  2. You know that now you have an option to put a Floyd on that thing, right! . . . . . . someone had to say it.
  3. Perhaps the reason is that the formula was impossible to repeat one more time. The first album was okay, the rest sounded pretty much the same.
  4. FWIW, that's not exactly how they word it. It's: "The last of the remaining warehoused Hamer's are here." Which to me, means they had something to say and hype, but they gave it thought and used words that *wouldn't* make it sound like "these are the last Hamer's ever". Yes, on their front page that is. And that is good. But clicketycklick on the link http://www.willcuttguitars.com/the-last-hamer-guitars And it says : "The Last USA Hamer Guitars (38) You Are Here >> The Last USA Hamer Guitars " FCUK, a new Steve Stevens II being made right now. How cooool is that. Back to the glory of the 80's I want a full tone report on that one. Pics down to the last detail, and I also want you to play Polk salad Annie on it and send a youtube link. SSII cheez, who woulda thought.... Great news.
  5. I surfed in at Willcutts and saw this "The Last USA Hamer Guitars (39)" on their site. I hope it means their stock items. They will still take custom orders and be a Hamer dealer, right? What have been orderas as of lately by the folks on this board? Post pics and let us know what is cookin´. The workshop blog has not been updated as of lately. I want to see some new wonders!
  6. I bought a bunch of kryo-treated tubes in the last batch I ordered. I must say that the preamtubes sounds stunningly good. I have tried a new reissue Mullard, a Sovted and a Tung Sol. If it's humbug or a factor that makes a difference I don't know, could be that the tubes are carefully chosen too - but they sound better than the non kryo versions I have tried of these tubes. Could be something worth trying for those, like me, who are tired of spending big bucks on NOS tubes and finding them go microphonic in my combo amps after just a few months of use.
  7. I hope its not that bad. WFT? I think Chinese Democracy is a killer album. Great songs, arrangments, mixing and mastering. It really grows, took a while to get into it. Now I think it's a classic.
  8. I run old RCA blackplates in my DRII. It came with TAD's when I bought it and they were great sounding too. If i would need to buy a new pair I'd buy them over a set of NOS, they are good enough in the "price vs. what you get" equation. In my super champ I have a pair of old Raytheon 6V6's. Those are my personal favourites. So much warmth to them. I like them better than the RCA's. But that is just me Try the TAD's. I think you will be surprised how good they sound. And even if they don't last as long as a pair old old tubes, you can easily afford to replace them once a year - or so.
  9. Well there is the story about the 4-digit Standard... I was up north skiing and a friend called me when im in the slope, said there was an old Hamer for sale on the internet. Local sale. When I came back to town, like a week later, the ad was still up so I shot the guy an email with some questions. I didn't have the cash he was asking so I could not buy it then. It didnt sell and one or two months later I mailed him an offer, about a two thirds of what he was asking. He declined the offer. I mailed him again after another couple of months, he still decleined backing down on the price. Then I kinda forgot about the guitar for a while. I think the ad was up for about seven, eight months, then I saw it again. I sent him another email asking him if he would go down some on the price, I had some cash then and thought I could pay more than I had first offered. He declined backing down on the price again. Then about a year after I first heard about the guitar I got a mail from the guy. He seemed in need of cash quickly. I was offered to buy it at a lower price. We sent some mails back and forth and suddenly he was ready to sell for what I first had offered. Swell. I got a 1979 Standard! This was perhaps seven years ago. I don't think an old Hamer up for sale would last more than a week now. The word has spread.
  10. I think it warried regarding to which year your SS was made. I had an early SS1 with a slammer in the 9-10K range. My 1989 SSII has a Slammer that has an output around 16,64K, and I am pretty sure the later SS1's I've tried had hotter pups too. Edit; Do try both and let us know which one sounds best. I am curious about the 10K slammers, would like to try one.
  11. I can remember a clip, but not the film, of where she is walking around a tiny bikini. She's hot, you can use earplugs.
  12. Little known fact about Max Martin is that he was originally a singer in a hardrock band called It's Alive. He is a killer vocalist, don't know about his guitar playing skills though. The "his face on a Hamer" thing was a joke, as stated by Mr C Matthes.
  13. The Swedish songwriter & producer Max Martin holds all four top positions on the Billboard Hot 100. He beats The Beatles old record with three in a row from 1964. Kinda cool for us Swedes, lol Now, when will we see a graphic Hamer Special with his face on it, double lol.
  14. I sure wish he sells lots of guitars at those prices. Imagine what will happen to other guitars designed by Jol, or all Hamers for that matter. The used prices will go sky high Other than that I see a telecaster being spray painted, not that inovative. And a very ugly headstock with a very non glossy finish. Makes me think of goth or nu metal, or something worse. Not cool. So I guess they are not for me.
  15. I've also never seen a "solid one piece...bookmatched alder body" Me neither. But I am pretty convinced that it is a two piece body. It looks like it from the pics.
  16. I dunno. I saw this and started humming on the "theme from the Pink Panther". No logic to that at all, but that is one seriously cool guitar. I'd take it with an un-potted Duncan Custom 5, if possible.
  17. I got my green tortex picks a few weeks ago. My wife thought that the handwriting on the envelpe was "sophisticated", (perhaps she meant "girlie"). Nice handwriting none the less... I swear that these green tortex picks gives me better tone. It is like taking a blanket from the amp. (I have not been this pleased with one single upgrade since I installed my Schablottnick pickups). Seriously folks, if you want better tone, NOS Mullards or an expensive boutiqe pedal is not the way to go. It's much easier, and cheaper, to just get a set of HFC picks. Nothing will improve your tone MORE.
  18. Austin - I believe those are called a #551 shape - those are smaller than a standard #351 and come to more of a point. I can see if we can get those done, and will let you know. Not sure if we'll incur additional charges to get the logo to fit on there, and we may have more limited choice of colors, but I'll check. If the Jazz III works out count me in for a few packages ...maybe even in Ultex Count me in as well. I use those Jazz III's and I love 'em. Hard to go back to those big old log sized picks...
  19. I would seriously have considered it, if I was in the US. Don't want the hazzle of shipping something overseas right now. To much going on with moving to a new house etc.
  20. Hell Yeah! My wife says I can go, (yeah, I'm a whipped dog, I know... ). That's the good news. The bad news... ...we just bought a pretty expensive house and are moving in in July. I am putting up our country house for sale next week. Depending on how much we can get for that house, and how much time and money I need to put up for renovations on our new house - I will know my financial status for a trip in perhaps July, August. It would be cool, I have not been in the States since 2002.
  21. oh <Salute!> K . I I was kidding, BTW. Should have added the LEDs and Shlabotnik pickups into the list, maybe it would have been funnier... If you want Schablotniks for that special run you´ll have to wait. It takes him over a month to wind one pickup! Imagine an order of ten or more, scheech! You will be on the waiting list for a year at - at the least!
  22. They are from Stockholm Sweden. I'm not into this kind of music, but it's cool that the have fans around the globe. The real vikings were som tough bastards, so I guess music that takes influences from them must be hard. May the true Gods of Valhalla be with them! I thought everyone from Sweden loved melodic death metal I knew they were from Sweden, I wasn't aware it was Stockholm (though if I HAD to guess, I suppose it would be close to the top). They tour A LOT, which is true of many metal acts overseas - and Hel knows that some of our best make their cash in Europe (Iced Earth, I'm looking at you). Sweden produces a lot of fine metal, Norway produces a lot of creepy musicians (Varg alone takes the cake), and Finland somehow conjures up shredders and metal squeeze boxers... What's going on over there in the northlands, is it something in the water? If so, can I have some? Dave/Grimm I guess it all comes down to the fact that white men simply don't dance.

  24. The sale pitch for the CAE sounds promising, but all new wah's I've tried sounds to "new" for me. They don't have that true vintage "whack". I don't want my wah to sound to hifi, I want it sweet and Shafty. My referenses are Curtis Mayfield, 1970's Thin Lizzy - Robertson era etc. I bought an old Colorsound wah from the 70's a few months ago and it's just killer sounding, just right - and with a fairly long sweep. I would not say "It's built like a tank" though. But with a little tlc it will last me forever.
