QOTSA are on SNL this weekend. If he breaks out one of those, the going price could be a lock for a little while longer!

In the words of Elduave to Ted... "Take it easy on me..." Actually, LRB is not MY "guilty pleasure", but that cracks me up every time I hear it. I'm more apt to admit to dropping cheezy 70s pop stuff in every now and then (Bay City Rollers, Stevie Wonder, ABBA, etc.), but that's more for kicks and to make my lovely wife happy. Every now and then, some real 70s funk/disco comes on VH-1 Classics and it KILLS me. Still think that Hot Chocolate's "Every 1's a Winner" has an unbelievable riff!

Where to rock stars get their clothes?
cmatthes replied to Abaco's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
We went with a "Favorite Foods" theme last weekend. Carlos - Vintage Krispy Kreme t-shirt Elduave - Cool-assed Wonka Bar t-shirt Me - Natty Boh t-shirt (beer is like food, right?) Not sure if our drummer, DA, got the band memo - he wore a vintage Intellivision shirt with the "running man" icon. Very few people got that, but we had a few astute people out there... Try www.tshirtsthatsuck.com - always a few gems there! Edited to add that we don't think we're rock stars, by the way. -
"Tobeeeeeeeee!!! I am the ghost of Mary James..... DO NOT REFINISH MY BASS!!!!!!!!

Good LORD, NO!!! Of course, it's yours, so do whatever makes you happy. Just because I wouldn't do it, or because 75%, 80%, 99.9% of the HFC would tell you not to, shouldn't alter your decision. But you'd be crazy to change that finish! (ha ha!!)
-
Sorry! I thought you were looking for top-only options! You will not go wrong with a Newport in pretty much ANY color.
-
Sadly, and VERY Sadly indeed, they are no longer doing sparkle finishes nor finishes with sparkle in them. No pearls either, from what I've heard - directly from the source... That may change, but that's the scoop. The good news is that it helps narrow down your choices!

I picked up a GORGEOUS '91 that was custom ordered (has the guy's signature underneath the finish on the headstock!), Gold Floyd, unbound ebony board/dots, Unbelievable Ultimate top on what was then '59 burst (similar to the "Cognac Burst") over a cherry back. Minty, and only $600 out the door. Picked up a Black '79 Standard w/crowns at the same place for under $500 shortly afterwards, so I guess that wasn't that great of a deal, eh?! Those are really great guitars.

She made the rounds on all the late night talk shows late last year. Pretty entertaining competition from what I saw.

GG: That's a Set Neck, not a Neck thru. Very cool Chap though!
-
Tobe: Hint... Buy it "For HER"
-
Sustainiac, baby! One switch powers the neck pickup sustainer (like an E-bow). I believe the second switch is for shooting roman candles off the back of the headstock. Hamer really fought THAT mod, but Mobbie is a persistent Fv><#r!!!

HAMER sightings @ Cheap Trick gig
cmatthes replied to Kilroy is all about...'s topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Nope - You're talking about a Fiesta Red Custom Shop Tele - I've actually checked that one out in person. Same specs as the Kiz posted one, but definitely not as cool, nor as lovingly crafted!! -

Wait a minute! You never said anything about Baseball Cards! Seriously, that is a cool tale, and sounds like a mighty cool conversation with a lot of potential from "Da Man". Well done, sir. -
F/S: Hamer Chap Custom 1-Off
cmatthes replied to black magic's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Jack, I know those are tough to find, but what makes this a "one-off"? It sounds just like the catalog description for the bound/flametop version. Just curious... -
I will only buy used from Saxon going forward! (At least I know his stuff is going to be well cared for!) Actually, you CAN still get deals from GC/MF if you know how to negotiate with them. I'd prefer to support my favorite dealer no matter what, but if I needed something he didn't carry (and for some strange reason couldn't get, which would be rare), I'd probably consider at least checking out "the Evil Empire", because I refuse to get gouged or taken advantage of - my money is earned the hard way too, ya know!
-
I don't know, Mike. I think TJ's girl beats out both of those two.

is it cool..?
cmatthes replied to copper blue's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
ABSOLUTELY cool to sell Hamers, non-Hamers, amps, pedals, strings, picks, pics, CDs...whatever. -
Not me! That's not something I'm necessarily proud of, but have spend a good amount of time here since '97!!
-
Hey Poe - that is a threat that scares me too. Here's what you have to do... Go HERE: Hamer Fan Club Message Center -> Members Email Address FIND THIS: Send an email to hikarateboy ENTER: Subject & Message (say something like, "HELP! NO Outer Circle Access. Will show my ass in 5...4...3...2...!!!!) HIT SEND/SUBMIT Posting here ain't gonna do it, because he doesn't always check the board 24/7!!

How does Hamer compare to PRS, your opinion
cmatthes replied to Brownsound's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Kiz - if you want to install some PRS birds on that Mirage, let me know - I've got several full factory sets!! Here's my 80s Custom - I've had it for 15 years and this is the one I'll never sell. I've said that about many guitars, but this one feels right, plays great and even has its own smell - and not in a bad way! Lousy pic below: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/cmat...0sPRSCustom.jpg I have been through the PRS factory enough times to know that I like the Hamer approach to things better - I've got some reject/bandsawed PRS body castoffs, and believe me, they toss away more of those daily than Hamer does in a quarter! I'm not knocking PRS at all - I think they are fantastic guitars, Paul is a visionary in the guitar world, and they make some classics. I'm not too crazy about the newer stuff, not because of the BS about the "heel from hell" (which I think was made up by an Internet retailer so he could sell more of his own guitars - everybody buys into that kind of hype too easily!), but because they are missing something to me. It might be because I see more of those than Strats anymore, who knows? Hamers and PRS are two different animals - I personally prefer the consistency, design, feel and attitude that Hamer puts out.
