carfish7 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I'll play. Burny and Ibanez pointies. The Ibanez was both "mint" and "pristine". My former Hamers, all of which have moved on to HFC'ers (including the FM Special that Brooks susequently altered, and actually seems to play!). I like 'em red. And a few more. Hello. My name is Chris, and I'm Guitarded. CJ
mc2 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Jon:I'll have to check the Serial on your Frost Blue FBVII - I had one of those from that run in '91. One of those guitars I always wanted and that I've always regretted selling!Jon - are you sure about that finish? That '91/'92 run was only done in Frost Blue, per my dealer and the lit that came with it (I bought it new off the rack). Mine started to yellow uniformly within 2-3 years, but the only other color run I recall them doing back then was a similar-sized run in Heather Poly w/Nickel parts - they never completed that second one.Really cool guitars, no matter what!Chris....Hmmmmm. You had me wondering, so I went and doublechecked. It's DEFINITELY from the same year run. I even still have the photo and SN# from the twin that I missed years back that was ONE digit away from mine that the dealer (Twelve Fret up in Toronto) advertised/emailed as a Kerry Green '91. I'd never taken mine apart, so I just pulled the electronics cover to check the color...it's a little lighter but still looks more like Kerry Green than Frost Blue...but maybe they did the run as an "aged" Frost Blue/yellowed clear, so it would look more green even under the cover maybe?Under the elec cover it looks closer to my Les Paul that's with it in that photo and has a 2003 serial number, so not as aged.So....if that Frost Blue 1991 run stoy is "gospel," then maybe mine really is Frost Blue and twelve Fret and the former owner of mine are both mistaken. I really don't know and was just going by what both had told me. None of the original Gibson Custom Shop papers in the case specify the color.
formula73 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I've wanted one of those for AGES. Hell, I'd even settle for a crappy epi version of it.
mc2 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I've wanted one of those for AGES. Hell, I'd even settle for a crappy epi version of it. They only made a couple of black ones! Mine came from an old Gib Kalamazoo employee/luthier who had it custom made and did the mods at the factory for himself. I LOVE Les Paul Sigs.
Hackubus Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Here's my most recent acquisition: 1987 Gibson SG Elite during the pickup swap. The original Spotlight pickups that were in there were pretty anemic and were frightened by my JCM 800, so I pulled em & replaced them with a '57 Classic & a Timbucker in the bridge. I got lucky and happened to have a pair of gold covers lying in my parts bin. I removed the TP6 & installed a new gold tailpiece in it's place to help bling it up a bit. I also took the ghastly locking nut & half sized TRC off, and installed a proper "Les Paul" script truss rod cover on it. My next project is to remove the coil tap switch, install a dummy pot and the correct looking tone knob. Currently, it's wired with one tone control. Before After Before After An old pic of my P90 stable: Only the '57 LP & the '62 SG/LP Juniors remain. I do miss the French's Mustard TV Yellow Special a bit though. That one was the closest I've come to having a Number One guitar. But when ya compared it to the '57, it was clear that the old wood had it all over that ugly lil sumbitch.

None of the original Gibson Custom Shop papers in the case specify the color.I actually spoke to the guy at 12th Fret about that one too! The one I had was pretty close in serial number too, but not consecutive. Another HFC'er had one that was the one either just before or just after mine. Missed that one by a nose on eBay...
veatch Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I've wanted one of those for AGES. Hell, I'd even settle for a crappy epi version of it. +1 I've found 3 goldtop sigs for sale in years past, but unfortunately one had a completely torqued up neck (twisted), and the other two just sounded dead. I LOVE that look, and would like to find a keeper someday. Definitely looks better in black. What is that between the bridge and tailpiece?

I'm sure glad to know that I'm not the only nutjob that loves Les Paul Signatures...I had two early mahogany necked goldtops and I'd just about give my left nut for one now Come to think of it, I've had all the kids I need to so I guess I would give it...but I'd have to add lots of cash

That's one of those old Gibson Kalamazoo "Custom Made" factory plaques that they used to put on custom orders. I don't know what years they used them (not sure if they used them as late as the 70s) but this guy had one put on at the factory since he worked there. I have one on an early 60s Gibson doubleneck.
custom53 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Need to update pictures soon. These are some I still have and some I don't have anymore. Got this one to replace an old 70s Les Paul Custom I had. Bought this one just because of Queen/Brian May Bought this because of the Beatles Will never get rid of this one Bought new in 1975 Just sold this one at the Columbus Guitar Show What a sound this had Bought this new in '81. It goes to my oldest daughter born the same year. Wish I had taken more pictures of the ones that got away...
serial Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009
Looks like yellowed frost blue to me as well. Might be the pic, but it sure looks that way by the raised centerline. Here's kerry green: I'd put my money on frost blue. The one with the broken/repaired headstock was frost blue. You could tell near the repair area. The frost/sonic blues (Gibson/Fender) look more "grey" than the "Crest toothpaste" that Kerry Green has.
Armitage Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 The rest of my USA Dean Time Capsules; Two of the only 25 made Water Vs; My Early 80's USA Deans; My ESPs, including Michael Schenker and Kirk Hammett Signature Models, and a few Ibanez including a '76 Lawsuit Explorer; My Music Man, a couple USA Jackson Soloists, my Strat, Doubleneck, and a couple of my Les Pauls and an SG; Not my picture OK, I was a KiSS Fan..... Here's my 70's Lado Falcon and my 5 and 6 string F-Bass
bubs_42 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Great guitars guy's. This is the Only Non-Hamer that I currently own. I have had it for about 10 Years which is probly the longest i've ever owned a guitar. 1981 Gibson "The V", "FMT" Antique Burst, 3pc Maple Neck, Ebony Fretboard, Mahogany Back. Seymour Duncans.
Triver Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 /albums/uu315/Triverhills/100_1628.jpg[/img] It might take me awhile to get the hang /albums/uu315/Triverhills/100_1646.jpgof th/100_1634.jpgis...
chap Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Well, that does it for me. I had some pics of my Hamers for this thread but I'm too ashamed to post them! If my Hamers were tickets they'd be in the nose-bleeder section. Oh well, I like them.
Armitage Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 It's not a contest, let us enjoy what you've got!
cmatthes Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 That was my first Hamer - bought it from Sam Moss Guitars in Winston-Salem, NC in '84. It's had a few changes since I owned it - at least two different Floyds (including a non-fine tuner, original version), but that's the one! Loved that Ferrari Red finish.

Well....I guess that explains why I was wondering how it had aged to that "gangerine" shade So, that raises the question of "what SHOULD an aged Gibson Kerry Green actually look like?" Got any pics of one?

The basses are really hard to come by, maybe because (I think) they were the only longscale hollowbodies Gibson made. I've only seen three basses in bursts over the last 10 years or so. The backs and necks are also bursted, unlike the goldtops that just have the natural wood clear-coated on the back.
formula73 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Hell, I think they even look great as Goldtops, but I'd prefer a set of regular buckers...they ever do any RIs of those?
chap Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Alright, here are my nose-bleeder-seat Hamers ... I've never owned a guitar worth more than $1G, that's CDN! First Hamer, the one that got me addicted The Ebayers (anyone know if those are original knobs on that vintage yellow one?) Two newest additions So I was feeling pretty adequate until I got onto this message forum and saw what other people have. Now I'm just depressed and ready to throw everything out the door ... quit playing altogether. Maybe start collecting stamps and stay off the forums
atquinn Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 So how'd you come up with that username then? Nice collection! -Austin
serial Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 So, that raises the question of "what SHOULD an aged Gibson Kerry Green actually look like?" Got any pics of one? They look even more "green". When the nitro clearcoat yellows, it turns the blue a more subtle "green" and the green gets greener/darker. Speaking of green, here are a couple of (Ferrari) reds:
