Can freezing cold/thawing snap a truss rod?
Steve Haynie replied to carfish7's question in Ask the HFC Experts
So, there could possibly have been a crack in the truss rod before the extreme cold made the truss rod shrink? -
I think the knot is there. The light angle has changed.

Tom with a Hamer!?! Next thing you know, the whole band will reconcile with Bun E!

I got to play a 1945 D18 today
Steve Haynie replied to Brentrocks's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The oldest Martin that was ever placed in my hands was a 50's OOO-18. Oh, my! The D-18 would be one for everyone to want to try out. Lucky you, Brent! -
I like it.

Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Nominees
Steve Haynie replied to Carl.B's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Link Wray was doing heavy guitar back in the 50's. He was not the greatest player, but if he had Marshall stacks and a fuzz pedal in 1958 you would have had Metallica type music by 1968. -

Thank you for posting the Bob Taylor video. Bob made a guitar out of old shipping pallets that impressed people. I trust his judgment and respect his viewpoint. -

Thinking of passing this one on to a next gen metalhead...
Steve Haynie replied to Oldguitarist's question in Ask the HFC Experts
If we all sold guitars that just sit in cases and rarely come out we would glut the market with cool guitars. For the record, I want your guitar. I cannot buy another guitar right now. -

Do you really want to sell that Blitz? Have you thought about putting it away for a few months and then pulling it out to play it again? You might surprise yourself with that guitar. -

Those inlays look like they fit perfectly without any glue to hold them in place. -

If you use the wrong finish do you have to strip the neck and spray it again, or do you get to make another neck? If you have to make another neck someone could order another body... -
Parts for an original Cruise Bass?
Steve Haynie replied to PuppyPower43's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I traced a Cruisebass pickguard on a plastic for sale sign (or something like that) for someone a couple of years ago. The truss rod cover can be engraved easily enough. -

So what's the deal? You show up at a jam and everyone measures headstocks to see who has the longest one? -

You should have gone with two strings so you could hit power chords. -
I saw Hurricane as an opening act years ago. They were OK.

How did you learn to play guitar (or bass)?
Steve Haynie replied to Feynman's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I took banjo lessons at a local music store. Then guitar lessons. My teacher was the store owner, and like many people in music stores he had been playing around locally including a few radio/TV gigs and teaching for years. Years later there were bass lessons from a college educated jazz guy that opened my mind to music theory. More years later there were a couple of months of guitar lessons that took the theory further. The rest has been from talking to people, reading magazine articles, and using books and videos. Not practicing negates all of that. -
The concert audience was full of a lot of peopl in their 40's and 50's. I saw an old man and his wife who had to be around 80. Why they were there is a mystery.

A friend of a friend bought the bass in this video. It is supposed to be one of two copies of the Lobue bass Gene had in the 70's.
