Besides, he started it! 😜 This from the the internet machine...I cut and pasted this so I suppose that's why it's hard to read like this... "MZA" in Loudness's song "Crazy Nights" has no actual meaning; it was a nonsensical placeholder vocal by singer Minoru Niihara that the producer, Max Norman, decided to keep because they couldn't come up with a better line. Niihara originally sang it as a placeholder during a demo and then, unable to replace it with anything better, it remained in the final version of the song. Original purpose: Niihara was asked to sing something over the main riff during the pre-production of the Thunder in the East album. Accidental creation: He sang "M-Z-A" as a meaningless guide vocal by accident. Producer's decision: The producer, Max Norman, liked the sound of it and decided to keep it, despite it having no meaning. Failed replacement: The band tried to come up with a meaningful replacement, but they could not find anything better than "M-Z-A," so it stayed.

I liked his comment below about not needing any fretwork ... : About the Fly fingerboard Post Thu Feb 01, 2024 6:00 pm I forgot to mention that the fretted .020" fingerboard was bonded to the basswood and later, mahogany necks with an additional layer of .010" thick prepreg fiberglass cloth. Essentially, this created a fingerboard that was 2/3 fiberglass/epoxy and 1/2 carbon fiber/epoxy measuring .030" or .75mm thick. The fingerboard gluing surface was conical, and the fingerboard was cylindrical, but high pressure and a very precise, stiff steel caul brought them together to form the correct conical surface. Confused? I hope not, it was a beautiful system that worked to perfection, and completely removed the necessity of adjusting the fret heights after assembly. Result? we did absolutely zero fretwork, and every guitar was shipped with frets exactly as supplied by our wire rolling vendor company. I use the Dr Z Air Brake as well with my 60 watt Zinky MoFo Encore head and 2*12 cab. Works great! It doesn't have the newer connectivity features but does make it very straight forward to use. I recently moved into another house which has a clean not quite a basement but a crawl space I can stand up in some areas where I thought about putting a insulated box to house various cabs and not use an attenuator but run full bore without the volume. Just the mixed signal brought into my DAW and monitors up in the house. The Dr Z does attenuate the high frequencies somewhat so this would help that and bring the full high wattage speaker interaction into play for the most authentic sound, whatever that is. Or. I can avoid all that work and just use an IR like most sane people nowadays! 😁

I always stop at Goodwill to peruse their records but almost always walk away disappointed; just how many Davis Soul, Engelbert Humperdinck, Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass albums did they press, and why are they all at my Goodwill? I even played trumpet for years but enough is enough! Some of the vinyl that looked a little promising was in such bad shape I would not play them on my equipment. Anyway, the other day I found a near mint SOR: 20 STUDIES FOR GUITAR JOHN WILLIAMS record for a buck so I finally bought one there! I'll continue my quest.

It sounds like you just need to woodshed on your picking. Start the correct picking stokes slowly and avoid the temptation to go fast. You'll lose your form and will probably be playing with sloppy technique as you're just not there yet. No use to practice anything the wrong way no matter how fast or slow it's played. When you have the right technique down the speed will come with practice. Use a metronome and your playing will sound better when playing in time and give you motivation as you see your speed increase. The only advice opposing this is what John Petrucci uses in developing speed. He says he will try a new run or lick at say 140BPM with perfect technique, but then he'll just kill himself trying at say 180BPM. Then when he comes back down to 140BPM it's easier because the speed seems like slow motion now compared to 180. Although, I probably wouldn't try that yet until your basic picking is solid. Our own Kevin Dillard (I think he's still around but haven't heard from him lately - if so say hi Kevin!) wrote a book called Intelli-shred which helped me visualize the board in a more vertical way than just the horizontal boxes. He also had another book after that about arpeggios but I don't have that one. Fretboard logic has helped me visualize the fretboard as well. The SE version has books one and two together. I tried the Grimoire series like Jettster used before (still uses?) But, I sold them because I couldn't memorize every page, scale, mode etc. to memory like Rodney did!! And finally, it might be good to practice a run from a song like "Love Gun" that's just a didley-didley run but may make practice more enjoyable. Good luck!!!

Started when I heard Lovedrive in high school. They use to let us bring these big ass cassette players (some were about 2'x2'!) fully cranked at lunch and between classes in CA. It was "Lovin' you Sunday Morning" Then it was the Animal Magetism album then the rest of the older Uli stuff. I held on for several more albums then the newer stuff didn't do it for me although some of it was good. They are still my fav band I've seen live. The energy that they exude on stage makes me think of a traveling gypsy show where they are playing for whatever tips they can get...weird I know!

I also use an old credit card to remove stuff near the fret w/o scratching. I finish up with 2 grades of synthetic steel wool w/o iron in it. to polish things up.

Does anyone know who's coming up tonight and Friday? I've DVR'd both.

Do the new vinyls have any better qualities that the old ones had...such as less surface noise due to better (new?) materials? Just wondering.

I still have my Sansui turntable that's about 32 years old(!!)and still works great! I think I replaced a belt once. It has an EMprie cartridge that's still going strong. I had the stock one and possibly a Shure in there at other times. I also still have all my old vinyl. So, many memories!

Guy in between the two could be a roadie, or a typical guitarist with his arms crossed thinking he could play it better, or both! Nice rhythm parts and solo! I remember when I first heard that solo and said WTF!

Yeah, but I bet she'll score higher in her SAT test than you did! Man, some of these young guitarist coming up...scary.
