soli'd Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 Just saw this pop up in my feed- anyone know what this finish is called? It's like a lighter 59 but "unburst". Aztec Gold? https://reverb.com/item/93057953-1995-hamer-usa-studio-custom-hardtail-quilted-maple-top-electric-guitar-w-ohsc 4 Quote
Jimbilly Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 $2099 + $100 shipping, tax in my state is just over 10% Not a terrible price for one of these nowadays? - Quote

BoogieMKIIA Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 Willcutt used to have a special Brown Sugar finish on Hamers but I think this is much earlier. Is the fingerboard ebony? Quote
Travis Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 Hmm, you don’t see crowns with a wraptail on a studio that often… 4 1 Quote
Ua D Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 (edited) Bet that’s a CO. Ebony board, bevel and a wraparound. Isn’t that color called Vintage Orange, or maybe just Transparent orange back then? Edited November 13, 2025 by Ua D Quote
Dave Scepter Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 Too bad no TOM or Sustain block bridge... 1 1 Quote

Drew816 Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 Yeah, I saw this one and squirmed... That guitar is totally my thing, though perhaps the neck spec's aren't in line with what I prefer; I didn't bother to ask for fear of the answer... I like the thinner, early 90's necks. I think by what, 94 they'd started to get a little more meat, and this is a 95. LOVE IT, ugh. 2 Quote

butcher Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 (edited) I thought I had a JB and a '59 in there. Neck is very comfy. Not thin, not vintage. Edited November 13, 2025 by butcher spellink 2 1 Quote

Love, love, love those '95 necks! I have a Custom Studio with an ebony board, an Artist, and a Duotone, all from 1995. Whoever buys this beauty will be happy for sure! 1 Quote
lang Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 My old Tally had vintage orange listed at the color on its CO certificate. Looks like the same color? 5 Quote
Ua D Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 Yeah I had one of the bcr Jr's in orange for a short minute and a Newport p90 wrap tail in orange. Cool color. Almost want to buy this one. 1 Quote

My 95 Studio Custom has a thin-ish neck. It's kind of right between the thin neck my 93 Special had and the medium neck on my '11 Studio Custom. Here are the respective measurements: Hamer Studio Custom 1st 21.9 (.86) 12th 23.6 (.93) Hamer Special 1st 20.6 (.81) 12th 20.9 (.82) Hamer Studio P90 1st 21.5 (.85) 12th 22.7 (.89) Edited November 14, 2025 by Jim85IROC 1 Quote
Travis Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 (edited) I’ve had more Hamers in the ‘94-‘97 range than any other era. I’ve also had ‘78, ‘83, ‘84, ‘87-‘92, 2000, and my ‘07 Tally. So, I feel like I’ve got a good amount of experience with their different necks. The mid 90’s Hamer “medium” necks are ultra comfortable C-shapes. I prefer BIG necks and I have no problem at all playing these. My ‘89 Charvel is a thinner/wide D neck and I’ve spent a fair amount of time on an original 80’s Ibanez RG550 with the Wizard neck. Going back and forth between those thin necks and the mid 90’s Hamer medium is effortless. No matter what your preference is, I would have no problem recommending this era of Hamer from the neck perspective. IMHO, this guitar needs nickel hardware and a set of Josh’s pickups with raw nickel covers. Then it would be perfect… Edited November 14, 2025 by Travis 5 1 Quote

soli'd Posted November 14, 2025 Author Posted November 14, 2025 (edited) These slight cosmetic deficiencies will be corrected forthwith. I've always wanted an Arlington Heights Hamer... edited to add- I hope buying an orange guitar the day before the Texas game doesn't affect my beloved DAWGS. butcher Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 I may have the original trussrod cover around here somewhere.
