Finally I'm on a page where I don't get dizzy from scrolling!The seller can set whatever price he chooses, but he must know there is a limit to what someone will pay. It is possible that the guitar may end up in a trade at a later time, too.I did put an item on eBay that got a lot of attention and offers to end the auction early. I kept it honest and let it run its course.

IMO, it has already gone well passed the point of making sense.Add some dough because of the 0002 serial number, and a bit more because it was Barr's, but after that, it's a 4 digit Standard. Not one of a kind, or identifiable in any way other than the serial number. Perhaps if had used the guitar live, or was in any way identified with it as he is with the black B&C Sunburst.If it were used on Aqualung, or one of Tull's other "good" recordings (this is a whole other debate), I could see going higher, but with the production date of this instrument being "early '75," that puts it well after Tull's "quality recordings."It still is the most significant Hamer that has ever become available (it's not likely that any of RN's will ever be), but there comes a point where we make more out of something than it really is.Should it be the highest price in Hamer History? Yes, but I think $10,000 is pushing it.Of course, there's that whole 2004 Red Sox thing....

This was the second Standard made, the first one in this configuration. If it had the original pickups (which as I understood were PAFs, at least in the bridge) I would guess a selling price of more than $20k. Not necessaily because it was Martin's, but that it is such an early (and clean) example of a company as well respected as Hamer. This is also the guitar that was featured in all of the early Hamer ads (the hatless Rick N, the long strip ad) and in the first Hamer catalog. With "run of the mill" four digits with numbers over 100 selling in the $4-5k range now, this one is what collectors want-a "bragging rights guitar". Considering that an average 50s LP Junior is selling for what original four digits are and there are 12,000 or so of those out there and only 400 or so Standards, I think that this one is THE Hamer to get. Remember, these were completely hand made items as well. You tell me what you think one of Paul Reed Smith's early (not even one of his first ten) guitars would sell for. My guess is well over $40k.
