New discovery - Out of phase sounds
Disturber replied to hamer_sunburst's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Most old Sunburst are wired this way from the factory. They sound great in the middle position. I wired my SuperPro this way too. If you want funky sounds you go out of phase. -
Twang Bar King! Plus one on Belew. And PRINCE.

Hamer "Bucket List"
Disturber replied to django49's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
If I could get a Talladega I could sell of some Hamers and be good with; my Korina Standard, my Newport, my SuperPro, and a new Tally. That would more than well cover what I need tone wise. But the other Hamers I have are still great, so I'll let them hang around for now. -
This is great lounge music, and Im serious now.

2011 HFC Year In Review... Best Posts, Best Buys, etc.
Disturber replied to Hamerhack's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Sometimes I miss those days. Do you mean the pickups? No, I have put a set of Duncan antiquity covers on an old pair of Hamer Dimarzios. If I set the screws high they fit the holes, but are somewhat un-aligned. But it looks cool. However, the guitar has such a high output as it is semi hollow, and with the maple cap it's just sounds to snappy if it have the pole pieces in lign with the covers. I actually have them screwed down in line with the actual pick up bobbin - and the guitars sounds like an old 1958 LP mixed with an old tele. It's tone heaven. The pups are un potted and microphonic, that together with the semi hollowness is awesome. Picks up every nuance of the guitar. And they don't sqeal either through my 2104 Marshall - go figure! -
I had zero expectations on this one, was more expecting a turd than a "turn it up" song. I say - Hell Yeah! This actually has, even if it's just a tad of, freshness over it. I give it a "thumbs up!" I had high expectations on the new ZZ top material with Rick Rubin, and that song was a genuine turd. So I say keep your exepectations low and you might get surprised. I gotta hear this one again actually, now, wheres that play button?! (diamond dave'ish low voice).

2011 HFC Year In Review... Best Posts, Best Buys, etc.
Disturber replied to Hamerhack's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
This was by far the best buy, (it was a partial trade actually). Dumb ass that got rid of it, he did not know what he was doing. After a pick up change and a proper set up it's been my number one all year. Deadly tones. -

What are the ugliest Hamer models?
Disturber replied to zorrow's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Virtuosos are the ugliest guitars Hamer ever made. They are so ugly they only look normal on Uli Roth, the ugliest player on earth. Mirages aren't that attractive either, but seem like great guitars and I'd like to have one. Other ugly guitars Hamer made are the ones for lefties. Look at a leftie Sunburst for instance, it looks so weird, lol Personally I think that a Blitz with 3x3 headstock looks cool. It's instant 80's Billy Gibbons to me. I'll take 'em all, just send them over. -
WTB Standard Korina
Disturber replied to Steve H's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Best Hamer's out there They have a nicer vintage Korina colour also, than the later ones. Might need to change that bridge JB out though, sounded like ass in mine. -
I need to get used to the new look. I really liked the old one. But If it's better for Ted then it's better for me.

"BLACK SABBATH REUNITES TO RECORD FIRST NEW STUDIO ALBUM IN 33 YEARS AND LAUNCH MASSIVE WORLD TOUR IN 2012 OZZY OSBOURNE, TONY IOMMI, GEEZER BUTLER AND BILL WARD UNVEIL PLANS ON 11/11/11 AT A LOS ANGELES PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE WHISKY A GO-GO, WHERE THE BAND PERFORMED THEIR FIRST LOS ANGELES DATE EXACTLY 41 YEARS AGO " Okay. Might be good might be bad. If Rick Rubin produces the chances that it will turn out okay seems a bit more promising at least, although that new ZZ top song was hit and miss. I saw a reunion gig, but can't remember which year - 1998 maybe? It was great though, really. Although since then Ozzy lost it for real, did the family sit com thingy on MTV, did at least one face lift and seems genrally tired from old age.

I am their biggest fan ever, lol. Have had four so far. Now I have a Deluxe Reverb II, (2nd one I have), and a Super Champ. Both these amps are just awesome. I love 'em and they are true keepers. I bought a a Vibrolux about a year ago, but sold it this past summer. It did not match up to the Deluxe Reverb II, which to my ears sounded better, and played about as loud. Much clearer in sound and I prefer a solid state rectefier. Their weak point might be the stock speakers, but some like them. Robert Quine for instance always recorded with his Super Champ with the stock speaker. His guitar sound on the Lloyd Cole albums is just stellar. Another weak point is the bias circuitry. These amps are now 30 years old so the bias circuit needs a look at by a good tech. I have a document on this somewhere as a pdf. I you have a Rivera amp I can mail it. Other than that these are some of the finest Fender amps out there still at reasonable prices. The Deluxe Reverb II is the most versatile, and my favourite. Then I like the Super Champ for it's neat size and great sounds. After that the Princeton Reverb II is also something to consider, (but the DRII costs about the same and is the better of the two).

Humbuckers for Newport Pro- Suggestions?
Disturber replied to ArnieZ's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I'd go for Antiquties over the Seths, I find them more airy and open. Great for hollow bodies. Or I'd look for an old pair of 80's Dimarzio DP103 paf's. Got one in the bridge that sounds incredible in my Super Pro. -
I know a guy who has a company that prints tour T-shirts for bands, and other merch stuff. I might get a deal there if we would to do a bulk order. However, Hamer/Fender might not be so happy if we use their logo without permission? Perhaps they are okay with it if we would pay a few bucks extra that goes to the HFC maintenance fund?

I have no idea how much 12 pounds is in American money. With the current state of the US economy... A shitload.

Well, we all where not THAT unhappy with him before he left Hamer. I am just saying he launched some very fine guitars after the year 2000. The Monaco Superpro is one of the finest guitars I've ever played. The Newport and Artist are awesome. The Talladega looks killer, I've never played one. Maybe he's been grumpy, but I still prefer the way he handled things over how some other brands do it (including Fenders own production). He's been damn proud of his product, which makes me proud to play the brand. Let us not forget that he has also done great things, and built some fine guitars. Better his route than the option that Paul wanted - with cheaper made instruments and higher production rate. I would not have stayed loyal to the brand if they had choosen that route. Hamers are perhaps like Citroen and Saab cars, not for eveyone, but those who get it are strong ambassadeurs of the brand. You guys have been here all these years, so I guess you have enjoyed a lot of it as well. Remember the good stories with Jol too, not just the bad stuff.

Had he done that same headstock shape 15 years ago, he would not have invited to finally leave Hamer, letting a legendary brand die while others passed over them doing that same very simple thing. For a supposedly "expert in design", it must have been very frustrating to finally yield, but having to charge $38,000 a piece so people did not notice the thunderous defeat. I don't agree. That headstock is pretty ugly compared to Hamer's. And perhaps now that he got a chance, he wante to do something different. The price is out of our league perhaps, and I'd take a Hamer Ultimate over that one any day. But seriously - I wish him the best of luck with establishing these guitars on the market. In the long run, if it goes well, it will only benefit the Hamer brand. Can't we give him some cred. I am pretty happy that he moved Hamer away from the hairspray stuff. The best and greatest Hamer stuff was made before and after the shred 'era'. He was kicked from Hamer by Fender. When he was there he was atleast getting some guitars built and developed new models. Will we ever see a new Hamer model now that he is gone? I doubt it. Go on doing what you do now Jol - respect to you for the great Hamer models you brought out in the last fifteen years!
