chap Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Not the biggest Vai fan but stumbled upon this pic:http://www.vai.com/Machines/guitarpages/guitar096.htmlCool!
bruce919 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 At HFC 4 or 5. Hamer had its twin there. It was red with the Monkey Grip. On the top side of the grip it had a button that made the LED's in the neck light up. Jol told a story how he was working with Steve on the guitar as a Sig. model, but next thing he knew Ibanez showed up with the JEM.
lincsman Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 What a shame its in Storage we are being robbed here!!!!

Jorge Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 You might be surprised by all the famous names that have purchased from Hamer. At least I was. Several years ago Jol sent me a list, it was really, really impressive.Agian, they all had to buy theirs, so no "signature" models, but a lot of cool names.

Notall show up in the Hamer logs, but a lot do and that's cool to see.
bruce919 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I have seen Niles used two different Phantoms over the years. I have seen Patty use an Artist Mahogany also(watch the Live from NY show)I would think since Springsteen & Co. use Takamine guitars that they gat a good discount on any Kaman gear.

bruce919 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Steve playes a Zulu Phantom in the Glory Days Video.
MCChris Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Steve playes a Zulu Phantom in the Glory Days Video. That ain't a Phantom. It's one of those whacked-out Guilds from the era.Now excuse me while I turn a pistol on myself for knowing so much about a Springsteen video.

I really respect that Hamer doesn't hound these high profile artists and force them to use their gear. (Even though I really wish they kept a good affordable shredder in their current lineup)
Nuclear Wessel Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Actually that's one of the reasons why I really like using Hamer - the brand name hasn't been pigeon-holded into any one artist or style. Someone told me that's what did B C Rich in in the 80's. Pretty boys in hair bands started endorsing them and the serious rockers didn't buy them anymore.(Even though I really wish they kept a good affordable shredder in their current lineup)You mean the USA lineup? Don't they still have some MIK shredders in the lineup?Vai's Chapp is pretty cool.

It was possibly a Gunslinger. There was a B.C. Rich ad in the KISS tour books one year. Class Axe folded about the time Gene Simmons first unveiled the Punisher bass. The stereotype of B.C. Rich in my mind is death metal. All the European death metal bands seem to play B.C. Rich guitars and basses.
bubs_42 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Well what about this one.. http://www.vai.com/Machines/guitarpages/guitar090.html
unfun75 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 If he had owned a set-neck Cali with boomers this forum would have probably imploded.

Don't they still have some MIK shredders in the lineup?Vai's Chapp is pretty cool.Yea very cool, looks like it got really regular use before Ibanez got their hands on the guy. What I mean is a decent Hamer USA super-strat style guitar. I mean solid color, no fancy top, full floater, dot inlays, 24 frets - a work horse. Reasonably priced - < $2000 ... But clearly that's not where the Jol wants to take the company. That's cool I mean, it's just my own personal wishlist.
Feynman Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I'm no Vai fan (or detractor) myself, but if Vai had gotten a sig model Hamer, I doubt that Hamer could have met the production demands for that model alone, much less produce that model and others.I would guess that Vai has enough guitar buying fans that the orders would quickly overrun Hamer's 2-3 guitars/day.Edited to add that they probably couldn't (or at least wouldn't) pay him the kind of money a big production manufacturer can either.
Jorge Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Could you post or PM me the list? Thanks... Sorry, I'm afraid not, this was probably in 1998, many many computers ago. I wish I had kept it, that was very cool.
serial Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I would guess that Vai has enough guitar buying fans that the orders would quickly overrun Hamer's 2-3 guitars/day.In the 80s, they made a lot more than 2-3 a day...Edited to add that they probably couldn't (or at least wouldn't) pay him the kind of money a big production manufacturer can either.I believe this is 100% correct!
silentman Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Ernie Ball couldn't keep up with the EVH demand. As Steve mentioned Hamer was cranking out way more guitars in the late 80s than today.
prototype-fan Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 If the guitars on that website represent Vai's complete guitar collection, then I'm a little surprised at how mundane his collection seems. Basically, it looks like a bunch of Ibanez Jems in diffferent colors with a smattering of other brands and models here and there. I guess I was expecting more exoctica (e.g., Zemaitis, Trussart, etc.) or whacked-out off-the-wall items like 60s Ekos. Oh well...
