Reminds of seeing a show at, of all places, a theater in Beverly Hills long ago. The 3 featured players were Lonnie Mack (with that crazy V) , Roy Buchanan and Dickie Betts (sans Allmans). Buchanan came out with his Tele and had a Twin Reverb sitting on a folding metal chair. Pretty much did the same thing. Nothing fancy. Tele straight into the Twin. Set everything on max and started playing. In his fashion, screaming treble and feedback, much playing past the treble end of the fingerboard. That tone and volume just cut right through you! My wife and many others made a trip to the bathroom and came back with as much TP as they could...Shoved in their ears with the ends hanging out over their shoulders.

In '83 I saw the Ramones at Boston College. Somehow, our group managed to get right up against the stage - my left hip pressed against the structure. I could almost touch Johnny's amps with my outstretched arm. Johnny's guitar tech came out, clicked on the Marshalls, picked up the Mosrite and dimed every control. He bashed out 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 A chords, rolled the volume back down to zero and walked off to a round of applause. I spied the stranger to my left blowing her nose, so I bummed a tissue from her and shoved a wad of it in my left ear. Probably the smartest, most mature thing 17 year old me ever did.

I saw the same show in Bethel NY (ie Woodstock) The Doobies were great, my first time seeing them. Their set list was exactly what you would hope! They have not lost a step either vocally or instrumentally Santana was great, but no where near the player he once was. Yes I am being hypercritical. The drummer ,his wife, was a force onto herself, incredible! His set list was also what you would hope for. Carlos played a single cut PRS the whole night. I wonder why the change? Having seen Carlos before I was excited to see him, but as you can tell a little disappointed. Everyone I was with thought he was great. I enjoyed the entire show tremendously, but since it was Woodstock it had to rain and the Doobies had to cut their set list short. arniez

Eric Gales is doing a tour with Billy Sheehan and Dennis Chambers as GCS. Here’s some mind-blowing news for you: Eric Gales, Dennis Chambers, and Billy Sheehan are teaming up for a supergroup power trio called GCS. Although details are still emerging, we’ve found their initial tour dates. GCS will hit the road starting October 29th in Hopewell, Virginia at the Beacon Theatre. They’ll head north into Maryland and then to Connecticut before sweeping from the Mid-Atlantic into the Midwest. According to Chambers’ website, the two-week run will conclude on November 15th at Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati, Ohio. Each member of GCS is a master of their instrument and has performed at the highest levels in genres from blues to jazz fusion to rock. Though they come from different backgrounds, the trio is united in their versatility and musicality. “Together, they form a rare lineup where every player can lead, listen, and push the music into new territory,” a gig description explains. “The sound of GCS won’t be confined to one category. It will draw from the full range of their musical lives, moving from heavy blues and hard rock to deep funk, soul, and jazz fusion, with room for fearless improvisation and the kind of live interplay that only players of this caliber can deliver. Three legends, three unmistakable musical forces, one stage.” Sheehan and Chambers have a long history of playing together in the band Niacin with keyboardist John Novello. In a 2013 interview with For Bass Players Only, the bassist named Chambers as his favorite drummer. “To me, he’s the greatest musician I know on any instrument,” he said. “I’m a better bass player because of Dennis Chambers, that’s for sure. The world is a better place because of Dennis Chambers.” We’re looking forward to the GCS tour, and we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available. Congratulations on the sale. And thanks for pushing him into semi-hollow land. I have #71 and was originally told "no" to a semi-hollow. I relented, then Mike came back and said "people" have been bugging him about it so I could go ahead with my original plan. It's still the guitar with the biggest neck I own - and it's lovely!

Time stops for noone. The fact that I can see this in 2026 is heartwarming. Too bad that Jon Lord isn't still with us. It wasn't perfect, but who cares. Long live Deep Purple!

Well, that’s close. I bought the guitar at a pawn shop in Jacksonville Florida in December 1982. I was informed that it had been pawned by Dave Hlubek after I had paid for it. I had bought two of his guitars. A few months later, it was confirmed by Hamer that the guitar had been made for Michael Schenker and they did not know where it had disappeared to. Not long after that I ran into Dave at a bar in Jacksonville called playground south. He admitted the guitars were his and that he pawned them and he didn’t care for them. Just guitars. The guitar the V had been a gift from Michael to him when they toured together because Dave was a Hamer guitar player. Michael had taken a deal from Gibson by then. That was the spring of 1983 when I met him. In the spring of 1986 I met Banner Thomas. He was working at American Music in Jacksonville. I kind of got excited about meeting him and talking with him and allowed myself to be talked into trading the V for a Music Man HD 120 2-12. Great amp but to much for me at the time. Last time I saw the V it was in another guitar shop on the south side of Jacksonville and that was 1992 and by then someone had put a Floyd in it, which was horrible to see, and by the time I went back a week later to buy it and try to resurrect it it was gone. I wish I had put a deposit down, but I had no money the week before when I saw it. It still had the paint job, but it was Floyded. I’m gonna figure that some sailor, because Jacksonville has such a large population with three different naval stations, that some sailor bought it and moved away back home and it’s under somebody’s bed or in a closet in the Midwest, northwest, somewhere, someplace. Serial number was 0415. 😎👍❤️🏁
