GAS on Christmas Eve! I must have this... if I can figure out what the neck is like (a recurring theme in my Gas attacks).

'91 Hamer Sunburst on the 'Bay

Anyone have any ideas of how the neck would be on this '91 Sunburst? I have emailed the seller, but other descriptions would be really helpful. And thank you all for enabling me in my addiction.

My '91 Sunburst is slightly wider and flatter/thinner than most of my other Hamers, but it is by no means what I'd consider a skinny neck. Profile isn't flat like, say, an Ibanez shredder - more in line with a late-80s/early 90s PRS.

See, that's where I am hesitating. Lately I need a beefy neck to get through a whole set without cramping. This seems to be getting worse as I get older, but could just be that I don't get to play often enough (rather than age). I love both of the Hamers I have, but am not thrilled with the neck on either. I'm thinking I'll just let this one go. The problem of living where I live is that I am hours away from any Hamer dealer (or any players that have even heard of a Hamer) and so I pretty much have to buy before I try - and that can get rather expensive. Thanks for everyone's help (including the PMs).

The neck will definatley be a thin profile neck.

I had a 91 Sunburst few years back ,same thinish profile ,it was ok at lower end but i found it strange that moving up to 12th fret seemed to have same depth as 1st fret and cramping did occur over a gig.

I personally like the mid 90's neck profiles best ,meaty but not cricket bat .

It's a good price and looks to be in very good shape! As the others said, my '91 Sunburst has a wide, shallow neck. Be careful with it. I personally like it, but I can see how others may not. Hope this helps...

From my experience the chunkier necks on doublecuts are from '93 to '96 ... and then back down to the early years '79 to '80

The really new ones are easier because a chunky neck would be identified as "vintage carve"

But then still you never know ... There are really no Hamers here in Santa Barbara either ... I bought my Proto just to see what a Proto was like!

+1, agreed, especially about the Hamer USA mid '90's neck profiles--my fave!

I had two '91 or '92 Hamer Sunburst Customs once (the one in the eBay auction is a Sunburst Standard due to the dotneck), one was '59 Burst and the other was Salmon Blush. Both had the slightly thinner neck over later mid '90's Hamers. OK but not something that compelled me to keep them.

Not me. Thanks to all of the help, I didn't buy what would have been a very pretty but less than workable guitar. I'll regroup with the new understanding of neck sizes. Thanks, everyone! B)

LadyScary: if you don't mind saying what was your max bid? I was watching that and then got caught up in Christmas and a death in the family. Congratulations. Nice score.
