  1. The sale pitch for the CAE sounds promising, but all new wah's I've tried sounds to "new" for me. They don't have that true vintage "whack". I don't want my wah to sound to hifi, I want it sweet and Shafty. My referenses are Curtis Mayfield, 1970's Thin Lizzy - Robertson era etc. I bought an old Colorsound wah from the 70's a few months ago and it's just killer sounding, just right - and with a fairly long sweep. I would not say "It's built like a tank" though. But with a little tlc it will last me forever.
  2. Cool, he seems like a great guy. Fill us in on the silly stuff
  3. Great choice, one of the best riffs of all time. Together with Satisfaction by the Stones.
  4. Motorcycle Emptiness by The Manic Street Preachers - Just a killer riff/melody hook. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YckDspM1AUw And of course Welcome to the joungle comes to mind. That riff blew me away when I first heard GnR on the radio.
  5. The federal government banned them in 1988. Here's a reminder to destroy them if you have some: http://www.cpsc.gov/CPSCPUB/PREREL/PRHTML97/97122.html Or you could do the smart thing and not let little kids play with them. Or you can do the smart thing at the your neighbours kids play with them, if you find them noisy and annoying.
  6. love that cramps , god bless lux............... Actually, I think it was Satan that blessed him. Lol. He was the coolest. In my expensive HDCD player, which I can find no new HDCD´s for, the following discs recently got a spin: The Cure - 4:13 Dream My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult - The filthiest show in town (no more the Cramps, but MLWTTKK fills some of the void). Betty Davis - Is it love or desire Sly Stone - Ain't but the way Whitney Houston - I look at you Alicia Keys - the Element of freedom Bad Lieutenant - Never cry another tear Monaco - Music for pleasure Joy Division - Complete BBC recordings Gov't Mule - By a thread Lloyd Cole - Cleaning out the ashtrays Donkeyboy - Caught in A life
  7. Repeat after me six times. You. Can. Do. It. . . . . . . Looking forward to the development on this thread.
  8. Yeah, but that Blitz did not only get a stadium logo, the whole guitar got "stadiumsized". Didn't work out, so they cancelled the idea after that.
  9. Yeah, the Lead 12 might sound good miked in certain situations. But other than that it has become a myth around this amp. It is a solid state and it sounds like a solid state, but with the right Marshall flavour. But right now, 2010, there are many small non tube amps that sound a lot better. The Lead 12 might be worth around 50 bucks, but when prices start to go up because of the hype, then it's getting silly.
  10. I discovered ZZ-top when I was 14. We were out in this cabin house, the guys in the band I was in back then, and had some bottles of alcohol with us that we had stole from our parents. That Eliminator album played on the cassette boom box all night, I got extremely drunk and threw up in the morning. It was a totally weird experience. Then I liked the Eleminator album for about a year so. When the follow up came I started to hate that sound. I did not really listen to ZZ top again properly until about three years ago. Now I have picked up all their albums up until Eleminator on vinyl. I also got that Double Down DVD for x-mas. It's pretty great! Edit; Billy must have used a Legend Super Lead 50W 1x12 amp then.
  11. OUCH!!! I. Want. That. Guitar. Gorgeous!
  12. A good refret should not affect resale that much unless the guitar is 100% mint otherwise. Changing the frets is just regular maintenance.
  13. WTF! What kinda idiots are these people. They should just sell him the brand back. edit; I can hear the conversation they had, Jol You can not do this to my company, Fender rep Your company! We own Hamer. Here is a cardboard box, you have 20 minutes to clear your office, then you will be escorted out of the building. Exit, thank you - and goodbye. F*ckers!
  14. I wish I had the dough to put down a custom order right now. All I can say is, "hang in there", to Jol and they guys. I am pretty sure as time passes Hamer guitars will be just as appreciated as, let's say, what a Gibson 58 JR, is today. It was not to long ago these guitars could be had for very little. Good quality will pay of in time.
  15. I want a tele in solid gold. Or better, make it a Les paul. But it has to be gold, and SOLID Great looking guitar, btw!
  16. Marshall JTM50 combo from 1973 Marshall JMP 2104 combo from 1984 Fender Rivera Super champ 1982 (or so) Fender Rivera Deluxe Reverb II 1984 (or so) I love tubes. But then again, for clean there are some very nice solid state amps out there. Roland Jazzchorus for one, and I was very close to buying an old Yamaha solid state with 2x12 alnico speakers that had been a studio amp at the Swedish National Radio (eqiovalent to the BBC). That amp had a jazz tone to die for. Modelling amps of any kind is something I really hate playing. But I must say that I have been fooled many times when these type of amps have been used in the mix. A good player can make them sound "real", and on record it is often pretty impossible to tell them apart from the real thing.
  17. Congrats. How much do these usually sell for?
  18. Remember the successful and drool-inducing "Modern Vintage" ads? Yep, black background behind the headstock. How conveeeeeenient... I seriously doubt that those photographs were taken that way to conceal the Hamer headstock. That would be a conspiracy theory equal to believeing Elvis or Curt Cobain is still alive. If Hamer did not like the headstocks they would have changed them long ago. They decided not to use the six on one side 80's headstock, they decided not to use stadium logos. They would change that headstock in a minute if they believed it would sell more guitars, believe me. Hamer likes that headstock. And, btw, that is a cool shot. Jol likes photography and there was a story posted somewhere about how that photo was taken. I believe it was on Jol's blog when he talked about how he got that Bluesbreaker.
  19. The Hamer headstock looks great. It has a total bad ass rock n roll design. Simple but elegant. Now this is an ugly headstock. It looks undersized and has so little rock n roll in it's design. I can see why Fred Durst would play something like this, and that guy with the saloon trimmed beard from Janes Addiction. It's a gay mans design (no offence, I have a lot of gay friends, but none of them are in to rock n roll).
  20. Don't drop the dispute. I don¨t remember for how long you can claim a dispute on paypal? Is it eight or twelve weeks or so? After that you are screwed.
  21. I am with you 100%. But gearpage people need someone to hype that mojo up first.
  22. This is just typical Gear Page. I can see why they get all hyped up about a Danocaster. It looks like a vintage guitar, and therefore must be just as good, right That worn look has MOOOOJOOOO, the Taladega looks shiny new, it can have no mojo. Mojo needs to be put in first. Can someone call the witchdoctor. We need som mojo in here.
  23. Bootsy Collins perhaps. He is a cool cat. I wonder what Geddy Lee sounds like talking. "I wonder 'bout the voice of Geddy Lee", pavement, lol.
  24. Plus one on Levon Helm, great record. If you like that do check out this compilation of Louie and the Lovers release by German label Bear Family (they release such excellent stuff all the time...!) Amazon link Right now in the CD player, an album by RJD2, The Horror . if you like DJ Shadow you'll like this The new Gov't Mule album. A lost record by the genious Betty Davis, (Miles Davis ex. wife). Larry Grahams band plays on this album. And still digging the new Black Crowes album on vinyl. I also bought the soundgrack to the TV series "Heroes" as it includes a new song by The Jesus & Mary Chain. I am spending my hope for a new J&MC album in 2010. I also found a download of that non released album by Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse and David Lynch that is quite cool actually. In the car yesterday I played Chinse Democrasy by GnR. This album has grown, I like it, except for to many meedly mee solos.
