Anyone who can step on a stage with that trio, their catalog and the audience's "Freddie" expectations and peform as Adam did has my complete respect.

Cleaning the gear closet ...
Jeff R replied to Jeff R's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
I'll call you in a little while. The cool thing about BBC (in addition to her going home to you where she likely belongs) is that she no longer resides in a gig bag. Her new bed is a rectangular double-stitch spring-latch hardshell I harvested from a late 80s Valley Arts USA P-bass clone. Bulletproof. -
Dearest Vonnie was laid off recently and to make matters worse, her employer is trying to shaft her out of her last month's pay. So on top of the loss of income woes, we have to get a labor attorney because I want to hang that company's balls on my wall like a trophy deer head. So with that said, let's see if we can turn some of my rarely used gear into a legal retainer ... * Boss Micro BR portable multi-track recorder. I originally bought this to capture great off-the-cuff song ideas. I am apparently either not that creative or not motivated to consistently capture my creativity. It's safe to call this unit "new in box" because I used it one weekend two years ago and it's sat in the box since. The cool bonus on this is that I likely didn't erase what I recorded that weekend, so you'll also be the legal owner of a few "great" Jeff R. rare outtakes because I don't know how to download music off this gadget, much less copyright what's on it. It has guitar amp sims and programmable drum tracks inside, and it fits in a guitar case compartment. Includes power adapter, all manuals and box candy too. Make me a fair offer. * Alesis Quadraverb rackmount multi-effects unit from the late 80s-ish. Great for your band's PA, your rig's effects loop, etc. Tons of crap going on in this box. Includes the factory power adaptor. Good condition for its age and as far as I know, fully functional. I used it to set up a mini PA at a party this past weekend and it performed just fine. Make me a fair offer. * Katanasound Venomous Snake fuzz/octavia pedal. This is a handmade booteek'ey pedal from a small company in Japan that pretty much nobody's heard of except for me (and now you). Great at both fuzz and octavia, stoopid expensive new and very hard to find in America, so here's your chance to score a great deal on a great pedal that none of your friends have. Make me a fair offer. * TC Electronic Corona Chorus. I only use this when I've been listening to too much 80s Rush. It's been sitting on top of my amp since I got it, so it has never even been stepped on. Box, Toneprints adaptor cable, etc. Make me a fair offer. * Teese RMC2 wah. It has individual knobs for "Q" (the quack point in the sweep), volume when the effect is engaged and a click rotary switch that sets the depth of the overall wah sweep. Sounds great and it's quite frankly very attractive in its metallic royal blue housing with white rubber footie grippy thing. If you like great wah pedals that look like a vintage Hot Wheels car, this is your baby. Make me a fair offer. I don't have pictures of this stuff readily available but Google Images does if you need visuals. Too many great HFC transactions to list I might add. Due to the circumstances I've cited, I haven't ruled out moving other pieces in my arsenal to make the rent, including my guitars and amps if it comes to that. I can reluctantly part with my Ovation USA 1778T Ultra, my EBMM honeyburst Axis, my Chap bass and/or my Ampeg bass combo, etc., due to the situation at hand. I've got pics of most of that stuff too. Drop me a PM if you're interested and we'll go from there.

The two coolest basses I've ever owned were my ESP 400 Series P-bass clone (with a factory-added J pickup) and my '90 Chap bolt-on the Muse sold me and Vonnie last year. I still have the latter - unbelievable player and gut-shaker.

A very close HFC friend steered me and Vonnie to your website for the background on this thread. I tend to ignore everyone's signatures on message boards because most (like mine) have no real depth/relevance whatsoever. Vonnie and I read as much as we could and all we can say as parents of six children is we offer our condolences and we truly cannot imagine what you guys continue to endure. Reach out if you or the family ever need anything.

I don't miss carrying my Bluesbreaker combo but I sure miss playing it. That was a sweet amp. A great friend whose an exceptional, longtime musician and I got into a discussion at his music shop yesterday about Jim Marshall's contributions. We chuckled about the idea that as much as Strats, Teles and LPs have remained true to their roots over decades, arguably the most unchanged piece of musical gear out there - whether Marshall or a manufacturer he influenced - is the 4x12 cab. I met him briefly years ago at a vintage guitar show and he was a genuinely nice guy. Sorry to see him pass.

I've had an Antiquity Texas Hot in the neck position of my favorite guitar in the world for over 10 years now. Never looked back. Perfect neck pickup on an alder/maple bolt-on platform.

2011 HFC Year In Review... Best Posts, Best Buys, etc.
Jeff R replied to Hamerhack's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Lot of acquisitions this past year ... Prime new acquisition in 2011: My wonderful wife, Vonnie Prime old acquistion in 2011: My '03 goldtop PRS Singlecut, from a friend dear to all of us HFC'ers residing in Virginia. 2011 Hamers: - Cherryburst '96 Artist from JGale. I couldn't bond with the shorter scale and it currently resides with my oldest son, Joey. - Big black '91 Chap bass from The Muse. It currently resides on a stand in my den, getting plenty of play time from both Vonnie and myself. Two amps: '11 Boogie Mark V head parked atop a Marshall 1936 series 2x12, and a recent Ampeg BA-300 2x10 bass combo. The Mark V set a personal precedent - most money I ever spent on one piece of gear. And worth every penny. A few stompboxes, the most recent being an Ibanez Airplane Flanger (bought it Friday). I'm still seasick this thing is so over the top. Been very fortunate in that recent years have just gotten better and better it seems. Looking forward to 2012. And Kiz, thanks for coming back. As for the freelance writing you placed this past year, I knew you had it in you. -
I had the same thing happen about five or six years ago - a 4x12 was being shipped to my house and I happened to be at home when it arrived for delivery. I was sitting on my couch and heard the "whump ... whump ... whump" coming up my driveway. The irony was I'm 99.9 percent sure the guy who shipped it to me took a big black marker and wrote " FRAGILE - HEAVY - USE HAND CART" on every side of the box. The guy packed it very well (double-boxed and very well padded), so it was just fine. No harm, no foul.

Whatever you do, don't fill the finish/wood "dimple" on the bass side of the pickup. I worked very hard to create that haha! -

'91 Chap 5-string bass - for sale
Jeff R replied to tobereeno's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
GREAT bass. I'll say it again: The only reason I moved it was because I'm more comfortable with four strings on a bass. Killer piece. I hope it stays in the family. -
Before the internet, their mailer was my source for gear I couldn't find at my local dealers as well. I couldn't count the Mesa Boogies, Jackson and ESP stuff I bought way back when through Hirsch - he probably still has my old mailing address from the early to mid 90s on file.
-
Those guitars are so versatile, I gigged with one many moons ago. Those MFDs are nice - big and bold clean and then they think they're P-90s when you OD them. Nice score.

I was having a Ric vs. Newport debate just a month or so when I decided to add something semi-hollow to my stable, and I played my first Ric 12-stringer during my test drives. I have long, thin fingers and I was having SERIOUS problems navigating the cowboy chords region, and that's likely where most of my 12-string playing would occur if I was shopping for one. From a player's standpoint, I don't think a Ric would a viable option for me no matter how much of a desirable and signature sound they produce. If I was going for a 12-string, I'd probably lean towards a Newport with Phat Cats. For what it's worth, I ended up going with Gale's Artist he put FS on the board and I'm quite happy with it. If I seek a 12-string sound, I'll just fake it with my chorus pedal for now.
