BubbaVO Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Got home tonight. Crappy Monday. Tired. Wolfed down dinner. Gave the kids a bath and put 'em in bed. "Honey," the Queen motions to me "if you come to the bedroom I'll give a little sumptin' sumptin'." I've got 5 kids. I know what "sumptin' sumptin'" is and me likes it. So I get up stairs and lo and behold... My eyes got wide open when I saw that! I hadn't gotten an e-mail saying it was coming. I couldn't believe it was here. I carefully opened it up. Fresh case. Black as night. No scrapes. Gold Hamer lettering intact. Buckles are clean - no corrosion or fading. Oh yeah! There's even a little creak as I open it. That sweet smell of laquer wafts from the case. This is almost too hot for me to handle. Wow. Is there such a thing as too flamey? Hay Caramba! What a great guitar. Thick chunky neck at the lower end of the scale that tapers to a v at the top of the scale. It's lighter than the archtop studio custom. Very comfy sitting down or standing up. Tuners look cool. Plugging it in. Wow. This guitar is perfect. The array of tones are varied. Lower tones are distinct from the upper tones. With the archtop and even the beloved DT, notes would fade out or get mashed together. Not with this. You could play a bass line and a melody without losing either one. Picking technique will make a big difference in how it plays. You just gotta go and play one. Better yet, get one. Nits to pick... just cuz: 1) The man who sold it to me said it was a jazz burst and it clearly is the Amber Burst. 2) Not crazy about the beluga whale head that is on one side of the guitar. 3) I thought they all came with frets over the neck binding. I feel like a little kid again. I'm just grinning from ear to ear. Sorry if this is just going on and on, but if anyone would understand it's you guys.
