  1. They are (still) a damn great band. And they've recorded som absolutely killer guitartones during their career. The King of goth! Back to silly bands with good names. How 'bout Carter the unstoppable sex machine (from the UK).
  2. It looks like he is playing sinners swing with Van Halen, I could be wrong, but I doubt it
  3. Hamer Standards are the most well balanced and comfortable guitars there is to play. I was surprised when I first tried one, they are quite different from the Gi*son Explorers, thicker body, better (smaller) neck joint, etc. I bought a Vector just before christmas and was really dissapointed at the feeling of a Vee. Really uncomfortable and neck heavy, it could not bond with the guitar at all. It was sad as it sounded great and had a super comfortable neck. But it had to go, vee's are not for me.
  4. Newer Wilkisons briges can apparently be used as substitute, (use search function and search for Wilkinson to see if you can find out more). What is wrong with the bridge he has? Perhaps it's easy to fix? Personally I really like the original Wilkinson bridge on the T51's. It's got a great snap and tele bite to it as the saddles are screwed tight separarately, which gives great coupling that increases tone.
  5. And some heroin, forgot about that. Both Phil and Scott had trouble with the sweet stuff.
  6. Def Leppard - Work it Out - Slang Rush - Far Cry - Snakes and Arrows Bob Marley - Rastaman live up - Confrontation! ZZ Top - Alley Gator - Mescalero Jack Of Gill -Strawberry Gashes - Clear Hearts Grey Flowers Patchy_and_powerman - Sleng_Teng_AKA_Killing_Ting_Riddim-(Promo) - We Cant Stop Depeche Mode - Nothing - Music For The Masses Kiss - Within - Box set, disc five Gov't Mule - Trying not to fall - The Deepest End CD2 Chris Cornell - You Know My Name - James Bond Soundtrack Casion Royale
  7. Live and Dangerous is a good place to start, as stated above. Other classic albums are Jailbreak, Bad reputation, Black Rose, Johnny the Fox etc. Their last album Thunder and Lightning is more of a heavy metal album than the bands other releases. It is harder and with more agressive guitarwork by John Sykes. It's very 80s. Personally I don't hold it as one of the bands best releases. Start with the albums above and if you like them work your way through the bands entire catalgue. For that classic Lizzy guitartone: Marshall amps, Les Paul guitars, a wah wah here and there. Scott Gorham played almost all guitars on the Bad Reputation album, one of the albums which has their best recorded guitartone put on tape (together with Live & Dangerous). He used a bunch of Marshall 2104 combos for the leads. He also used one combo live on stage together with some Marshall stacks, and the rythm guitars was played through the stacks, and the leads through the combo. That is how he got that open airy lead tone. Classic!
  8. That is awesome! Love that headstock. BTW, a lot of people on the gear page whine about the normal Hamer headstock, I don't get it, I like that one too. rob The normal Hamer headstock is an awsome simple rock n roll design. It just cool. I think those who don't like it are into Celine Dion or something.
  9. I found this one (the same that is laying on the pavement in CMatthes post) in Finland three, four years ago. I don't have a clue how it ended up there. It's a 24 fret archtoped Sunburst monster with Dan Armstrong headstock. I just recently got it back from my guitar tech and the set up is just killer, it sounds amazing. If you have any background info on this guitar from Sam Moss store please share! Did he call these ones electraglides as well? To describe the tone of this one I'll quote Jol when he speaks about the earthen maple guitars "..a jangly pop-rock or R&B machine!"
  10. Phil Lynott for his abbility to play with the song, and sing so soulful at the same time. He used both his voice and the bass to ad character to his songs. Paul Simonon - The Clash, for being on one of the coolest record sleeves ever, London Calling. One of the most classic rock pics ever taken. He is not the greatest player, but his energy contributed to the greatness of the Clash. Lemmy - no need for further comments. Peter Hook - Joy Division & New Order. For a totally unique playing style and sound that made the above mentioned bands two of the greates UK bands of all times. Geddy Lee - Rush, for having a girlie voice and playing like a mofo. Killer guy, killer band. :-) Nikki Sixx - the Crûe. For being the bad ass boy he was in the 80's. My hero back then. More a man of great ideas than a great musician, but he wrote some great tunes back then. edit: Dusty Hill is a pretty neat bass player as well. One of his right hand fingers is stiff (from surgery), and called "The pleaser", (for reasons I can only imagine). He's got some mean thunder in that finger! Dee Dee Ramone - a classic rock/punk-rock bass player. Created a new style. Great songwriter too. Flea can drop some nasty grooves as well! I'm sorry, but John Entwistle just don't do anything for me. He might be tight as a player, but he's just as booring. Terrible dresser, always ugly clothes. A beard(jikes!), always standing still looking dull and he also designed the ugliest bass ever made. He's as booring as that other bearded bass guy, in Judas Priest. ;-)
  11. I probably own all albums that Prince and Cheap Trick ever released. (I like both, but favour Prince if I have to choose). But who really cares, JUST GIVE ME THAT PURPLE GUITAR!
  12. They are kinda smallish and I really don't trust 'em without using those plastic straplocks that you can put on top. There has been at least two different knobs before the Dunlop's, perhaps even more. (I don´t have pics, but perhaps someone else can chime in?)As I type this I remember that I once needed a pair of original knobs for an old Sunburst. I posted about it on this board and WYLDBIL came through and sent me a shiny pair from a 70's Hamer he had laying around. What a great guy he was!!!!!!!
  13. I have an 1986 that has the old ones and an 1989 with Dunlops. So sometime after 1986 I'd say.
  14. Exactly. If you can, spend the money on something vintage. THAT's where it's at! I played a real 1958 tele in a studio two years ago. It was in 100% original condition. Can't say that it blew me away. It was really good, but my T51 is an evil creature too. For me it's not worth paying what a vintage Tele costs. My T51 does the job just right and sounds like it sold it's soul to the devil, just as it's supposed to.
  15. Man, that is cool as hell. I wish they hadn't reliced it though. For the price they will want for that thing I'd want it un-touched.
  16. I purchased a Schenker Vector from Roli. Great neck and great sounding guitar. But I quickly discovered Vectors are not for me. The Vee shape must be the most uncomfortable guitarshape ever made. Totally unplayable sitting down. Neck heavy and I kept bangning the vee edges into everything. So I unfortunately sold the guitar after only a month. Vectors still looks killer though.
  17. Doesn't Shakiras guitarist play Hamer's?
  18. What exactly is "gold frets"? Are they made of real gold? That will be some costly fret wear Seriously, what is it?
  19. I was a lurker now and then to find what had happened to Hamer post-shredder years. I signed up in 2000 I think. First replies from C Matthes and BTMN, that much I remember
  20. Congrats fellas!
  21. How many members are we at the HFC? Can't we all chip in and buy the damn company I'd rather place my money there than on a custom order right now.
  22. I didn't knew Hamer did carved tops on Sunbursts in '86. That's a great looker, Mattias They didn't. Not more than a handful around. This is one of two with the Dan Armstrong headstock style.
  23. For some reason I just started huming the tune "Bad, bad, bad" by the Supersuckers...
  24. Here is a flame to stunn your eyes! 1986 Sunburst Custom with arch top. This one is currently with my tech getting the frets dressed and a pro setup. He was stunned by this flamed top. Not many tops like this around he said.
