They have a "natural burst" finish which is gorgeous, and not far removed from amberburst. The multi-ply binding and nickel hardware finish it off nicely. They pop up for sale from time to time (but mine is staying put in my closet).-Jonathan

Mindseyes Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Brazilian - GuruDave:Funny you should ask!That is a sweet looking finger board!!!!DROOLLLLLLLL...........
bubbagomez Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 So I've been noticing some things. When I watched the dvd they mentioned the importance of the fingerboard being straight-grained as well. Well, I'm seen lots of pictures of very popular fancy guitars with brazilian fingerboards and the grain is almost always anything but straight! Much of it is very swirly. Sure it looks nice and fancy, but it seems to make sense to me that straight-grained wood is better, structurally. Anyway, the point of this is that once again, I am thoroughly AMAZED by Hamer. Good on them!
Scooter Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 IIRC, the coloring can be "swirly", but the grain itself is straight.
zbeluhan Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I have a custom ordered vector with a straight grained brazilian rosewood fingerboard. It does not look spectacular but i've noticed that the brazilian rw adds a certain growl to the sound which seems very nice to me. I would highly recommend br if you can afford it. The price for brazilian rosewood is close to the price of gold.
Wordupperman Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 My guess is that a lot of the Brazilian is stump wood at this point and isn't very straight. It's pretty slim pickings for that stuff, so builders may be using whatever they can get their hands on.

Lots of high-end makers charging a premium for the stuff and it keeps getting lighter and swirlier.

bubbagomez Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 So I was reading on the birds and moons forum about the prs modern eagle guitars being discontinued. There's talk that brazilian rosewood is really going away this time. That's unfortunate, for sure!
cmatthes Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 PRS still has a HUGE amount of it - may be of varying quality, but they bought up a lot of it over the years. I can't see them putting it on every other special edition that comes out though. They'll need to save that for the PS customers...

No Brazilian on Private Stocks unless the order was confirmed before 12/8/07. Not even fretboards. "
cmatthes Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I've seen the stacks of it myself, but who knows how much of that is "spoken for". I suspect that Paul and company are more than aware of the shortage overall and probably want to stockpile some against future orders/runs (??). Talking to one factory guy though, it seems like EVERYBODY has been asking for Brazilian something on their PS orders for the last few years...
DavidE Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 So my Taylor 714BCE with a 2 piece Brazilian back and sides will be worth a fortune soon? ;-)

It's pretty slim pickings for that stuff, so builders may be using whatever they can get their hands on.from what i've seen i would agree on that... but i will say that, i currently have 4 brazilian hamers that have excellent boards on them... and one of them (special k) is just gorgeous... very dark with pink'ish streaks. the others are still incredibly nice though (2 triple threats and a redwood ltd).
serial Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 along with all the 60's-70's era $200 Gianini's Really? My early 70s Gianinni (the odd-shaped one) has Braz rosewood? I'll have to check that one out again!
