JohnnyB Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Hey, I played out last night! We played here on short notice for the 7-8:30 pm slot. There may have been about a dozen paying audience members, but I got some much-needed validation. Several of the audience members are friends of the band leader and have followed him from show to show over the last 2-3 years. Last night three or four of them (that's 1/3 of the audience!) approached me and said: 1) I sounded really good up there and 2) It was the tightest and most buttoned down they'd ever heard the band. Since I'm the only personnel change in the last year & a half, I'll take 'em both as compliments. Of course, a lot of it has to do with the leader relentlessly drilling us on changes and stops, but I'm sure he drilled the previous bassists that way too. Sorry no pics; I'll take my point'n'shoot to the next one and see if the leader's wife or one of his friends can snap a few. Also, the G&L ASAT semihollow fretless bass into the Eden Nemesis 2x10 (plus my Zaolla Silverline instrument cable) RAWKS! Although I've played live many many times, this is only the third time I've played bass publicly, so getting the bass blend, the instrument and amp settings, and the vibe in a performance venue (where it's often hard to hear each other) is new to me at age 56.
tommy p Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Playing tonight at SJ's Lakeside Tavern in Richmond, VA. We play again 7/2 and then once a month for the rest of the year. I'm having a hell of a time getting other gigs though. Isn't Dave moving to VA? If so, where?
Stevieconlon Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 TNT-Chicago (my ACDC tribute band) playing tonight at Tailgaters in Bolingbrook, IL--1 hour set w/approx. 10 pm start
serial Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Love the shirt, Brooks! Was out last night with Forever Strange at Chicks. Was pretty cool, we were asked last minute to fill in, so we only had about a dozen of our crowd there, but the crowd got steadily heavier after we started and by the end of the night, it was packed (usually thins out around 12:45 or so). Turns out two couples that were there dug us and started texting all of their friends to come check us out. We're back out tonight at the Double K Tavern in Harrisburg. I'm a bit sore right now, but I'll have Advil for lunch too, so it should be big fun tonight.
dewey finn Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Playing with my old band on the third of July. Filling in for my replacement. Looking forward to it. We allways had a great time.
Jeff R Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 TTL played at Daiquiris 'n' Cream in a little town on the Louisiana/Mississippi border last night. Got home as the sun rose. Parts of me ache I didn't know I had, but a fun show. Character of the night: They had this blonde cougar out there last night that was so buck-toothed, I swear she could eat corn on the cob through a keyhole.
tomteriffic Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Most Esteemed Redhead and I (AKA spiny Norman) are being the ad-hoc rhythm section (with no rehearsal) for a friend's trio (Full Circle) at a winery in the middle of nowhere this evening.Next Saturday at our usual haunt, the BRDhouse in Englewood, OH.
HSB0531 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Our first wedding gig. Vintage @ Macari Vineyards, Mattituck, L.I. 6/12/10
sonic1974 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Had what I thought was a great gig the other week, playing opening for two cool bands. Crowd was sparse when we started, started to get packed by the end. Bass player leaves in a huff (he had to make it to his night-job) saying, "man we sucked out there". Long story short, he quit/was asked to leave the band. Now I'm looking for a bass player!
