Victor (Fret Friend) Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 http://cgi.ebay.com/1980s-Hamer-Explorer-J...=item255e29f207Saw this on ebay earlier. Nice...
Carl.B Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 It looks in great shape if it was used live and in the studio. I don't have 2K to spare at the moment or any moment! But I am tempted to email the seller and ask for a better shot of the headstock (front & back) something dosen't look right about the Hamer logo position to me.Is the letter of authenticity is from Hamer or the seller? It all could be very legit but why not put more pic's and info in the ad why make potiental buyer's email questions when most questions could be answered in the ad.

Feynman Posted October 14, 2010 Author Posted October 14, 2010 I hope it runs the course, but I fear it won't.Should be fun while it lasts.
cmatthes Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 The last time that one was on eBay, it didn't hit the reserve at $10k.It's also been for sale for YEARS from a private seller. Not sure if that's the current seller or not. This wasn't something he played live much, if at all, but it was reportedly used on some demo and studio stuff.Certainly a lot more detail on the site where it was listed before. A very cool guitar, owned by one of my all-time favorite players, but I think it'll be REALLY expensive if it actually sells.
specialk Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 For the dough they're asking, a few more photos would've been nice.

Totally agree with your sentiment here. Some ebay ads are not written with the buyer in mind. Here's one of my ads (not as funny as Feynmans lol) ebay - for the sake of 10 minutes coding (notepad) & uploading pics to Botophuket, it's gotta be worth it right?
cmatthes Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 The letter of authenticity would likely be signed by Peggy Sue. She's the one person who could legitimately validate that in my mind.Hamer wouldn't sign an authentication for something like that. They might be able to tell if that guitar (by serial number) was logged in for Honeyman-Scott, but it would have to have been in the artist log or there would have had to be some sort of indication in the serial books showing it was made for him. I don't recall seeing it in either place, but I'll defer to Serial on that one...
Carl.B Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Vic I wish more ad's were like your's or Feynmans
Jim Browne Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Very cool. He's one of my earliest guitar heroes.I remember when Maverick Music had several of his guitars for sale, a few years ago. It'd be nice if there was a site with clear photos of all James' guitars (he certainly had some G.A.S.). The seller is noted collector Perry Margouleff. This one is small potatoes, compared to what he usually deals with (especially when procuring 'Bursts for mega-'Burst collector, billionaire Dirk Ziff- I can't believe that's a real name, but then... look at my sad monicker).

Hamerica Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 The letter is from Peggy Sue. I met her at the Arlington Guitar show some years back when Maverick Music had the Standard and the White Prototype both for sale. I had her get in touch with a certain Hamer collector (whom I thought if anyone could make the purchase work) but a deal at that time was not made. Both guitars went to another dealer and both didn't sell. The Standard went on ebay then went to an auction house. If memory serves me correct both prices were around 10K with no sale. This collector obviously struck to obtain the Standard.I think the White Prototype is still Peggy Sue. That would be the ultimate Hamer/Pretender acquisition. Good luck to all of those that are interested in the Standard. Hamerica The letter of authenticity would likely be signed by Peggy Sue. dobieboy Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Great guitar..should be very interesting to if it sells, what the price is
Carl.B Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I learn more Hamer history here and other cool tidbits, thanks all.
cmatthes Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I think Perry and Maverick were brokers on those guitars - I think she still owns (at least last time around she still owned) those instruments.
mathman Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 If I only had a bank....LOve to have that and especially his prototype. Out of my league though.
bubs_42 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I'm bringing my Proto to Chicago. Gotta Love Them!
