Jorge Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 "NO SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT""NO SMOKE ON THE WATER"
MCChris Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Based on when the movie came out and my experiences working at Guitar Center from 1991-1993, it shoulda been "NO 'ENTER SANDMAN'"
Jeff R Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 The thing that irks me more than those timeless music store test-drive "classics" are said songs played not only shittily but on OUT OF TUNE guitars.
Jamie K Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 "NO 'ERUPTION'"No "Smoke on the Water"Speaking of Wayne's World (the movie), is it just me or did the original theater release include the actual intro notes to the song (such that it was immediately recognizable as the Zep tune), whereas when it came out on video there was some random musical garbage dubbed over that portion of the movie? My guess was that Peter Grant threatened to suplex someone for using it without permission when it was first released, and they changed it when it went out in video. Anybody know? It sure seems to kill the joke...And was there a worse sequel than Wayne's World 2? I think not....Jamie
Hackubus Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Sweet Home Alabama. I wanna jab icepicks in my ears everytime I hear that intro.
MCChris Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 And was there a worse sequel than Wayne's World 2? I think not....Caddyshack 2And if we're not limiting ourselves to first sequels only:Jaws 3-D
currypowder Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 And was there a worse sequel than Wayne's World 2? I think not....Caddyshack 2And if we're not limiting ourselves to first sequels only:Jaws 3-DDon't limit yourself to just 2nd sequels, how about Jaws, The Revenge! As for No Play songs, I vote for Freebird. That one and Stairway are 2 songs that I absolutely refuse to listen to.
Willie G. Moseley Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 There are movies that were so bad, they didn't have any sequel but for some perverted/pseudo-intellectual/self-indulgent reason they actually get re-made, and the volcano-size pustule in that category was DUNE. When I went to the original early '80s film, they gave me a list of terms as I walked in ("House Harkonen", blah blah)...so how the **** are you supposed to read it in a darkened theater???In the definitive example of "don't quit yer day job" Sting stunk in DUNE, as he did in BRIMSTONE AND TREACLE and any other movie in which he "acted".The musical connection is that Toto contributed heavily to the soundtrack of DUNE; they had a choice between that movie and FOOTLOOSE, according to Lukather, who detailed that the band went to the premier of DUNE, and were so embarrassed they kept sliding further down in their seats the longer the movie went on. Legendary musician Marty Paich, father of Toto's David Paich, was sitting behind his son, and jabbed his offspring in the back, proclaiming "David, I told you this was gonna be a turkey!"So can anybody explain why DUNE got a re-make for the Sci-Fi channel a couple of years ago?
Boogie1 Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 No Sweet Home Alabama No Brown Eyed Girl No Funky Music
licksville Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 In my 'hangin at the music store' days in the late 80s, the song that made everyone scream in pain was Crazy Train. For a while it seemed like every customer who walked in and plugged in a guitar would break into the intro at some point.+1 on the out of tune thing.
ScottM Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 So can anybody explain why DUNE got a re-make for the Sci-Fi channel a couple of years ago?Don't know for sure, but I'm guessing they were interested in making a movie from a classic book that actually resembled the book. Unlike the David Lynch fiasco. The SciFi movie was an excellent rendering of the book.Scott M.Edited to add: +1 on Smoke on the Water.....
anotherfreak2 Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Aw come on....Every Rose has it's Thorn!
Boogie1 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 In my 'hangin at the music store' days in the late 80s, the song that made everyone scream in pain was Crazy Train. For a while it seemed like every customer who walked in and plugged in a guitar would break into the intro at some point. Forgot about that one! +1 !!

cordroad Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 And who didn't bang out Proud Mary on their POS acoustic.......
unfun 75 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 All I hear now at GC or Sam Ash is a bunch of wanna-be shredding and whammy bar yanking. I blame Dime. RIP.
HamerHokie Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Around '94-'95 the song that was getting worn out by amateurs in music stores was the 'Vaseline' riff (Stone Temple Pilots).
slickwillie2 Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 The Zep boys take themselves VERY seriously. I seem to recall them killing Dr. Dementos " Stairway to Gilligans Island" parody a number of years ago. They should lighten up and count their money."does anyone remember laughter?" ..... jeeezSlickwillie2
lonechicken Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 i hear sweet child o' mine the most.... I would expect this to have been a big one for a short "pre-Enter Sandman" period of time. Hehe, the first electric I bought, I whipped out a rousing rendition of "Nothin' But a Good Time" to 'check it out'.
