but they also gained a more forgiving feel and some lovely natural compression. This instantly made both combos not only sound more “classic” and broken-in, but also imbued settings that had previously seemed either lackluster or strident with lustrous new life. Put another way, the Ruby mellowed each amp a tad, but there was still plenty of growl and zing—and I never encountered any of the grating, overwhelmed-sounding harshness that many alnico-magnet speakers get when pushed hard." 6. Except for the hairstyle, that seems very familiar!
  7. My issue w/Julien's now is that their proof requirements have gotten more extensive and I have to basically start from ground zero if I want to bid again, and I've won at least one auction from them in the past. Their shipping is high, but the stuff comes packed well. I knew that the shipping was a bit higher, and I knew what the buyer's fee was, but I may have neglected to communicate that to my wife, who was a tad less than happy when she saw the final cost.
  8. But is the Super 7 1.2 really different than the Super 7 Sugar? I know, one is black and the other is white. IME that doesn't always make them sound different.
  9. LIke New, I purchased it to try in an amp and give Alnico another run. I’m still a Ceramic Guy if guess. NO rips, Tears, Dings, Cone Noise, its like new. $215 Shipping and Paypal included in the lower 48.
  10. Ribs break... The man makes plans to write a book and go to a guitar show. Willie G. Moseley is the Chuck Norris of guitar journalists!
  11. Way too many drive options. Now I see Lovepedal running a "sale" on a Super 7....."One better than a Super 6". The Super 6 being the Super Reverb on six, sometimes called the "SRV" setting. Get those tubes cooking without earsplitting volume. FWIW, I really like that pedal with a boost in front for added flexibility on the fly. Yeah, I am a sucker.......
  12. Oh no!.. praying for a speedy recovery on both the ribs and the parkinson's issue 🙏
  13. On Thurs. 8 OCT I fell in a Walmart parking lot due to a Parkinson's balance issue. Broke three ribs. The medical folks recuperation will be long and slow, and this particular injury hurts like hell 'coz your ribs move when you're breathing. I can feel the broken ones (6, 7 and 8 ) grinding against eajch other deep inside. Should be back in action, if not 100%, around the first of the year.Therapy is basically taking it easy until ribs heal. I've got another "nostalgia" book in the works that should keep me busy. Been invited to the Rocket City guitar show in early Feb. and will try to make that venue since it's a first of its kind event,
  14. Koch Blog - I like the name. Spelled a little differently.
  15. The red and yellow Sunbursts would be fun to have around. It would also be nice to get the Fender combo that could be seen on the side of the stage years ago.
  16. A Vector with a Kahler was briefly in my possession. There was a need to try out that type of trem, and it was fine. Floyds can float a little smoother, but overall the Kahler never seemed off-putting to me. I never really bond with locking tremelo bridges.
  17. I've only owned the Kahler type tremolo on my Proto II. I've played other trems but never owned a guitar with one. I like the Kahler just fine. Was easy to find some parts for it about 10 years ago. Not big in to dive bomb stuff but when I've used it it has worked well.
  18. Or stack an SD-1 and a TS-9 🤷‍♂️ It’s a fkn joke how people are being conned by boo-teak bull5h1t. The most ‘extravagant’ OD I have is a Tumnus Deluxe which tbh I hardly use over my standard stuff. I get it: I collect drive pedals myself. I got 3 x Stone Deaf distortions and many other drive pedals but I think this pedal hype has gotten out of hand…
  19. Power Distribution... Because both speakers have the same resistance, the amplifier splits the incoming power equally between them (50% to each speaker) regardless of series or parallel wiring...
  20. Not sure how familiar you are with Cheap Trick or how bidding at an auction house works, but from your post, I'm assuming you have a limited knowledge of either! Rick really has no financial worries, and could have retired years ago and lived off the songwriting income alone. Rick also didn't fire Bun E. (not "Bunny"). Bun had been having worsening health issues that limited the band's ability to tour beyond limited/short opening sets, and tensions between he and Robin Zander finally came to a head 16-17 years ago and he was then replaced as touring drummer (and eventually performing member) by Rick's son, Daxx, who had filled in for Bun E. many times over the years before things came to a head. Bun is still a 25% co-owner and business partner and he shares the income the band generates without making a single drum hit. Band litigation got kind of ugly for 3-4 years, but appears to be settled and they've moved along by now. It is unfortunate, and got ugly, but that was settled a decade and a half ago, when they went their separate ways (except for the RNRHOF induction show in Brooklyn in 2016 where Bun played 4 songs with the band). As far as auctions go, there is nothing resembling a trick here. If you haven't participated in an online pre-auction like this or sat in an auction house (I have in the past and successfully bid on a guitar), everything that Julien's is doing is exactly how it's always done. You ALWAYS have to show extensive proof of who you are and that you have the ability to pay for an item and the house premium if you throw a successful winning bid. This is to protect the auction house as well as serious bidders from scam or shill bidders as well as to keep things fair by fully verifying and vetting prospective bidders. It's not eBay! House premiums can range from 24-28% at most places and those are tacked onto the hammer price, as well as any additional fees, taxes and shipping costs that get added in after the fact. These celeb auctions are not for the faint of heart...or wallet, typically. I just watched the entire Johnny Marr Christie's auction a few weeks ago, which was far more significant than this one. It had a 350 page bound, lavishly-illustrated top-quality book available, and was heavily promoted by displays in NYC and London beforehand. That raised close to $5M, which was 3 times the pre-sale estimate. As far as the guitars, #0004 is honestly in pretty rough shape, which is likely why it was retired from touring nearly 40 years ago - the fingerboard is separated from the neck at the first few frets and it will require some work to get it back up and running condition (according to Mike Adams, the guitar tech who prepped the instruments for this auction). Rick also has displayed most of his extensive collection of guitars and personal/band memorabilia for fans to check out in person via several museum exhibitions over the last few decades, and now has many choice pieces on permanent display at the HRC Casino in Rockford. Nothing (guitar-wise) I've seen in the auction is what I'd consider Rick's "keepers". There are some cool guitars, but nothing I'd consider "iconic" apart from #0004, and there are only a few things I really would have dug - the Red and Yellow Sunbursts, a Lonnie Mack V, the '65 SG, '81 Explorer, the "One on One" Standard, and the '84 LP XPL. Maybe the #000 of 000 Korina RN model, which DOESN'T have the ORIGINAL checkerboard case despite what the auction copy says, because that case has been sitting in my basement since December, 1998. Trust me, he's not letting any of his really good stuff go here, and he still has a shit-ton more lying around and in the vaults...
  21. Are the speakers wired in series, or in parallel? That will affect output too. You might want to read this: Koch Blog - Koch Amps
  22. I had joined the anti kahler group in the 90s, from what I was told locally but with no real hands-on experience. I bought a Proto ii about 20 years ago for 'far too cheap to pass up' that has a Kahler, and as I started spending more time with it I have grown to appreciate it. I have almost nothing negative to say about the kahler, my only complaint is that the fine tuners could be a finer pitch thread. A plus is that they still (in my case anyway) use a standard nut and it's easy to get the nut slots down to the proper height and angles compared to a floyd. Those are all I can think of, I've never had to repair or find parts, - that might be tricky, but I suppose it's a 'plus' that I haven't had to.
  23. I have a couple of Cruise basses. I also have a pair of indigo blue Monacos, one a bass and the other an elite (and an indigo T51). Outside of Hamers, I have a sextet of Peavey Razers.
  24. This thread made me realize something. I only take solo photos of guitars. But I do have one. Hat tip to our own Greg Platzer. I still have the tobacco one.
